Yeah the take foul rule implemented this season absolutely exposed our transition defense this season, and Jason Midd did nothing to address it this entire season

Luka and Kyrie is and will be a great tandem. Obviously, I know he can play off-ball, but I’m stunned at how well he moves off-ball. Guy was picking apart zones standing at the FT line vs Miami the other day.
Luka is the one who needs to adapt. Honestly, I’ve seen a little bit from him which is encouraging, whether it be more passes up ahead or jogging ahead with the ball creating transition opportunities. Need more 1-2 screening for both of them. Luka has taken more catch n shoot 3s since his rookie season.
With all that said, Dallas will go absolutely nowhere without defense added. Specifically, you need a couple top 100 players in the league. Can’t just settle for profile. Need to be starting level.

If we can get some defense/rebounding this off-season at C & wing we should be in good shape

We give up a lot in transition and dong get many in transition. We also don’t get offensive rebounds or second chance points.

The problem is pre-Kyrie we beat teams to death by dictating pace. Once we thought… let’s speed the game up then we let other teams up their pace.
The Mavs dragged teams into the mud and made them beat them in the half court. Other people hated it but it was the reason we beat teams… half court efficiency.
We now push the ball and that increases the number of possessions we have to defend. Which increases the number of shots other teams get up and since we can’t rebound it means even more shots.
