So fucking ridiculous. And people wonder why the MVP debate is so heated

  2. ihorsey10

Meanwhile Jokic is a net negative in the playoffs due to his defense, and Embiid is a huge positive, largely due to defense.

  3. TwiddleMyStick

This has to be a new low for Bill Simmons. Literally searching for ways to throw shade at Embiid when the topic should have nothing to do with him. And people wonder why sixers fans are getting so obnoxious about this

  4. GirlWithGame

Embiid is actually hysterical, he knew what he was doing.

The media is a joke, an actual joke I’ve never commented so much on reddit then these past few days.

Say jokic deserves it this year, but he most certainly shouldn’t have been mvp last year, and they just said f the standards and criteria we used for years, we robbed Harden but nah you get a pass.

I’m just happy Embiid is pretty healthy going in the later part of the season. This team looks very legit this year.

There’s a segment on the Lowe Post pod about why should Jokic’s lack of playoff success count against him and proceeds to go on about Embiid’s failures. I think the point should be that if Jo’s playoff failures DO count against him, which they absolutely do, then they should also count against Jokic. With that said, none of us should give a bleep if Jokic or Giannis win the award; we have a legitimate title contender, the award won’t change that.

  6. MoreHeartThanScars

I hope the Nuggets make it to the Finals just so JoJo can style all over Jokic

The week Embiid cooked Jokic it seemed the narrative might change, but here we are again…

Jokic is efficient af and a phenomenal talent, but Embiid is fucking dominant.

Leading the lead in scoring at 33 per game on 64%TS is some MJ type shit.

    Plus yeah, the defense.
Jokic has been getting hunted more and more the last two weeks in PnR actions which has been delightful to watch.

I love this team so much. We need to get Jo a title this year so he gets the respect he deserves.

In 44 career playoff games, Embiid’s plus minus is +310.

In 48 career playoffs games, Jokic’s plus minus is -32.

I understand the flaws of +- but you can’t tell me the Nuggets win because of Jokic when they lose when he’s on the court and the Sixers lose because of Embiid when they dominate when he’s on the court.

I want Embiid to embrace this. We know he hears the BS.

I mean we all know Kawhi’s 4-bounce shot buzzer beater was Embiid’s fault. Simmons forgetting how to play basketball in the Hawks series was also Embiid’s fault. And obviously him breaking his face and thumb last year was also Embiid’s fault.

Jokic also had the best luck during his conference championship run. Mike Conley had an open look in gm 7 to beat the Nuggets in the first round. Round 2, Jamal Murray turns into Michael Jordan to carry them. Then Jokic gets torched by AD in the conference finals.

Embiid put us in a solid position 3 times to advance to the Conference Finals, he’s just blessed with the worst luck. The fact that the media counts this against him is insane without taking in account the reason we keep losing.

I love when Jo plays with a chip on his shoulder, but I’m afraid of injury if he goes too hard… Fuck it.

  12. WraithTwelve

Zach Lowe wasn’t stuffed inside a locker enough

  13. BearBait_

I honestly have been trying to not care about the MVP but Jokic fans just say insane stuff you cannot ignore sometimes lmfao.

  14. ploopatroopa

i love how he says it doesn’t matter in the mvp debate but has been on the record using it in an mvp debate

  15. dabigchina

But actually, why does he not mention mpj in the paragraph about mpj’s defense.

  16. 177676ers

Zach Lowe absolutely destroys the straw man arguments he creates. I’m sure in the next pod he will say “despite what Philly fans say Jokic IS a better passer than Embiid!!!”

  17. ChronoDragoon

ESPN has rotted some of Lowe’s brain. He was pretty much the perfect analyst when he was at Grantland, mixing eye-test play analysis with advanced stats.

Now he seemingly has a mandate to have the same idiot ESPN talking heads on his pod over and over again, and his time on TV has evaporated his Spock side of being impartial.

…That being said, his pod is sadly still one of the best out there for the general NBA.

  18. bravof1ve

Lowe is embarrassing and if you defend this bozo you are too

  19. jawny-appleseed

glad to see fan sentiment outside of philly and denver seems to be turning against jokic getting a 3rd mvp

  20. Fig_Newton_

Moneyball and its consequences have been disastrous for sports punditry

  21. HisExcellency20

I saw this earlier on r/NBA. But it’s absolutely hilarious that this is supposed to be about MPJ.

  22. Active-Beach-8897

It’s not even that it should be held against him in relevance to embiid, it’s that both should be judged by the same standards

  23. Neat-Confidence5556

some guy pointed out that’s it’s plausible that embiid gets shafted so much because the league makes an exorbitant amount of money from china/chinese viewership. NBA public enemy #1 over there is morey. they banned sixers games over there. the nba doesn’t want to make the MVP of their league a guy who’s associated with morey and a big chunk of their international viewership can’t even watch. I don’t believe it’s true but it’s an interesting theory
