Where’s that meme that says “I don’t know what this means, and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask”?

It statistics using numbers to tell a story but at the core of it, the years the team has made the playoffs is going to have the ‘best’ players and the worst years are the current iterations of the team. It’s a complex way to give individual players credit for team success.

Notice all the best players are from the years where they were an eight seed. Makes sense but also there is more talent

Using +/- to rank players doesn’t work super well afaik. Here’s my comment from an /r/NBA thread on it.

“+/- is not a good stat to use comparing player -to-player. If you’re looking at a set of players or a lineup, it’s can work, but using it on different players on different teams ignores that rotations are generally consistent, and that who those players are on the court with can affect those scores. ”

This is especially true when the team at hand is not *trying* to win certain games. Not sure which stat would be more appropriate, however.
