Maybe he feels this way because he plays at the highest possible level. But I really don’t think it’s that bad.

College basketball can be extremely fun or can feel like watching kids basketball and there’s not a lot of in between

Just think of a video game you’re good at, imagine watching people who are worse than you compete for their championship

  4. ItsLittyLitLit

The basketball itself is worse but, the atmosphere is better

  5. americanbeaver

Fox is absolutely right. They can’t break presses either. It’s terrible offense being touted as terrific defense.

  6. CutmyCockIntoPieces

wow professional sports is a higher level than college, what a crazy take

  7. paddiction

What makes up for it is that college players play with full effort every game. Watching NBA games you see players mail it in every night.

  8. Obvious_Parsley3238

alabama was down 2 with 45 seconds left and fouled instead of trying to play defense, that was pretty bad

He’s not wrong, but there’s also 100s of programs and at least 90% of the players will not have a pro career in the NBA…but possibly G League and international.

If there were only 64 college basketball teams, the quality would be significantly higher but the opportunity to play and compete at different levels and conferences diminishes.

He’s not wrong, but I think the chaos of college basketball, relative to the NBA, is part of what makes it exciting.

I get Fox’s POV, because he is literally a level above and it’s probably is frustrating to watch athletes not be able to do the things you can do with ease.

Personally, as a non-NBA player, I love the hustle and grit of college bball. When each basket is harder to score, each one means more. If the game is close, I’m having fun.

There’s a world where you can enjoy both, guys!

  12. I don’t think many people watch college ball for the incredible skill (though it’s all relative. D1 players are leagues better than most people watching them, and leagues worse than most NBA players). They watch because it’s fun and they root for schools they have a relationship with.

While the level of play is upsets are more fun to see in college plus the overall atmosphere of a college game is better imo.

CBB is awesome man. Just some kids playing a game. I feel like the NBA loses that passion a little bit. I like both pretty much equal, but NBA games barely matter so it’s not as enjoyable of a watch contextually

The effort level and intensity are what make college basketball great. The NBA regular season is unfortunately far behind.

  16. I think fouls are more consistent and fair in college. Watching nba every day and can tell refs have their own agenda on who gets fouls and when especially on layups/drives to basket. In nba everyone flops and travels are never called and ref don’t enforce illegal screens turning the game almost into a 3 point shooting contest.

  17. Complexpolyogon

So most of NBA basketball according to this sub……

  18. errbodylovesaonsie

You can apply 2 of his 3 points to the NBA as well lol. They have shit refs and plenty of shitty coaches.

At least college games are fun to attend. I’ve been to 3 NBA games and they suck ass until the last 2 minutes, just like most NBA games.

It’s weird how a lot of people in this thread are drawing battle lines between the two and mocking college players.

  19. it can’t be too bad if march madness routinely rates higher than the nba finals.

  20. EliteTikiTaka

Aside from shotmaking, De’Aaron is pretty much describing the NBA so i dont think it’s fair college basketball is getting criticized for that.

  21. BaltimoreBadger23

College basketball is not as well played as pro basketball. This is breaking news, stay tuned for full details at 11.

  22. I never see NFL people crap on college football the way NBA people crap on college basketball. Wonder why that is.

  23. If you love basketball you appreciate the level of basketball you are watching. I get hyped watching my nephew play JV basketball because I understand what level he is at and judge it based on that.

  24. God you’re all a bunch of cynical assholes

  25. TylurrTheCat

Why is it not enough for some of you to just say that you don’t like something without trying to invalidate it, or without making baseless assumptions about anyone who *does* enjoy it?

  26. Siakim43

I watch both and the disparity is huge. The best analogy I have is watching a 60 fps film vs. 30 fps. Everything is so much smoother in the NBA.

And also, my team is Rutgers… Number 3 defense and number 176 or something offense. Just a lot of ugly basketball watched this year. But I have a deeper connection with my alma mater than my NBA team so I’m more invested in the games there.

  27. PaulWilliams12

Bad take. The NBA is so bad to watch right now. The stakes of March Madness makes it so much better regardless of anything he’s talking about.

  28. mclareach

He’s not wrong but some of what he’s describing is also part of the charm of college ball.

    1. Shot-making and coaching isn’t at the pro-level but because if that teams run certain sets and styles that have been replaced in todays NBA game because there are so many elite shot makers. At the college level you’ll see teams run action in the high and low post, teams that specialize in getting the ball out in transition, or a Big-10 team, who has an unathletic white guy with a buzz-cut, that will turn the game into a rock-fight . But in the NBA everyone has a guy who can go off for 30+ and so they’re running the some version of penetrate and kick.
    2. Refs are awful. I 100% agree with him and I have no positive spin. Go rewatch Amari Bailey’s “charge” and you’ll see what I mean.

It’s so weird that the level of college ball isn’t at a pro level, it’s so weird

  30. SaveHogwarts

This coming from a guy that shot under 34% on shots outside the paint while in college
