[Kyrie Irving] Gambling and sports betting has completely taken the purity and the fun away from the game at times.

> “Gambling and sports betting has completely taken the purity and the fun away from the game at times…There’s a difference between being a diehard fan and supporting your team and loving your team vs somebody that’s betting on a parlay or somebody that wants to hit.”

Kyrie speaks his mind on gambling and sports betting, do you agree?

I don’t care if people want to gamble but I hate that it’s become apart of sports shows, nobody cares about your parlay.

  2. SquimJim

You definitely get angrier fans when they put money on the line

  3. IntraspaceAlien

Gambling can be fun and many can engage with it responsibly but it is also a negative on the aggregate and probably unhealthy for the way fans interact with games/players. I don’t think he’s really wrong.

  4. Kaironvilla

No problem with sports betting but I’ve been seeing it everywhere since lately. The ads are targeting a lot of young people too.

Damn kyrie said something I agree with. Betting in sports is just so shameful…bigger house advantage than the double 00 on the roulette board. I dont get how someone puts that kind of faith in the refs hands

The fact the NBA releases who’s officiating games the day of and not days before says a lot. Since certain referees tend to influence games more than others.

Bro if i gotta see one more Bet 99 commercial i’m going crazy.

Now he’s 100% correct on this.. it’s turned the discourse around the game nasty. Everyone slandering players because they didn’t hit their parlay

  10. He’s right. You can’t watch any game without it being mentioned.

These announcers have basically been forced to become gambling to continue announcing games.

    Edit: gambling shills

as a celtics fan who also hates gambling and the culture behind it, after that Lakers no-call game and fans accusing refs of match fixing, it became so obvious why it used to be illegal. The prevalence of gambling in sports only hurts the integrity of the sport, because you lose faith in officials. I cant even blame Lakers fans because if a bet is just a few taps on an app away, you really dont know who’s doing what and who’s secretly benefiting from it

I mean he’s right. Watching Celtics local games is super annoying lately cause they constantly bring up betting shit and Scal’s same game parlay garbage. Shit should’ve never been legalized.

  13. I know for me personally I’m already very exhausted by everything being about gambling now. I get it’s fun and by all means do what brings you happiness but holy shit gamblers are entering vegan CrossFit territory.

  14. chungus_wungus

I hate how the NBA is pushing sports betting so much.

  15. Yes I agree. Every commercial break is all about betting sites, even during live play, they insert betting odds and it’s so annoying! Even our own (Raptors) broadcasters are talking about parlay blah blah.

  16. Fredbear_

I rarely ever agree with Kyrie, but this is a massive W. Nothing is more annoying than that guy that everyone knows who won’t shut the fuck up about parlays and who they are betting on. I go to NFL watch parties to watch my favourite team, and everyone around me is freaking out cause they need Miles Sanders or something to get 2 more carries.

  17. PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Tbh he’s right about this (don’t say that lightly). I can’t stand all the fucking gambling ads these days.

  18. bringbackthesonics21

It is completely oversaturated already and just getting started

  19. RosaReilly

I really can’t stand gambling. The way its tendrils get everywhere, and the way it extracts money from poor people and problem gamblers are revolting. While I don’t go as far as to think it should be banned, its advertising should be severely deliberalised. It definitely should not be part of any game broadcast.

  20. Tim Donaghy. That is all you need to know. Basketball is under the same laws as professional wrestling! The refs legally can make a game “entertaining.” Entertaining and profitable.

  21. anchorsteamer

Every sport seems to be squeezing as much money as possible out of their product and it’s tiring. Gambling ads with celebrity endorsements are everywhere and heavily promoted by all the leagues. Commercials are being shoehorned into every moment of down time. I almost never agree with Kyrie and it’s maybe a naive or romantic notion, but we are losing the spirit of sports competition with these distractions.

  22. PinocchiosWoodBalls

    Agreed. 100%.

Nothing more annoying than obvious degenerate gambling addicts constantly talking about betting in sports podcasts.

I stopped listening to Bill Simmons because of it.

„Well let’s look at the spread and what does Vegas say.“

    1. fuck Vegas
    2. the bottom was reached when he and Sal argued that NBA players shouldn’t take „useless last second shots“, because it might mess up someone’s spread and „ruins their week“.

BUT THAT WASNT ENOUGH! They were suggesting that somebody from the team on the bench should check those things and tell players to „calm down“ at the end of games.

    Are you fucking kidding me?

I have nothing against people gambling but that’s just pathetic.
