[Grant Afseth tweet] Grant asked post-game about “fit”, and we get an interesting answer from Kyrie about “coming in and not having a team-first mentality.” Seems to be calling out Wood.

yeesh, I can see what he means tho. CWOOD has to buy in even if he knows he’s gone this off-season. Other teams can see and tell that when you’ve been on 7 teams in 7 years, it’s gotta be a problem with the common denominator

Ironically, Kyrie has brought some needed maturity and leadership to this team on the court.

Multiple times yesterday while setting a pick for Kyrie instead of setting a good screen he set a soft screen and set himself up for the pass.

Keep hating on Dwight Powell but atleast Dwight plays team ball and makes rotations

Some of you see a three pointer and get beer goggles

Wood bought in when he was rightfully starting. He was actually rebounding and playing good defense as a starter. Now, after unjustly having his starting spot stolen from him from bumass Powell who does LITERALLY NOTHING on the court, Wood is pouting. I don’t blame him tbh, being as skilled as Wood, and watching a guy as trash as Powell start over you must make him pretty pissed.

Wood plays the entire game like he doesn’t know the score.

Every possession he’s constantly thinking about how to get a touch, even when setting screens

  6. There was one possesion yesterday when Wood had a missmatch against a smaller defender and didn’t know what to do. He just stood there and everyone was telling him to attack the missmatch. He did and got fouled I think.

I don’t think he’s intentionally chasing his own stats, I think he just doesn’t know what is the right play most of the time. He never played on a well organised winning team. Just look at how the Rockets are playing this year, everyone just doing what he wants. Most of his career he’s been in a teams like that.

Wood showed glimpses yesterday of how great he could be. Then you see him let up when he has not touched the ball. He can be a black hole… ball goes to him and never comes back out. I really hope he clicks soon. He has the skills to be part of a big 3

  8. Mavs are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Dwight simply gets played off the floor repeatedly and Wood is proving repeatedly why he is a journeyman despite being a 20 ppg scorer in his sleep.

  9. StormTheTrooper

Kyrie about to become Public Enemy n.1 now. No one slanders Christian “literally Wilt Chamberlain” Wood at r/mavericks and live to tell the tale.

Or luka, he played selfish and cost the game like he did vs okc

Luka stans reply instead of downvote, u kno its true 🤡

  11. MastaMayne

Kyrie honestly might be one of the only people I trust on the court and chemistry-wise on this team as a leader. Luka can learn a bit from him I think in that sense

  12. PapasWill

I really don’t see what’s so great in wood. There’s a reason he’s been on like 7 teams.

  13. Watch any game and it’s obvious that Wood has a “me first” mentality. Terrible with defensive rotations and the ball stops moving offensively once he gets it. He isn’t a team player which is why he has no trade value

  14. LogansGambit

This could’ve just as easily and maybe more appropriately been calling calling out Tim Hardaway. At least Wood waits until he’s actually open to chuck up a 3. This sub wants to hate Wood so bad and not hold others accountable.

Say what ever you want to say about Kyrie he has been outstanding

  16. HuddMuffing

Wood is honestly just taller Hardy, they both have blinders for anything that’s not a bucket

  17. naffhouse

I’m going to burn sage in my living room every game going forward

Honestly I think Christian Wood would be a better fit for the Spurs and I think that’s where he’ll go in the offseason. I could see someone like Pop taking a chance on him and convincing Wood to buy into his system.

I love Kyrie as a Maverick though. I wasn’t expecting this kind of leadership from him but it’s definitely well received. I really hope he re-signs next season.

  19. samuel_el_jackson

Maybe this gets through Wood. Kyrie is a respected voice among players and even if Wood wants to leave in the off season, if he doesn’t show up for his teammates will severely limit his options. His reputation is already iffy, he has to do better even if just for himself.

It’s good to see the Kyrie stan children have found a new home.

“Kyrie is so great, isn’t he? So smart! So mature! All that other stuff that happened on all of his other teams — that was someone else’s fault!”

The Mavs are now 2-5 with Kyrie and Luca, right? Does anyone older than 16 think they are going to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs — if they make the playoffs?

My deepest sympathies to pre-existing Mavs fans. The good news is that Cuban is too smart to give this bozo a long-term deal, and you only have another 17 games until he’s gone for good.

Funny how no one mentioned the playing at a high pace part…
