  1. Resign Kai, if we are lucky draft Wemby or trade the pick for proven players (big wing and rebounding C) and we are a top4 seed in the west for the next 3 years.

We are not that far away – we got 1a and 1b already. Its now about filling the team with the right players

  2. Active_Page_3886

He needs to. This team is awful and maybe a trade request will finally make them fix this shit.

Worked when Paul Pierce did it. Worked when Kobe did it.

  3. It is very possible if this kind of season happens to him again. He’s not Dirk, he’s not going to wait around well into his 30s. And if he does request a trade, can anyone blame him? He poured his everything into the game to carry the team just to be met with disappointment time after time.

  4. Who would have guessed he wouldn’t respect loser mentality culture like half this sub. enjoy your top 10 pick though.

  5. Axisofcoolio

Cuban needs to be humbled in the worst way

  6. Tim sure likes to stoke the flames burning House Mavericks.

  7. totaliron

Luka will eventually leave if we dont construct a good roster. I’ve been saying this since the KP trade which is still a shit trade that most of you guys won’t admit. I still get private messages from time to time saying I’m an idiot for flaming the front office for all the shit decisions they’ve made. Fuck you guys and I told you sošŸ‘

  8. amino110

Y’all are dumb as hell for falling for these clickbaits

  9. ChampionshipVinyl_

KD fan coming in peace. Mavs suck. Should not have traded for Kyrie

  10. ITakeLargeDabs

Anyone with a brain and eyes saw this coming. Why would one of the top 5 players in the league want to work for incompetent ownership/management? Especially at the levels the Mavs are currently operating at. I donā€™t see this ending well at all unless radical changes are made

  11. AdVisual3406

Theres FA in that article other than speculation.

  12. vincepen

Out of curiosity where would make sense for Luka?

  13. desispeed

The tank project prob was final straw ā€¦.incompetent management

  14. Amazing-Refuse7065

The past 3 years were a masterclass in roster construction malpractice

  15. gortlank

A lot of people on here would celebrate if Luka requested a trade because they actually do not like the Mavericks lol. Something about ā€œteachingā€ Cuban or the FO or whomever a lesson, because their entire fandom is based on hating them.

  16. MrQuiteLimited9

Please sell the team Cubes before itā€™s too late

  17. MastaMayne

If this happens I will legitimately be fucking depressed in real life. And I can definitely see it happening. Weā€™re a couple of moves not happening from being completely and utterly fucked

  18. StefonDiggsHS

Tim literally said the exact same thing in December on the Zach Lowe podcast

  19. Calliesdad20

I wouldnā€™t blame doncic at all, they have done a laughably incompetent job

  20. rcoffers

He should request this year IMO. He owes us nothing. If I was in his shoes seeing this management, this coaching staff, this ability to create a worse roster every year, I would be GONE.

  21. erics75218

Jason Kidd will go down in history as one of the best Mavs players who finally helped bring a title…and the coach that was so trash our superstar left and the franchise was set back 20 years.

    Mark my words

  22. Butterfly_Scape

the FO fucked up big time by not doing anything last summer after jalen left..

  23. j_rom_003

I know we (and Luka) hate to admit it and see it for what it is, but this tanking to end the season was the right move given the situation. The best outcome of the season was always going to be a huge up hill battle that would end up in bowing out without a finals appearance. The West is stacked right now and even when the team was rolling earlier this season we were talking about positioning against the right opponents for playoffs. Luka has been playing basketball for almost 2 years straight so physically he needs a LONG break. Not to mention the personal/off the court stuff he has alluded to.

So increasing odds significantly on keeping an asset by losing a few more games that was in reach and getting the Luka rest and getting some reps for young players seems like the right move. Ok the Kyrie front they are giving him the rest he needs as well and seemingly building the trust with him to potentially keep him. But if he decides he’s not sticking around then at least they have a healthy Kyrie and can offer most money in sign and trade to get more value/players out of it. Sucks to see the season end but it puts the team in a better position long term imo.

  24. StormTheTrooper

Luka is untradeable. Period. KD, an older player, with skeletons in the closet and demanding a trade 2 times in 6 months, went for 4 picks and another guy that wouldā€™ve warranted another 4 in the open market (as reported). Luka, younger, without the bad rep of KD, without the injury record and under contract for 3 years, is untradeable. Even if he asks out, thereā€™s no team ready to match the market price.

We need to do the right things moving forward, not the things that will only please Luka stans. Build a team to win instead of filling it up with over the hill veterans just to lose to the Nuggets in the 1st round.

  25. TheChosenOne311

It really is concerning how media illiterate modern sports fans are. They fall for every single headline.

This is embarrassing. Tim is the definition of a hack.

  26. queylewis

cuban has always been a snake – the most overrated owner in all of sports.

I remember when this cocky douchebag really tried to buy the rangers and dodgers lmfao

  27. Disastrous_Ad6654

We were really fortunate Dirk was so loyal.

  28. yumyum_sauce69

    Couple things here:

    1. I donā€™t blame Luka for being upset. Things have been ā€œdumpster fireā€ esq lately. Itā€™s also humiliating that we punted on a chance at the post season for a pick (even if it was logistically not a bad idea). I just think, from a player like Lukaā€™s perspective, itā€™s cowardly to not give him and Ky a chance in the post season given how talented they are.

    2. Luka isnā€™t absolved. Heā€™s an extremely poor defensive player which is based mostly on effort. I canā€™t tell you how many other all time greats have issues getting back and being engaged defensively. Sorry, love Luka, but heā€™s not perfect. Also, he whines way to much, which contributes to the bad defense (not getting back) and overall has an effect on the teams vibe. You go as your star goes, and when your star complains every time down the court and doesnā€™t hustle back, it has an effect. Lastly, he shows 0 willingness to play off ball. Most times he stands around half court with hands on hips of the ball isnā€™t in his hands. This is obviously an issue when playing with other stars.

    3. The package that would need to be put together for Luka would be absurd, to the point of being unrealistic. I just donā€™t see any team other than OKC who could make a serious play for him.. and why would he want to be in OKC? If they gutted the roster, would they be in a better spot than we currently are? I also think OKC would be better off with SGA, Giddey, Chet, etc. SGA himself isnā€™t as good as Luka, but damnit heā€™s really not that far off. Thisā€™ll get me down voted, but thereā€™s an argument to be made that heā€™s not far off. Heā€™s young, heā€™s a 30+ ppg scorer, heā€™s a good defensive player, and he can play without the ball in his hands.

    4. Mavs have leverage.

  29. hewasphone

Mark Cuban is a horrible owner time and time again he has fumbled the off season. Need to sell

  30. BHop96th

We need to trade him ASAP. Why tf would he stay here?

  31. MitchumBrother

Okay MacMahon is a clown, but realistically I don’t see a path to turn this team into a true contender in the next two to three years. Hurr durr Wemby. Just shut up. We probably won’t get him Then what? Realistic trade and FA scenarios? I’m listening…lol

  32. Affectionate_Sort_78

I like Luka. Would you want to play for a franchise who wonā€™t keep players and purposely tanks?

  33. 2plus2means5

Star player misses playoffs, reporter wants pay bump before next season starts and then ponders engagement bait ideas to bump up his numbers before going to execs…. oh what happens next

  34. laundryman2

Bring all the rumors. Luka should request a trade. We are a travesty. Cuban really is Dolan 2.0.

  35. whothat19

Man these comments are a joke. You can tell who are actually fans of a team and just Luka stans. I don’t like Cuban but “humbling” doesn’t work with his type of personality. It would just ruin the team for the next decade. I care about the team that I have been watching for decades. I could care less who plays as long as we win and compete. Geesh yes we needed to tank the last 2 games and it’s been a disappointing team but I will never give up on my teams future. We fell in the ground this year but I’m confident we’ll get back to it next season.

  36. reddit_reader_25

Some people may actually like him leavingā€¦

  37. unoffxcial

I wouldnā€™t be upset if Luka got traded. Heā€™s a ball dominant player who doesnā€™t play defense and has childish tendencies that cost him and the team. No player of value wants to be his backup dancer and no coach wants to take the heat for trying to COACH any of his bad tendencies and habits out of him. Heā€™s GREAT, but also a very frustrating player to watch.

  38. JeffreyAlton

Luka is playing out this contract regardless. Cuban would not even consider it

  39. Jon-Rambo

    ā€œTeam sources acknowledgeā€ ā€œfear existsā€ ā€œcould requestā€ ā€œ2024ā€

Lots of qualifiers there. Basically this just says what we all know. Mavs gotta fix things for next season.

  40. -Buckaroo_Banzai-

As if. Even if Luka demands a trade, he’s got 3 years remaining and won’t be moved because of that and the fans throwing Cuban out of the city if he’d trade him.

At the same time, the Mavs don’t have the assets to build a contender around Luka and he’ll certainly ask to be traded once his deal gives him enough leverage to do so.

So my guess would be that around 2026 Luka will be gone, and seeing how incompetent this front office is, they’ll be letting him go for one first, a star on an expiring contract he won’t resign in Dallas and a couple of 2nds while having traded their own picks up until 2029.

  41. I’m all for it. Dude can go get fat and whine to refs for another team. Let’s see the haul we can get for him.

  42. mcskim46

Iā€™ve been a mavericks fan for 20+ years. Today hurts. It just does. So there is a lot of emotion. I remember after getting screwed in the 06 finals the Mavs posted 67 wins the next season. Dirk league MVP. Mavericks #1 seed going into playoffs and matched up against #8 Golden State and Barron Davis coached by Donnie Nelson. Mavs bounced. Literally an amazing season wasted and over in about 2 weeks into the playoffs.

The next 3 seasons we changed coaches, lost in the first round twice more and the second round. Then the 2010 season came and we had added a legend PG and some deadly shooting with Peja, Caron Butler, Stephenson. We had one of the greatest playoff runs of all time to win it all. What happened the year after that? Lost in the first round.

My point being emotions are hot right now. Our Front office has work to do. Was I embarrassed watching last night, absolutely. Iā€™m glad Cuban is taking flak. Let him. Let him stew in it for the next few months. The first challenge is that Luka is going to want to play in FIBA World Cup. He cannot be allowed to. Luka gets hurt and you can kiss the small chance of keeping Kyrie goodbye. If we can get a too 4 pick I think we trade that immediately to whomever will give us a decent big plus a second round pick or two. Then try to move some of our albatross contracts and do not sign Powell. I think there are fixes but the expectation canā€™t be conference finals or finals. It has to be playoffs (out of play in). The. In 24-25 we go for another big player and go all in for two years to win chips.

  43. notsure9191

Trade him while he has value. The guy gets paid $40m a year and canā€™t even keep in shape.

  44. ARandomDudeSlav

Here come the Luka to the Lakers posts from NBA media. God I hate NBA media, and the Lakers for that matter. Fuck the Lakers.
