I doubt they'd have gotten Sheed if Melo was taken. Because what would've likely happened is that Billups as PG, Rip as SG, Melo as the 3, Prince as the 4 (because he's basically the do it all, ala Bosh, James, AK47 type of player) and then Ben at the 5. You can even switch Melo and Prince from the 3 to 4.
They'd have a quick small ball lineup ala the Suns or the Warriors. The defense may have sucked, but the firepower would be great.
But if they did eventually get Sheed, then they can put Melo or Prince as the 6th man. Melo would've done great as the 6th because he'd give them firepower from off the bench and he'd be running that squad in prep for his eventual team once the other guys retire or gets too old.
Bron was gonna takeover regardless he beat all of them besides melo by himself 😂

Even if he would have been at odds with Larry Brown like many reports have stated, that team had organizational structure within the players like Chauncey, Rip, Ben, Tayshaun, Darvin Ham, like Melo would have had real guidance rather than what he had with George Karl who has had beef literally everywhere he coached.
