Keegan Murray Is Not Your Average Rookie…

Keegan Murray was a very good prospect. Someone I was confident would be a good player. And he’s proven that in his rookie season. Murray recently just set the record for most 3s in a rookie season at 188. And with enough time left in the season, he could be the first rookie ever to reach the 200 mark. Which is very likely because he’s currently at 192 total at the time of me recording this video. Keegan Murray is a unique rookie. Who’s in a position that most top 4 picks aren’t in. He’s a starter on a playoff team. He’s making an immediate impact. And despite being 22 already as a rookie. I think he has pretty good upside.

Keegan Murray is a 6’8″ 215lb wing forward for the Sacramento Kings. He was the 4th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Kings following a stellar sophomore season at Iowawhere he was the best power forward in the nation and a consensus first team all-american. Murray is already one of the best three point shooters as well as one of the best off ball scorers in the NBA as a rookie. His skillset fits well next to playmakers like Fox and Sabonis. Murray has been one of the best rookies in the NBA, and has been a starting level contributor on one of the best teams in the West this season. We all know what Murray is right now, and what his floor is. But the question is, what is his ceiling?

My name is Noah Terranova. On this channel I make videos breaking down the film of basketball players in both long term and single game contexts. I use a combination of advanced stats, basic stats, tracking stats, and what I take away from watching the games to form my evalutions. My goal is to give my own perspective on the game with my own little twist on how I choose to present it.

  1. I cannot imagine Keegan wearing another uniform aside from purple and black 🖲💜💜💜

  2. The thing is, Keegan has already shown his growth potential Year 1 to Year 2 in college. Keegan 2.0 is a dominant All Star level player. He is literally holding back // the offense doesn't key on him as much as it will in the next 2 years. Also, this "older rookie" narrative needs to die. Most 1-and-done rookies are in the league solely bc of upside athleticism. Keegan is a different kind of rookie – super skilled, smart, and already plus defensively. The areas of his game that he needs to shore up – on ball, creation, finishing, drawing fouls – those are mostly mental and easier to develop with experience and higher usage.

  3. Having Murray lock down the SF position from a decade is a win for the kings.. better than a bust

  4. Keegan beat Mitchell’s rookie 3 point record on about 100 fewer attempts.

  5. 0:49 Man. I remember watching Dennis Scott hitting 267 in the 90s and thinking that would take a while to break. It took a decade for Ray Allen to get 269 (still wild to me that he became a shooter when he entered the league as more of a slasher/dunker with a mid-range).

Now rookies are cracking 200 and everyone else is hovering in that 250-325 range. Would have loved to have seek players let loose to shoot in the 80s-00s. Glad Keegan is in an era where he can just play his game.

Glad to see you doing well, my guy!

  6. Even this guy is trying to hop on the Kings Bandwagon. LIGHT THE BEAM on these Kings Haters trying to Bandwagon!

  7. He doesn't get the hype because of the role he is in. Give him volume on shitty teams like the others and he'll be average higher numbers. But the SAC roster is good and they need him as a 3 and D guy, which he fits perfectly. D could use some work, but from 3 he has proved he is elite. Let Domas and Fox run the offense and having an elite 3 shooter to pass out to is what makes the SAC offense the best statistically in the league.
