Kyrie and Luka went down the the wire against Lauri and the Salt Lake 3rd Ward

Lauri is that guy. Also weā€™re down at 8th draft position

If we were trying to make the playoffs, I’d be mad, however since we are tanking, I’m happy we lost

I’m glad Talented bricked the free throw to help us tank

Fun game but the Mavs announcers were the real MVP. Throwing in the Fletch reference during the 4q review was icing on the cake. Rough loss. Go Jazz.

    Edit:typo

    GAME NOTES:

What a game. I didn’t expect it to be so close, credit to Lauri for being insane and THT for having one of his best games in a jazz uniform

I do want to give credit to our second quarter unit of Dunn-Agbaji-Juzang-Olynyk-Jones. They were down by about 12, and the defensive intensity they provided was enough to spark a comeback. Dunn was ripping the ball away, everybody had active hands, and made it really tough on Luka and Irving that second quarter.

I also want to give props to Rudy Gay. I’m a known Rudy Gay hater, but this was one of his most complete games he’s had with us. He only scored 2 points the last 3 quarters, but besides scoring, he was doing hustle plays on defense, passing the ball, and getting some rebounds and tipped balls.

Kris Dunn played a great game too. 11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists while going 4-8 from the field. He was only credited for 1 steal, but his defensive intensity was great. I think his approach to defense is contagious, this is the best we’ve looked defensively (in terms of active hands and disrupting plays) since the early part of the season. I don’t know his future with us, but hopefully his energy is contagious and sticks with our core guys

No Kessler tonight, but all of our guys stepped up in the rebounding department and we actually outrebounded the Mavs in every way tonight. Nobody shined, but we had 6 players have more than 6 rebounds this game.

Let’s focus on Lauri tonight. He was the clear cut #1 option for us tonight offensively, and Dallas couldn’t stop him. They tried throwing Irving, Doncic, Bullock, Hardaway, and Wood at him, and nothing worked. He was a sniper from 3, and was a beast defensively too getting 2 big steals and a block. He played a great complete game on both ends. It absolutely showed that he could be a #1 option on a contending team. He finished with 33 points, 12-20 shooting, 5-9 from 3, 6 rebounds 2 assists.

THT played a great game too. He had some big boy moves offensively to free up space for him and others. His one dark spot on a great game was 5 turnovers with the majority of those coming early in the game. He had 21 points, 6 rebounds 4 assists tonight with 2 steals and a block. He was looking really good off the pick n roll making the right reads.

Agbaji and Fontecchio both started tonight, and both struggled shooting. 2-11 for Agbaji, 2-8 from Fontechhio. They weren’t able to find the bottom of the net, with Agbaji missing two fairly easy layups in the fourth quarter.

Jones got the backup C nod over Udoka and he looked good. He even hit a 3! Had a perfect 3-3 shooting night to go with 6 rebounds. He looked active on defense and the glass. He’s freaky athletic and it’s always fun to see him on the court.

JTA played 7 minutes in the first half and was part of our defensive unit for a bit in the second quartrer. He had 5 points 4 rebounds, but part of his impact wasn’t measured on the stat sheet. His defense and ability to switch onto most of the team was a big factor in us getting back into it.

Juzang played 14 minutes, and I’m pretty impressed with what I see. He has confidence despite shooting 2-9, and had a steal and a block today. I don’t know his role with us long term, but I’m surprised it took him until now to get significant minutes.

Klynyk played alright, his ability to get to the line is great. Even though he is a major foul-baiter, ref’s still call out so why would he stop? He also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He also only fouled twice which is an improvement.

Overall I think a perfect game for what we wanted to do. It was a lot closer than we thought it would be, Lauri popped off, THT is developing, and this loss puts us most likely to get the 8th pick in the draft. Everybody who saw minutes scored today, and it was a fun one to watch despite losing. We passed the ball around getting everybody included, made the extra pass, and looked active defensively which is something we’ve struggled with all season.

Our fourth quarter defense did need to be tighter on Irving, but our scheme seemed to be working. From my perspective, it seemed like we would double one of Luka/Kyrie, and make proper rotations to catch Dallas making mistakes. I think it worked mostly, Luka had 6 turnovers himself tonight to just 6 assists, but Tim Hardaway punished us tonight going 7-9 from 3. Besides Luka/Kyrie/Hardaway Jr, our scheme held up in limiting the amount of good looks Kleber, Wood, and Green got.

31-35 bitches. The tank is on!!! Lauri-Wemby-Kessler coming to you 2023 season

  7. Bobblefighterman

Good show, players played hard, THT reminded everyone what the goal is, young guys getting lots of minutes, refs helped with the tank, still got the L, this team is promising.

  8. StopRevvingYourCar

THT nearly lost control of the tank but he kept his head in the game and stuck to the gameplan

  9. Nils3971

Lauri is the greatest basketball player of ALL TIME, and its not even a discussion.

  10. MegaAltarianite

I don’t know what people are saying about him, but I think THT would be a solid ass player if he worked on his jump shot. It’s easy to know he’s going to drive every time, and he still gets a good amount of points.

Great game for the tank. Lauri legit outplayed Luka this game, this dude is amazing.

Jones and Dunn are both solid, hope they’re still around next year. They’re really valuable pieces off the bench.

Love it or hate it, Talen Horton-Tanker is the way for the rest of this season.

  12. My Tankathon rolls are getting us top 3 pick almost every other roll!! This is awesome!!

After the last 3 Iā€™m happy we lost tonight but Iā€™m frustrated with the officials down the stretch.

Chris Dunnā€™s ā€œfoulā€ shouldnā€™t have been called in a close game under 2 minutes. They legit looked at it for 4 minutes shouldnā€™t have to look that hard and if you do probably shouldnā€™t be called.

Also the foul that the baseline official called to put THT to the line. 1 why did the other officials ignore it? 2 the clock for sure kept running but they didnā€™t look to check how much time had run off.

Nba officiating could be so much better and that would have ruined a fun competitive game.

  14. InNeedOfABetterName

I don’t really get the hate for THT here, I think he played good this game, albeit i only started watching after half-time.

He made some strong drives and made decent point with .50 from the field. Obviously 5 turnovers and a few dumb plays (the free throw lol) but all in all not so bad imo

  15. lopodo777

This is the perfect game for this season. Lauri eats like nobody, Dunn makes the roster, Rudy Gay played well wtf, Olynyk had his moments, Ochai surely will enter his villain arc . And all of this without knowing what we will get in the offseason.

I really want this team to win every game, but I also have to know what we are playing with. 3 very big pieces out and still fought very hard against 8 on the court for them. On to Orlando and maybe we can get back to the winning column

  16. coolguysteve21

Dallas fans canā€™t be too proud of that one. It was essentially Lauri and back ups, with the bench being G-leaguers.

Plus the officiating was silly on both sides near the end that KO dive to get the three was ridiculous then the Kyrie Irving three point foul was also questionable.

Good win for the tank, close enough to keep me engaged but still a loss in the end!

  17. lopodo777

Btw Im gonna give props to Rudy Gay. He played like he was 30 again. Solid defence and made some crucial shots when we were down. If he plays like this I wouldnt mind him getting the minutes

  18. No Kessler & Dok didn’t play at all? Big yikes. Couldn’t be any clearer that his days with the Jazz are numbered

  19. Certain_Strawberry77

No Mavs fan is happy about this game. Shouldnā€™t have been close considering who was playing for both sides but loved how aggressive THT was attacking the paint

  20. Thank goodness the refs couldn’t figure out WHY they called that foul on Kyrie’s 3 attempt.
