I just woke up from a 6 month coma, is Walker Kessler the greatest offensive NBA Center in the league?
#KESSLER 🔥
– 31PT (87.5% FG), 11REB, 2AST, 1STL, 1BLK, 4PF (***not fouled out***)
– Career high in PT
That Dunn/Juzang/Brantley/Toscano-Anderson/Azubuike lineup really hit hard
GAME NOTES:
Walker Kessler what a man. He has to have some sort of vendetta against Sacramento, because he always plays so good against them. Career high 31 points, 14-16 from the field, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal. It is always so fun seeing him go back and forth against Sabonis. Sabonis got it going early, but Kessler stepped his game up to meet the All Star. He had a few post moves as well, and has incredible hands for a rookie big man. Usually, the catching ability comes later in the career, but he already has excellent hands
Kelly Olynyk had a stretch in the fourth where he scored or assisted on like 5 straight buckets. Again, so close to the elusive triple double, but what Klynyk tonight. 17 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds. 3 turnovers, but he played so well throughout. He is such a good pick n roll ball handler, hitting lobs to Kessler, and getting some good kickouts. He plays at his own pace and gets the most awkward flip shots to go at the rim
Agbaji also had a great bounceback game. 20 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds. He shot 8-15, and 3-7 from 3. He was active in the passing lanes, and provides some great on ball defense. Although he missed that bunny layup with 25 sec left to cut it to 4, I still think eh played great. He created his own shots, and was getting others involved in the passing game. He’s improved so much this year. Great game by our rookies today
Brantley was our 4th highest scorer, and led the bench with points, mainly going 3-5 from 3. I don’t know what they did to him in the down under, but he came back as a different player. He wasn’t much of a shooter his first stint, and now he is confident with his shot.
THT couldn’t get a shot to fall to save his life, and was hurting us down the stretch. Forced a lot of shots, and wasn’t making the best reads. He had 9 points, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 rebound in 27 minutes tonight.
Tech also struggled tonight, going 2-10 from the field for 5 points, 2 turnoveres, 3 rebounds. He and THT played more minutes than they should’ve given their rough shooting nights. I would’ve loved to have seen Dunn and Brantley absorb some of those minutes late, but it’s not a big deal. Players have off games.
Dunn dropped in 12 off the bench with 5 assists and 4 rebounds, but missed two clutch free throws that would’ve helped to cut the lead to 4 under a minute left. His defense was good as usual, and his 3 point shot continues to surprise me.
We really struggled to hit 3’s. Excluding Brantley and Agbaji, we went 3-16 from 3 tonight. That third quarter was especially brutal, where we scored just 17 points and missed a lot of good looks.
As others have pointed out, that lineup of Dunn/JTA/Juzang/Brantley/Dok was a very interesting choice. It’s definitely one of the lineups of all time
Our second quarter was our best, where our shots were falling and we were shutting down the bench unit of the Kings. It just comes down to a make or miss league, and no matter how good of looks you get, if you can’t convert it doesn’t matter. Shoutout to Keegan Murray dude, what a baller. He couldn’t miss tonight for the Kangz
Dok and Jones split minutes as our backup C tonight, and Dok outplayed Jones in 3 more minutes. 2 points, but 6 rebounds with 3 of those being offensive. Udoka Azubuike has surprised me, I genuinely thought he would be off the team and out of the rotation by now, but his minutes haven’t been all bad.
Our turnovers hurt us this game, we had 16 compared to the Kings 8. Olynyk gives up wayyyy too many a game, but it’s a double edged sword because he is really good at creating off the pick n roll. He just needs some sort of discipline on some of the passes he is throwing out there. I don’t know if it is because he is semi-predictable, but it is frustrating seeing him try to thread the needle 3-4 times a game, and maybe be successful once.
I’m not sure what sort of defense we were running in the fourth, it looked like maybe a 2-1-2 zone? Olynyk or Agbaji would play that free safety role and watch for the flare at the top of the key by Sabonis. It wasn’t horrible, but it was definitely something I don’t think I’ve seen Hardy run before. Props to him for trying different things out.
Overall a fun game to lose, Kessler with a monster game. I’m so excited to see what he can do next year. Always a fun game against the Kings, win or lose, and we’ve had some close games against them. While we only won once in our 4 matchups, the point differential has been Kings +3.
35-39 bitches. Playoffs still very much within reach, just 2 games out of the 7th seed, and 1 game out of the play-in if that’s the route we want to go. However, we have 9th best odds in the lottery rn, and are just 2.5 games behind the Pacers and Blazers for 6th best odds.
Agbaj3 with 20 points, and Blocker with over 30 points makes this loss, a win
Plus we improve the tank
Rookie duo kicked some ass. Kelly Olynyk flirted with another triple-double. Everything else was ass. Since when do three point shooters just not exist on the Jazz? Late in the fourth, trying to come back. Our two guards were Tucker and Dunn, and neither try to shoot from deep. There was no way to come back without getting somebody else in there who can shoot it.
At one point early in the game, the commentators were praising the Kings for doing well at the time. I had to laugh, because at that moment, they had most of their starters on the court, while Utah had Juan Toscano Anderson, Doke, and Juzang out there. I would hope they do well, otherwise I’d be worried.
Jarrel Brantley made a great decision by going overseas and improving his game
Walker Kessler
I feel bad for Kess, That lineup of Juzang, JTA, Dok, Dunn and Brantley is the stuff of fucking nightmares in a very bad way
THT’s decision making & shot selection is exhausting to watch.
Fun game from the extra young jazz.
THT has got to find some consistency. That long mid range fade away basically shut the door on us.
He uses that fade way too often it really is just making his looks harder when the defense isn’t even that close at times.
Ochai and Kessler continue to impress though.
Also shout out to JB second game and he’s fit like a glove looks more confidant and shooting looks better.
Why does Walker Kessler, the best and biggest player, not simply just eat the other players?
I’ll be rooting for the Pacers, Blazers, and Wizards to win for the rest of the season.
Lol thanks for making a thread! This game put me to sleep in my living room.
First NBA game, First Game watching the Jazz play. Sac was going crazy for their Kings and Utah still put up such a good fight. Wish I had gotten to see Markkanen play but seeing Kessler obliterate was such a treat. I’m forever a Jazz fan after tonight.
Just feed Kessler, he needs about 3 field goals a game for the rest of the season to qualify as the best FG% player in the league.
Only player right now that could beat him out is Daniel Gafford, but he would need to score 48 FGs in 8 games, or 6 a game. Right now he averages about 3.
Honestly it’s amazing, even if you remove the 300 made FG limit, Kessler is still 13th for FG%, and that’s including several random dudes who’ve only made about 8 buckets for the whole season.
Kings fan here I come in peace. Great game against you guys as usual. Always comes down to the wire. Kessler is a BEAST of a rookie and against the kings he bullies everyone. Would be fun to see a series against you guys with both teams fully healthy. Hope you guys find a way into the postseason 💯💯
Kings fan here! You guys are an absolute problem, especially when healthy. Every Kings fan in the world wishes we had Walker Kessler lmao what a beast
I almost went to this game, but the tickets were too expensive. I definitely want to catch one in Sacramento next year: it’s a great arena, the fans are cool, and now the Kings seem to be a good match for us.
Can we have Kessler back please, you can have Gobert back?
