Do The Detroit Pistons Have The Best Situation Of All Teams At The Top Of The NBA Lottery?

Zach Lowe recently published an episode of The Lowe Post where he and Jonathon Givony spoke about the four teams at the top of the NBA Lottery and how they’re positioned for the future. Where would you rank the Detroit Pistons situation versus the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Charlotte Hornets? Where does Detroit have the advantages and where do they fall behind the other teams?

  1. I still wish we could get Miles Bridges but even if he somehow avoids a prison sentence what a freaking risk! That’s like running across a street at its busiest time and hoping you don’t get hit.

  2. Can't wait to hear you talk about the ROY running and how they will change the criteria back to what it always was. Last year it was about winning. So with Indiana have a more wins shouldn't Bennedict Mathurin win the award? 🤔

  3. I'm so excited for our future. Even if we end up with the 3rd pick I'm confident we will finally have a winning team.

  4. The thing about it is we talk assets but how many of those draft picks actually do enough to move a team, Marvin Bagley and James Wiseman we’re once considered high assets but yet we have them now further in there development. Sadiq Bey, Isaiah Steward, Killian Hayes that year was considered plenty of assets but Bey is gone and I honestly don’t think Steward or Killian will be apart of the long term plans. My point is let’s not get to deep into about trading players like Bojan for some developmental players at best. We have enough projects from within to not believe we are still ahead of all those teams. Cade, Duran, and Ivey is the equivalent of striking gold in 3 drafts, this years draft pick should give Us enough rebuilding players, time to develop from within and sign another scoring Wing and stretch 4 and we can roll with that. It may be time for a coaching change also. RJ Hampton is another project so we’re basically giving high picks and developmental players a chance to play who was once high on draft boards. The pistons are good, you might have 2 or 3 potential superstars in the draft, 3 or 4 good all-stars, 10 to 15 good role players and the rest will bounce around, some in D league, some out the league completely.

  5. I listened to it and agreed with it. I said they were one of the first podcasts to finally get what have. Detroit have the best young core. Yes they lack assets in the future. Also remember they said the fit for Wembanyama. We don't need to move Bogdanovic if we get Wembanyama. We just need to develop the players we have. A starting lineup of Cade, Ivey, Wembanyama, Wiseman and Duren would be able to finish in the top six in the east. A solid free agent, Killian, Burks, Bogdanovic, Stewart Livers and Bagley would be one of the best bench in the league. Plus we could bring over Procida. Houston can't match what we have. The pick we owe the Knicks won't matter if make the playoffs 1-18 protected. Where would a late first rounder fit in 24-25 with the team we have. And at that point we are winning so we could get a top free agent. One of the reason I've been upset with you and a lot local podcasts is when you guys get mad at the team losing when the young core was getting playing time. I want to have the best odds at Wembanyama. We need to look at the big picture. We haven't had a healthy team all year. If Wembanyama is here and assets we have we could be a damn good team. Please stop dumping on Killian. We don't need Burks starting. We shouldn't be trying to win. Actually in the podcast they suggested shutting down Bogdanovic and Ivey. I hope they shut Duren down too. He is hurt. Wiseman, Bagley, Livers and Hampton need playing time. I read somewhere that we have 11 first round picks on the team if we can develop that talent maybe we can trade some and get some more picks. Also people keep dumping on Casey, look at the big picture with him. Coach of the year in Toronto, came here to that sorry team to the playoffs. Rebuild started. Killian was the 7th pick but it was stated that he was going to be a project. Stewart and Bey were mid to late first rounder. Stewart could be a solid bench player on a good team. Bey turn into a Wiseman a #2 that has high potential upside. Year 2. Cade is a franchise player that got hurt in year two. Year 3 Ivey is having a good rookie season, yes defense needs improvement but it was said most rookie have a hard time defensively. Duren has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with. So we can't say there isn't player development. Bagley came in player good with a healthy Cade. He has been hurt most of this year. So we have never seen Casey coach with all this talent and healthy. Yes if there is a top coach out there and we can get him sure go get him but if there isn't give Casey a chance.

  6. I would say if Rockets get Wemby (which I genuinely think the NBA will not allow) and a no nonsense coach, they might have the best situation. But that’s if those guys are ready to mature and win. Only one on there team trying to hoop is Segun. So here to praying it’s either us or San Antonio that gets him.

  7. Pistons are in a good position… They have a bona fide #1…

    But best? Meh…
    I'd probably rather be in Orlando's situation…
But it isn't that big of a gap…

  8. I agree with everything you said except the part about Scoot. I'm in the camp of drafting Brandon Miller over Scoot only for the Pistons. Drafting a guard 4 years in a row is just bad asset management. Adding Scoot takes the ball out of Cade's hands and takes his size advantage away at the PG position. I don't see Cade excelling at the wing position. It's not just about fit either. Miller is a top prospect in his own right plus he adds everything that Detroit needs shot creation, long athletic (6'9 wing), rebounds well, and brings elite 3pt shooting off the dribble, spot up, and catching. Dropped 41 the other night on high efficiency. I'd rather see Detroit trade down to 3 if they get 2 to pick up an asset and draft Brandon Miller. I love Scoot as a prospect but he doesn't shoot well yet and as I said their are major issues if you add him to the Pistons that could cause both Ivey and Cade to regress. Not high on that at all. It's not always about just adding talent as you've said Detroit has to put a squad on the floor that makes good basketball sense. How does adding Scoot make good basketball sense?

  9. Also on the Raptors game you focused on the underwelming offense but despite all of that Detroit still had a chance to win both games even with the TOs and the bad shooting. The Pistons D which you complain about routinely is slightly better. Just wanted to point that out.

  10. At this stage Lamelo is still a better player then Cade and he as well as Cade will for sure become a superstar’s!

Charolette and San Antonio just started tanking this year. We’ve been at it the longest.

Houston needs a new front office and coach.

Can’t wait until we move on from Bagley so we can focus on Wiseman and Duren!

We need to regulate Bojan to being a spot up/ movement shooter (similar to Klay), I hate watching him go iso he’s too old and slow.

100% agree start Livers. Move Hayes to the bench he still has major holes in his game for a starting guard.

Overall extremely happy we lost 😁!

Btw Bey’s been balling in ATL I think he fits what they’re trying to do well.

  11. Pistons will hit helping their team the best if they hit 1 or 3. Whemby or Miller are exactly what this team needs. Rockets honestly are right there with the Pistons and their best hit would be scoot. Having a true pg to lead that team.

  12. Let’s talk some positives Ku, Pistons have played much more competitive and the defensive looked so much better in the past few games.

  13. Cheer up @kukahilNBA, MARVIN BAGLEY 21 & 18! Check the wealth of talented bigs we're developing. If we can flip Bogey into a Tayshon Princeish type, who can also shoot at least 35% from 3, with a healthy Cade? OH BOY!

  14. It was a great podcast. I feel he was spot on. They were correct that Houston is a great location but the team is environment is a mess.

  15. Charlotte is a much better team than Detroit. They have 3 proven players. Detroit does not. Cade has to stay healthy. Lamelo, Rozier, Oubre.

Charlotte had a winning season last year.

Wed be happy if Cade becomes Lamello. Cade is not proven yet until he can stay healthy. No1 on our team is. Cade is a future star, Lamelo is already a star. Id take Rozier over any1 on our team. Everything else is Pistons fandom hype.

Detroit has been tanking forever. San Antonio has not and has a star Coach which we dont have. Pop has done wonders consistently without star players.

I think its being bias. Until Detroit turns it around, we cant keep acting like we go turn it around the next year until we do. Its been years bro.

  16. I feel like when we have Bogey coming off the bench, it means we are starting to form a decent team. The best teams in the league not only have a solid starting 5, but decent players who would start on bad teams coming off the bench.
I'm confident we will do well in the draft regardless and we have decent cap space. I really hope we can bring Jerami Grant back.

  17. I think beef stew can be something like a PJ tucker. so many teams could use a PJ Tucker. Love the take that he can be a valuable/flexible bench guy!

  18. Some people trust others just becuz. Weaver has not earned my trust. He makes a lot of questionable moves that they never recover from. Rose Kennard Brown Wood Grant Bey represents over 80ppgs that we gave up to get nothing in return.

How long before people realize that Weaver has slowly destroyed this team. Any GM picks Cade, IV is a questionable pick seeing he doesn't have a true NBA skill, he has pro speed but is that a skill? Duren plays good but is 6'10. Kessler is 7'1 then we wouldn't of needed weak Wiseman that we gave up 15ppgs to get. We're going backwards. Maybe by Ku being so young he's still a little naive.

  19. FYI, I enjoyed the Raptors game… Both teams took it seriously… Both teams played hard… Both teams played some defense… It was something I haven't seen in a Pistons' game in several years…
