Mark Cuban calls Mavs-Warriors mishap 'worse officiating non-call in history' | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Late in the third quarter in the Dallas Mavericks-Golden State Warriors game, there was confusion as to whose ball it was coming out of a timeout. The officials then let the Warriors inbound the ball under their own hoop for an uncontested bucket while the Mavs were on the other end of the court. The Warriors would go on to win the game by just two points. Mavs owner Mark Cuban tweeted after the game that it was the quote: ‘worst officiating non call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA’ and said he will file a formal protest to the league. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes debate whether the refs are to blame for the Mavs loss or not.

  1. Normally don’t agree on Nick. But the refs clearly favored against the Mavs on this. Broussard turning a blind eye.

  2. Worst non-call was Laimbeer's phantom call against Kareem in the '88 Finals. It basically cost them the championship, especially after the entire Lakers crowd floods the floor with two seconds left, not allowing the Pistons to even get a shot off. Pistons were up in the series 3-2 and should have won that game and the 'ship. Pistons should have won three championships in a row. That was 100x worse than what Cuban is complaining about, which is basically Jason Kidd's fault for not knowing what was happening.

  3. Maybe if there wasn't evidence of refs making bank off of fixing games, then maybe players wouldn't think so. It's not some crazy, tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy to say that refs are paid off. The NBA has done a terrible job of preserving an image of honesty and competency from their refs after the whole Tim Donaghy saga.

  4. Nick once again with a ridiculous take. If the MAVs were so confused why didn’t they go to the refs during the timeout and get clarification??

  5. I love this show more than words can explain but the greatest compliment I can pay these gentleman is that even amongst heated discussions they allow each other to be heard and to talk. They have my utmost respect!

  6. I can't believe I am agreeing with Nick, but as a college official for 15 years, I never would have handed the ball the team if I saw this happening.

  7. Wildes has a great question.
If it was Mavs ball, where were they getting the ball from? On the GSW court?
If haf court, then it would mean the secomd call was for time out and the first call was for the GSW ball.

  8. Nick guaranteed a win yesterday for the Mavs and is now clinging to anything he can to justify the loss lol

  9. if the mavs thought it was their ball they need to be where the ball is being put in play

  10. At the end of the day the refs decide when play continues, they decide when to give the ball to the inbounding team to resume play. Why would they just inbound it to the GSW under their own basket knowing no Mavs were anywhere around to defend? That just seems awkward and overules any confusion that existed prior. Like, no matter who's ball it was, no matter how confused the Mavs may have been, why even allow that to happen? It's not a good look for the league no matter how you spin it.
