[MacMahon] Team sources have acknowledged to ESPN that fear exists that Doncic, who publicly and privately expressed extreme frustration this season, could consider requesting a trade as soon as the summer of 2024 if Dallas doesn’t make significant progress by then.

There’s a strong sense of urgency within the organization to expedite the process before Doncic loses faith in the Mavs’ ability to build a contender around him. He’s wrapping up the first season of a five-year, $215 million supermax contract with a player option for the final season.

Team sources have acknowledged to ESPN that fear exists that Doncic, who publicly and privately expressed extreme frustration this season, could consider requesting a trade as soon as the summer of 2024 if Dallas doesn’t make significant progress by then.

“He’d like to be here the whole time,” Cuban said earlier this week when asked about Doncic’s long-term optimism. “But we’ve got to earn that.”

  1. Didn’t they trade for Kyrie because Doncic wanted it?

I trust Laker nation already has thousands of photoshops of Luka in a Laker uniform, can’t wait to see those everyday for the next 12 years

  3. Sparrow_Wilson

Wow the pick they owe us just isn’t going to convey ever lmao

Serious question. Which team is a Luka Doncic away from being contenders/favorites? The Raptors can probably cover hiss ass on defense but the roster is full of bricklayers.

  5. If Kyrie leaves he’s doing it this off-season.

Btw this is Tim just speculating he said this earlier in the year too. He wants Luka to request a trade so bad

He said literally the exact same thing on the Zach Lowe podcast in December I think

Can you blame him? The mavs have slowly devolved into a discombobulated organization

  8. tyler1118

I mean Dallas has failed time and time again to build a contending team around him, not surprised.

Oh man some specific subs are gonna be insufferable with trade machine posts till 2024?? Gah damn

Just do it, Mark. Follow your shark instincts and offer Luka to the Spurs for the Wemby pick. You know that this is the right thing to do.

Mark Cuban is entering James Dolan levels of bad. No assets, they’re gonna have to pay Kyrie $200 million, they’re already paying Bertans and THJ for 3 more years, and I’m sure Luka loved the blatant tank job they did yesterday. Not to mention everything off the court in the Mavs front office. Luka asking out would be very understandable

Can’t blame him. This team isn’t getting better and all it’s doing is tarnishing his image. People are now asking if he’s a top 10 player (spoiler, he absolutely is) and for a player of his stature to have a reputation that isn’t even his fault is unfair.

  13. I mean, yeah.

If another year goes by and the Mavs are not improved, I can’t really blame him.

You get the sense the mavs just acquire players but don’t have much of a plan. What are they building?

I’ve been mentioning this in the Lakers subreddit for almost a year now. Pelinka has been considering the 2024 summer for quite a while. This could mean the Lakers sign players to 2-3 year deals this summer to have enough to send back out in a trade.

Any team trading for Luka will be sending the KD package basically, perhaps more.

    >fear exists

    >could consider

    > if Dallas doesn’t make significant progress by then.

first that’s a lot of ifs and that statement is true for every superstar in the NBA, if you look at All-NBA teams from 5 years ago almost every player requested a trade or left in free agency, that’s just NBA, 2 bad seasons and your star will want to leave

  17. Cark_Muban

Trade him this offseason please. Just give up. We all know what’s going to happen, dont drag it out

  18. mooney2j

Not even 24 hours after being eliminated we’re already running with this, sheesh.

  19. After last night they should worry about that trade request in the summer of 2023

  20. If Denver fails to live up to expectations and doesn’t make it to the finals, I think a Jokic/Luka pairing is possible. They’ll need to score 210 points every game but they might.

  21. lannisterandahalf

Where the people at saying Jokic would come to the Mavericks? Looks to me like Doncic is more likely to leave
I doubt Denver could get him but one can dream

  22. Commercial_Cheek_591

I would hate to lose Luka but if we do I hope he goes to

    1) Denver to play with jokic who he clearly is very close with.
    2) Milwaukee to play with another international superstar
    3) Miami, good international city and hopefully Riley could whip him into his peak athletic self

  23. If Doncic requests a trade does that move the Mavs ahead of the kings for fumbling the Doncic sweepstakes?
