Stephen A. on Lamar Jackson: The non-exclusive franchise tag is ‘built in collusion’ | First Take

Stephen A. Smith, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and Kimberley Martin react to the Baltimore Ravens placing Lamar Jackson on a non-exclusive franchise tag, which allows Jackson to negotiate with other teams, but the Ravens have the right to match any offer sheet he signs or take two first-round picks in return for him.

  1. This is the real if the ravens lose Lamar Jackson there going to be a bad football team and lose 80% of there offensive and Eric DeCosta the GM is going to get
fired anyway probably in the next few years searching for a replacement at Quarterback
    and probably the head coach
John Harbaugh when you clean house from your franchise quarterback domino start to fall
everyone gets put under the microscope and people start losing there jobs

  2. Ravens gonna match whatever offer he gets they not fooling anyone they just hope his value is less than what they offered but I hope a team calls there bluff bcuz they want Lamar but don't want to pay him what he wants

  3. Why such regards for this Baltimore franchise man? I don't understand this hype, they live off the ray Lewis teams in the early 2000s. And that other one they won in 2013. Besides that they been pedestrian. Good defenses yes, jets have had good defenses as well. Difference is our qb situation. But they're owners and general management haven't been all world like these pundits like to talk about.

  4. It's not the gm decosta it's the owner. If the owner wants you the gm has no choice but to figure it out and make it work. The gm manages the team and the money. The owner signs the checks. He doesn't want to pay Lamar that type of money. It's like the mob before the Rico everybody took the blame except the boss because he was insulated from the crime. Stop blaming decosta he can't just give the Lamar the owners money without the owner signing off on it

  5. Moral of the story…DONT BE desperate or needy to the point you become dillusional. Im w the Ravens. If they thought he was "generational" we would not be here now! Its simple, he run's too much for their liking PERIOD! why judge BAL, their offer was that of a running QB w high risk of injury, simple!

  6. The owners know the Watson contract is horrible. I would try to reel the market back in too. Plus, Lamar isn't worth over 200mil.

  7. No way I give Lamar what he wants. When people say he deserve it, WHY? After the MVP year has done nothing to ask for top money. FANS pay for these contracts not the owners. seen how much a beer cost?

  8. Why should the Ravens overpay just because the Browns did? And, I like both QBs but c’mon man…

  9. There's a lot of underlying info we don't know before we can make an accurate statement. How much he wants compared to how much they want to pay him. We all know it's about the money. Blame the Browns here, if they don't do what they did, we don't have this discussion and he would've taken something else less because the market is falsely set right now.

  10. Lamar is a great talent. But he's also a very specific type of talent that requires a specific type of team-building around him to succeed and maximize his talents. A lot of teams are hesitant to commit down that path because that playstyle hasn't really won anything in the league, ever. I think Lamar deserves top dollar, but I feel like people are really ignoring the uniqueness of Lamar's game and how that's not always in line with every team's vision of how to design an offense, etc.

  11. If the guaranteed $ is $133/4 or $180/5 then that is a poor offer when Jones is getting 160 in 4, and Kyler is getting $160/5. He's an 26 y/o MVP and they're not. $210/4 with 2 more not guaranteed at 125 seems reasonable.

  12. If Bears get 2 future first rounders for trading down they could maybe afford the cost of signing Lamar and have Justin Fields to trade in a quarterback hungry market

  13. No collusion. Mahomes won a Super Bowl in his second year. Lamar has played 2/3 of the last two seasons, and lost 75% in the playoffs. He needs better players around him, including more quality WRs. That won't happen if the Ravens dump the bank on him. He can win a Super Bowl in Baltimore, but should be ready to accept less guaranteed money.

  14. imo, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert … owners will pay two firsts and a guaranteed contract for them … probably even a bidding war. I don't think Lamar makes that cut, but we'll see.

  15. Lamar needs to stop being so proud because the fact of the matter is that he is not highly intelligent enough to be his own agent. Go get rich Paul bro and he will show you how a true agent will get you everything that you want in contract talks .

  16. I am a Football fan 1st. I think he is entitled to what he is asking. He has given his all out there on the field. That is just my opinion

  17. Of course he’s black 2 straight years nothing go ahead pay him millions see what happens
