The B/R staff regraded the trade deadline deals and gave Toronto a C šŸ˜¬

“Unfortunately, the Raptors are on the hook for Poeltl’s next deal, which could creep into the range of $20 million per year, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Toronto needs what Poeltl brings, but it may not need it that badly, especially considering the higher-profile free agencies of Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. This Toronto team, which is still under .500 on the year, could get prohibitively expensive in a hurry.

It’s tempting to put an “incomplete” on this report card until we know what it costs the Raps to keep their new (old) big man. At the moment, the mere possibility that Toronto gave up a future first-rounder for either a rental or an overpaid non-stretch, non-switch center is genuinely concerning.”

it depends what we do this summer. what I know is that it benefited Fred with the PnR (his assists been going crazy), but hurt basically all our forwards with the lack of spacing in the paint. Poeltl is a great player though. in a vacuum, he is worth the draft capital.

    Side question:

Are NBA teams limited to only one sign and trade scenario an offseason or…?

  3. jovijovi99

The only way this wasnā€™t an F is if we traded for a superstar in the offseason and this was a move to build around that star. Unless that happens doing nothing at the deadline would have been better for the long-term success of the team.

Oh god 20 mill for Poeltl according to Shams, Fred will want 30+ mill and Trent around 25 mill, they canā€™t possibly pay all 3

All we did was fuck up our draft position and are now going into FA with 3 UFAs instead of 2. Genius move by the FO

Short term: agree with the C

Long term: probably a B. Yes the Raptors gave up draft picks but they also got a good centre who is efficient, can produce on both sides of the floor and doesnā€™t demand the ball. Jakob as the Raptors centre for the next few years makes sense unless they blow it up and tank

I want to defend this so bad but I have nothing

  8. n3moh0es

exactly we bout to overpay for a dude who canā€™t close games. you canā€™t make this shit up

If we donā€™t get a playoff series or get booted out of play in/donā€™t make play in then you have 3 unrestricted agents going into the off season with bad vibes and team chemistry issues that have been reported on all year then a very loosely protected pick next year.

This isnā€™t a young team on the rise. Jak, Siakam, VanVleet, OG are all peaking and itā€™s not effective at all. On paper the team looks great but in motion itā€™s horrible to watch.

Well we certainly got a Center. Only issue is will said Center sign with us and how much are we paying him?

  11. What two would yā€™all pick outta these three: jakob, Trent, vanvleet

It really depends on what our next year looks like

I think if anything, this trade means that we are less likely to resign Gary, who looks good when shooting well but is awful if his shot is not falling. Tanking is not an option as we do not have our 2024 pick and thereā€™s no way we try to be bad only to give up a top 10 pick to the spurs, which also means trading Siakam is off the table

Which means we have to address our other need. Not just more shooters but a point guard that can handle the ball and facilitate and offense well.

How are we going to do that? Personally, I donā€™t know. Might as well sign Kyrie for a multimillion dollar deal if the Mavs season goes poorly. But if anyone gets moved to fill that hole, itā€™s probably OG. I know heā€™s been a stud lately and is great defensively but part of our ball movement issue is that if OG doesnā€™t initially take a catch and shoot 3, who knows where that ball is going. A bad handle and bad vision is only made worse by the lack of both shooters and facilitators on our team, and sometimes it feels like OG just makes the offense worse.

Who knows, maybe next season we start out strong and we can all forget about this season ever happening. Anything can happen, such as the Sacramento kings clicking and becoming a second seed this year

We were barely a play in team before and this trade hasnā€™t moved us up or down. C sounds bang on. Itā€™s average

  14. Nunchuckery

We were the most talked about team before the deadline. There was a ton of potential to move minimal pieces for a great return while also setting us up for this year’s draft.

I like the addition of Jakob, but something big needs to happen in the off season to make this whole puzzle fit together.

The B/R staff are the second least credible bunch of people talking about basketball

I don’t get how the Suns trade is an A

They could legitimately have to pay 200 million over 4 years to a player who could barely play. lost their young wing. And have to send out 4 unprotected picks.

I get it’s a big swing but not an A grade

Masai…what exactly is the plan here?

BR hasnā€™t actually watched Jakob play

Fair rating. It helped a minor issue(rim protection) but worsen a major one(spacing)

B+ if we sold Trent, FVV, and Pascal for whatever the hell we can get.
