[ClutchFans] ESPN’s Jonathan Givony says a new GM could turn the #Rockets around quickly by firing the coach and getting rid of Kevin Porter Jr. “Just cut him. That’s it.” He hears awful things about the Houston locker room and culture. People *on the team* have told him, “We are a mess.”

  1. I didn’t hear anything recently about r/KPJ being awful in the locker room and culture. Also he has matured so much and could be utilized to his strengths better while being on a relatively risk-free contract to the organization…

I’m so sick of this team constantly getting shit on by media. We’re as bad as San Antonio and Charlotte. Why aren’t they constantly in the news? Windy says he feels bad for Silas and he’s a good man. Boo hoo poor Silas. Should have been a better coach. And I can’t understand why everyone wants the rockets to cut KPJ. He’s a good player on a good contract, there’s gotta be a way to make it work. And he hasn’t even played in like 2 months. Why don’t we get the benefit of the doubt?

Edit: Im not happy either, I barely watch games these days but the national media attention seems disproportionate to me. Especially considering people seem to be sympathetic to Silas. Isn’t he part of the problem?

Who is Jonathan Givony? Is EG telling him the story?

I think the other parts of the pod that were on the Rockets was actually much more interesting, including Lowe being VERY high on Sengun as an undeniably good NBA player, and as the best prospect we have for us to play through and build around, and how he doesn’t understand why we don’t play through him more. Lowe also loves Eason, believes the Jabari is a bust stuff is overblown, and thinks Green has gotten worse on D and hasn’t improved much overall, but is still a good prospect to be part of the rebuild. Lowe says our org right now is widely viewed as a complete circus and mess around the entire league, but that our team has so much talent and resources to improve, that he still thinks we’re in a relatively good place , assuming we can just…ya know, not be a complete train wreck going forward.

And Lowe disagreed with Givoney on KPJ. Lowe just thinks KPJ needs to dribble less so that he can get more spot up threes — so, across the board, it was a great pod of Lowe speaking facts.

I think the media and “analyst” have figured out just constant slander of rockets gets tons of interaction and attention= money for them. Ignore

  6. IronicHours

Let Givony cook get KPJ and Silas outta here!

  7. DemecoMakesMeFreako

A new coach and GM would be AMAZING

  8. I mean you can say what will about the culture but who *on the team* is talking to a draft guy like that?

  9. TruthSayerFu

Is kpj that bad? I thought he got better

  10. Relevant_Rev

As well all know ESPNs coverage is consistently founded in fact and not at all biased in order to generate maximum clicks

  11. lol KPJ ain’t played for a month and he still gets blamed also why would you cut the third best player on our a team

  12. andresigora

Get rid of Silas. It’s not Rocket science (pun intended)

Something weird is going on in the national media… they seem to have a hard hate for Houston sports teams …

Aside from KPJ’s issues in CLE and that one time where he walked out at HT, I haven’t heard any issues with KPJ. Unless he is a locker room cancer and I don’t see how that could be the case, I don’t see any reason to cut him now. Now, if Harden comes in the summer and they draft Scoot, then I would consider trading him. Especially because I am not sure that he would be willing to take a bench role like that. It’s all situational. I do think some of the other things he said about Silas and Stone are more accurate. Bringing in a new GM and coach would do wonders for the narrative of the team. Kind of like how the Texans just hired Demeco Ryan’s who was seen as the number one candidate on the market this offseason. The Texans are now no longer the laughingstock of the league. They are on an upward trajectory, that could be the Rockets this offseason.

We heard nothing but good things from KPJ teammates and coaching staff. Maybe they are just covering things up about KPJ. But if ESPN just want to poke at KPJ because of his previous mistake then that’s just sad to see. All I seen is that he has matured as a person and a player, his temper is much controlled as compared to before and it’s very obvious.

I don’t think the franchise wants to turn it around this year. This season is all about tanking. It’s about gambling the Rockets get Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson, but mostly Wembanyama. Rockets weren’t going to be good this year anyways and they knew it. None of the current young talent are the type that would transform your team. It sucks they’re wasting a year of their career being on a crap team, but I don’t blame the franchise for this path
Wembanyama and Henderson are two of the best prospects to come along in years and if you get one of them then you can start your rebuild. There are no other super prospects in the near future and even if there were the Rockets owe their next few draft picks to OKC..
Gamble this year on the draft, hope the ping pong balls bounce your way. If they do, or even if they don’t, you start the rebuild for real next season.

*Yawn* – news is slow today. If he wants to do a deep dive into our future and our situation he’ll see it makes a lot more sense and we’re pretty much stuck until the offseason. These people will have nothing new to say until then.

The games we have left, as well as adding a top 5 pick and reducing the incentive to tank, will reveal who the real targets are to cut (staff included). Anything before that will make qualified people in the league raise an eyebrow at a knee jerk reaction.

Just like people are trying to brew trouble in OKC with Shai, no team is ever safe from the media y’all.

  18. CJ4ROCKET

Why would you cut a young guy with potential on one of the most team friendly contracts in the league 😭 hell trading him for a SRP is better than that. Hard to take this guy seriously tbh.

  19. soonerman32

Lol at cutting KPJ. He’s obviously overpaid but cutting has no upside.
The culture will change when we get better. Team is terrible right now

  20. I love when guys like Givony and Hollinger pontificate about what teams should be doing. Memphis brought in Hollinger as they declined from the Grit and Grind days. They got rid of him and ascended from there.
The media “experts” are in media for reasons. There certainly are substandard executives and coaches in the league, but they tend to have more information and better answers than the media people telling them what they should do.

  21. Holy crap. Lowe talked about us this much? Must be the slower part of the season.

  22. medical_cat

Givony also says of the bad teams agents like San Antonio and want to avoid the others. Why are we bending over backwards to please players and buying out everybody just for agents to hate us anyway?

  23. I can understand the view point of people who wanna trade KPJ, I get it, but saying “just cut him” is some absolute smooth brain shit. I refuse to believe we cant at least get even a meager return on KPJ through trade.

Really just comes off as this dude hating cause he wants to without evaluating the actual talent of the player he’s talking about.
