Joel Embiid MVP a LOCK!? 🔒 NBA Today is a split on their final MVP decision

NBA Today’s Malika Andrews is joined by Kendrick Perkins, Ramona Shelburne and Chiney Ogwumike to break down Joel Embiid’s 52-PT explosion in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 103-101 victory over the Boston Celtics before comparing his odds to win NBA MVP to an inconsistent Nikola Jokic.

  1. Can the media f'ing stop shoving this Embiid for MVP BS down our throats? If he's MVP, he'll get voted in and shouldn't need you to campaign for him.

  2. The MVP should play at least average defense and not get subbed out for defense by his own coach in late game moments

  3. Based on the footage, I think it is pretty clear that Grant Williams wants Embiid to win the MVP. I know that he is half a foot shorter(!) but seriously, he wasn't even trying.

  4. So Kendrick "white people are racist" Perkins votes for "the best player on the best team"? I guess that means Nash and Nowitzki deserved their MVPs after all, huh? (Well, Nash deserved it in 2005, at least.)
In 2006, Nash's second MVP should have gone to…Kobe? Nope, Chauncey Billups! Detroit had best record that season.
In fact, Kobe never gets an MVP at all! In 2008, Boston had the best record, so Garnett gets Kobe's MVP. Sorry, Black Mamba!
But that is not a second MVP for Garnett, because his 2004 MVP should go to someone on the Pacers. Reggie? Jermaine O'Neal? Metta World Peace?
Obviously, Westbrook doesn't get one, and neither does Iverson.
You know who else doesn't get one? Hakeen Olajuwon! The 1994 MVP was apparently Shawn Kemp.
Clyde Drexler gets one of Jordan's MVPs, and Isiah gets one of Magic's. Good for them, I guess.
In short, Big Perk, you are an idiot. Because you would never actually use the criterion you just invented to give the award to Giannis.

  5. They short handed and they get the smallest man on the field to gard Embiid soooo sad how they are forcing everything just for Emid to win… his first Pity MVp

  6. They don’t talk about Jokic this way. Never have. ESPN have always been Embiid fans. It sucks for both players.

  7. Embiid has such weird form shooting those midrange shots. Deadly tho! It looks like his year. He’s not the best player, Giannis is, and Joker is the best offensive player (all around), but Embiid scores in droves, and he’s a good to great defender. I’m surprised but glad he’s stayed healthy all year.

  8. Embiid is over 7 feet, defended by a a guy a half foot shorter who barely contested his shots…

  9. Stating the nuggets have the same number of wins as philly kinda undermines them, they would have more if they had an incentive, they already had the 1 seed locked in why fight to inflate the win count and risk injury, the risk to reward ratio is massively disbalased as injuries have killed the nuggets every single year

  10. Perkins, voting for giannis but rooting for Embiid and celebrates it if he wins. As a specific person said about a month ago "what do those guys have in common"?

  11. The only reason the NBA would end up giving the MVP to Joel Embiid this season is because of pity, peer pressure, and avoiding death threats by Philadelphia sports fans and other NBA fans. All because of what the mentally challenged sports media says, presumably ESPN, and because Kendrick Perkins having a vendetta towards Nikola Jokic just because he's light-skinned and doesn't have a game style like Shaq, Hakeem Olajuwon, or the late Kobe Bryant.

  12. I plain don't think this dude has a "strong" MVP case lol. Giannis is just better. Better player, better teammate, better playmaker, more points per minute. Giannis would certainly nab the scoring title on a regular basis if he played even just 3 more minutes per game. Giannis and Joel have both had three 50 point games. Not sure that Embiid's 50 pointer should be the determining factor.

How tf can we say Embiid is the MVP when Giannis is better and lead his team to a higher (the best in the league) seed? Huh? Someone tell me how. Don't give me any bs about true shooting or shooting 3's. Those are not valid arguments.

ETA: that game was STAGED af. They all stood there. Looked like the allstar game. They wanted Joel to get all of the teams points and he did. He didn't NEED to do that as they claim. I swear to god doc rivers told the team pregame "boys, let Joel score. If you're thinking of scoring, DON'T. give the ball to Joel. Let's get the guy this MVP". LOL fr though. That was ridiculous. Nobody defended him. Nobody TRIED.

To me the MVP shouldn't only be the best player, but also the best teammate and leader. He should have a winner's mentality. Joel really does not care about anybody but himself and it is crystal clear. Go listen to a Giannis postgame interview and compare that to a Joel post game. It's night and day. Giannis is the more intelligent, mature player and for that reason, his teammates share his success. Joel pushes everyone down in attempt to get his own opportunities. Plays dirty and it's not an opinion. HE. PLAYS. DIRTY. Can't believe this dirty flopper about to be MVP 🤦‍♀

  13. Easily mvp.
He honestly should have at least 3 by now but Giannis and jokic have better PR

  14. Perkins is a moron and a disgrace to knowledgeable NBA fans. Shelburne is a gifted reporter on league matters but knows very little about the game on court. She's embarrassing when she talks about it. Andrews knows less than anyone on the show by far but is a nice host with a pretty face. So why would anyone pay the slightest attention to what this group has to say?

  15. AYO ALL U PPL FOR EMBIID, WHAT NOW!?!? 21 PTS, 6 REBOUNDS, 2 ASSISTS AND BLOWN OUT BY THE HEAT
