[Lewenberg] Few rotation notes. Nurse referred to Barton as the backup PG. He also talked about getting the struggling Achiuwa going; doesn’t think that C is his optimal position/wants to get him more time as a wing (which means the recently recalled Koloko could get a shot at backup C mins)

One of these years the rotation will stabilize back into what contemporary basketball is supposed to look like.

Koloko recalled for some NBA minutes?

With a mere 14 games left?

When he likely will be bench-bound if we do make the playoffs?

    ☝🤔☝

[More on the Barton note per Weisfeld:](https://twitter.com/orenweisfeld/status/1635322835039297537?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)

    > Nurse also called Will Barton the “point guard” off the bench and said the reason Jeff Dowtin Jr. is not with team is because he only has 7 NBA games of eligibility left as two-way player, they are saving in case of injury/down the stretch of season. Dalano Banton is with Raptors

    Edit: Additional note:

I’ve wondered if this Poeltl trade could be seen somewhat like the Ibaka trade in 2017. A position we’ve struggled with for years, finally plugged with a veteran who fits the team and Masai has targeted for a while.

Pascal broke out and became our actual starting PF but Serge was able to be played as a C. If Koloko develops well, he’s gonna have Poeltl in front of him for the next few years and there’s no other position to play either of them at. It’s a good problem to have I guess and that’s best case scenario – if he doesn’t develop well then you still have Poeltl at least lol.

There’s a lot of similarities between Pascal and Koloko’s rookie seasons, let’s see if Koloko can try to follow Pascal’s development path (which, for the record, should NOT be expected. Pascal’s development is the exception, not the norm).

  4. I got downvoted last time I said it but should be obvious that Precious is not a Center. He was forced into that role out of necessity. Now that Poeltl is here he is struggling to understanding his new role.

Our bench is so bad Barton immediately comes in and is the backup PG lol.

  5. I don’t see precious as a Bam substitute like I heard mentioned at the time of the trade. That was my hope. Im less interested in him as a wing bc I think he’s way too raw and Im not that confident in his development.

Hate to say it but he’s like a rich man’s joey graham to me – amazing athlete but not so amazing a bball. Hope I’m wrong. He has more potential than Joey but not sure he realizes it.

Besides Poeltl, Koloko has the best net rating in two man lineups. I like it depending on how minutes divide.

  7. StreamingPirate

Jeeze, it’s like everyone is all over the place.

  8. RaiseLive1654

Can they just finally play Scottie at PG?

  9. myrapties

We should be looking to trade Precious in the offseason. He’s got 1 year left on his rookie contract and with the way that he’s been playing we shouldn’t offer him an extension. The man looks lost on defense, can’t shoot and is inefficient as a bench player.

  10. The fact that this team needed to sign Will Barton is indicative of his much this front office has been struggling over the past couple years. Ever since they struck out on Giannis they really haven’t been making moves to strengthen the roster besides falling into drafting Scottie. I really don’t understand wtf they’re doing anymore.

said this many times now ppl will agree cuz nurse said it lol

  12. QueasyDrummer00

If Malachi Flynn’s future with this team was uncertain for anyone, here’s your answer. It couldn’t be more clear that he’s done here.

  13. Himmy_Carter

Yes, we need Koloko back. We need two proper Cs. No more Thad at C please.

  14. SnooHesitations1965

Now’s the time. Let’s play them more, get the bench some time to make and hopefully learn from mistakes. This year is a write off anyway. Also, make Scottie the focal point on offense thanks.

  15. Stinky_DungBeatle

Can someone tell Nick Nurse that putting Thad Young at center is not a credible solution either and makes me want to slam my head in when guys are walking to the rim for free layups.

  16. klobucharzard

its cool how banton and barton are only 1 letter off and theyre both backup PG’s

  17. earlyearlgray

Yesss I’ve been saying this re: Precious sliding to the 4 and putting Koloko at 5!! Boucher at 3, GTJ at 2 and Barton at 1 is a bench lineup I can get behind

  18. OGnotAnunoby

To be fair Precious had to play centre at a necessity in college due to wiseman being injured he was actually a 3 before then

  19. lol. For those who don’t watch a lot of other teams, Barton is most definitely *not* a quality backup pg. And the fact that they are just now realizing that Precious would be better in the wing position is concerning (I know they didn’t have Jak before).

It shows that the coaching staff is not adept at putting guys into positions to succeed. Let me guess, Boucher is still going to be spotting up from three? They need the spacing but that is not where he is strongest.

Varying media/insider guys have hinted that the Raptors are going to be shaken up during this offseason. Would not be surprised to see Nurse go.

  20. green_and_green23

I think we need to keep Scottie at a consistent position too, it’s tough for him to do well if his position is constantly changing

  21. TrueTorontoFan

yup precious isn’t the long term guy and I have said that in terms of at center. I think he becomes the full time backup 4/3 next year maybe spot minutes at 5 if an injury happens but he isn’t a center long term not without cutting into Koloko’s development (I actually think Koloko has a higher upside as a center).

  22. Perfect600

Will Barton cannot be the backup PG.

    My god.

  23. FactorNo7477

I might get downvoted, but Koloko does not have what it takes to become a reliable bench C.

  24. Green-Umpire2297

Oh god are we going to see a Banton Barton Precious Chris Koloko lineup?

    Lottery pick here we come!

  25. iBlackula

What I don’t understand is that why didn’t we convert his 2 way in a regular contract and just put Wieskamp the 2 way. Dowtin has proven to be solid.

  26. Pascal, FVV, OG should get some minor injuries to keep them off the floor…
