[Early] Jokic has played 57 more minutes than Embiid this season. Equivalent of a game and a quarter. Embiid has logged 224 more minutes than Giannis. That’s more than 4.5 full 48 min ballgames. Voters look at total games played but workload should probably matter too.

(Not to mention how much harder it is to be a premier two way player. You get the sense Embiid could have played another 10 games easily if he was a one way player).

Jokic has played 67 games and a total of 2272 minutes.

Embiid has played 64 games and a total of 2215 minutes.

Giannis has played 62 games and a total of 1991 minutes.

    Minutes…We talkin’ bout minutes?

What’s next? A literal dick measuring contest?

  2. Followthehype10

All this tells me is there is more bucks blowouts than Denver and 76er blow outs lol

  3. d4videnk0

I’m tired, just give the award to Conley or whatever.

  4. The_Sign_of_Zeta

If we’re going to talk about minutes, then we should be extrapolating stats at per 36 rather than at per game too. Because the per game stats already help account for the difference in minutes played.

And if we do that, Giannis beats Embiid in points/rebounds/assists.

  5. SvengaliUG

Giannis and Bucks needing fewer minutes per game to win is a plus.

That also means more minutes for the bench mob and better team chemistry

  6. FourFingeredBertans

So they’ve all played a similar number of games with reasonably similar workloads. Got it.

  7. kyleb402

Only in the warped MVP addled brain discussion on this sub would Giannis putting up the numbers he does in the minutes he plays be construed as a bad thing.

    This has truly become pathetic

  9. rrousseauu

Only played a game and a quarter more in minutes but has 6 more wins in games played this season.

    Sounds like MVP to me

Embiid should stop playing defense if it’s bad for his health

  11. To me minutes are a really poor measure- if you play and your team is up 30 at halftime and you sit the second half then that isn’t less valuable.

Sitting out completely isn’t valuable to a team. Actually leading your team to wins is what matters.

  12. OneLonelyLife

Mikail Brodges is gonna play 83 games and led 2 teams to the playoffs and he plays both ends.

    My MVP

  13. Steph curry won unanimously sitting out half of the 4th quarters. this is stupid

  14. ConfidentCobbler5100

So much coping. If Nuggets weren’t coasting to #1 Jokic would likely be playing. They got so far ahead of the pack he doesnt need to play. That’s because when he plays they win at a higher percentage.

Also now do their w/l and win shares, or really literally any metric outside of ppg.

I hope it’s Giannis just so these kids stay salty at this point. “He campaigned really hard for it”, “come on give him a turn, please, the other guys already had their turn and should be held to a higher standard than Embiid” might work, though. People already buying into it.

If I was out here campaigning for this as hard as Embiid and Philly fans that’s what I’d do. Don’t make it where you lose comparing the active guys, keep making it about Jokic vs the all time greats who won 3 while pretending Giannis isn’t in the picture. That’s the best way to do it. They should be targeting the swing MVP voters that don’t watch enough basketball, not this shit targeting Philly fans, because that’s literally all this is. Keep staying away from the h2h where Embiid ducks Jokic in Denver and got crushed by Giannis, just keep making it this years Jokic vs prime MJ/Magic/etc and not giving Giannis any attention and hammer home the PPG. That’s the play to ice it.

  15. SnooHedgehogs2050

I mean throw in the Bucks record and how they could afford to sit Giannis. Also the thing with Giannis is he typically sits more then other stars because the speed that he plays at as a 7 footer is unheard of

  16. Spongebutt4tywon

Support for Giannis coming from a 76ers fan! Tuesday starting crazy

  17. WeeWoooFashion

6ers doing mental gymnastics to justify embiid over Jokic and giannis💀

  18. It absolutely should matter, but we do stats on a per-game basis usually so MPG differences are already basically accounted for.

If someone is pointing to per-minute stats (which probably would make Giannis look like the runaway MVP), then this context is much more valuable.

  19. dezcaughtit25

Forget minutes, MVP should be decided by total steps taken all season. Give them all a Fitbit at the beginning of the season and they turn it in after the last game.

  20. Long-Furby

As a sixers fan this take is dogshit lmao

  21. Ok_Respond7928

This is dumb man can we please stop this. Also this is dumb because it holds the bucks blowing teams out in 3 quarters against Giannis

  22. Joshthe1337

Embiid and the Sixers have killed the MVP award. Now all I want is anyone but Embiid to win MVP and for the Sixers to lose early in the playoffs.

  23. junkntrashman

This is somehow the most annoying MVP season of all time. The narratives all year have been pushed by idiot stat heads that don’t watch games.

  24. nenanasainyam

    Embiid’s an MVP candidate because he’s a 2-way player. We already have Embiid as a one-way player – it’s called Karl-Anthony Towns

  25. SandyMandy17

Bc that’s all his team needs when he plays

  26. souttous

Really dumb argument. Why would you punish someone for sitting out 4th quarters? Jokic does more in fewer minutes but Embiid will win.

  27. TheBruh120

    Me the first sentence 😁😁

    Me the 3rd sentence 😤😡

  28. XiaoWhen

I originally had no horse in this race. But damn this post straight up makes me wanna pray that Embiid doesn’t win just so homer’s like you can cry even more

  29. RedRocket13

Did you guys see how this got reposted in the Sixers sub without the first half of the tweet? Lmao

  30. MrAdelphi03

    So you are punishing efficiency?

Giannis scores 30 in 28 minutes then proceeds to sit TF down

  31. Why Jokic need to log more minutes when Nuggets are up 20 in the 4th?

  32. MedvedRis

Jokić needs less time to achieve better results

  33. mistergrape

Minutes & games are all pretty arbitrary stats that don’t reflect the opportunity to produce. Possessions is the stat to use. Among the 3 guys:

    Points – 1) Embiid 2) Giannis 3)Jokic

    Assists – 1) Jokic 2) Giannis 3) Embiid

    Rebounds – 1) Giannis 2) Jokic 3) Embiid

    Steals – 1) Jokic 2) Embiid 3) Giannis

    Blocks – 1) Embiid 2) Giannis 3) Jokic

    Fewest Turnovers – 1) Embiid 2) Jokic 3) Giannis

Fewest Fouls Given – 1) Jokic 2) Embiid 3) Giannis

    FT Attempts – 1) Giannis 2) Embiid 3) Jokic

Assists/Potential Assists (rate at which the player receiving the pass scores vs. misses or turns over) – 1) Embiid 2) Jokic 3) Giannis

All 3 have different play styles & pace, and play in different systems with different roles. Embiid has Harden to handle assists & typically the game plan calls for him to get back on transition defense rather than crash the offensive boards. Jokic & Giannis start with the ball more on offense, leading to more assist opportunities per possession.
