How realistic is this? Jokic and Luka are really good friends. If things don’t work out in the playoffs, could it be possible to attempt?

I have had this thought, but itā€™s gonna cost us everything. Murray, MPJ, and whatever draft capital, probably 1 of Braun/Watson/Zeke

  2. landlion35

I would hate Luka here. Super unlikable and would probably destroy jokic ball.

  3. big_hon3y

Itā€™s interesting to think about. But I dunno how much better weā€™d get. Weā€™d have the worst defense ever lol. And Luka needs the ball in his hands a lot, which canibalizes Jokics touches. But itā€™s Luka and heā€™s amazing. So I dunno.

  4. wecouldknowthetruth

If you had Jokic and Doncic on a team, the other 3 starters would need to be strictly 3 and D types.

The “im gonna cream” lineup excluding other superstars would be something like..

    Jokic/ OG Anunoby/ Dort/KCP/Doncic, something like that.

Jokic already isnā€™t the greatest defender and Luka is worse than Murray. We would have to give up the farm for him and I donā€™t think weā€™d be better off for it.

  6. djred532

Mavs would almost certainly want MPJ and Murray for Luka. Jokic/Doncic defensive pairing would be a shitshow IMO and the team would have to put up 130+ to get a W.

  7. buddybe1

Weā€™d probably end up like this years Mavs and end up missing the playoffs because we traded everyone away

  8. murrayforthree

Would still rather keep Murray, MPJ and the extra young guy to throw in than 1 Doncic and a pick.

Idk if they would mesh as well as what we built either..

  9. cyrusthemarginal

Nah, too expensive. Only way would be in a few years when he burns through another team and is maybe ready to take a pay cut to play with his buddy and get a ring.

Itā€™s nice to think about but would lead to the Nuggets needing to shell out massively in players and assets to get Luka. Fit is a question, in terms of Luka not really being the best without the ball in his hands and not being a good perimeter defender. Nuggets defensive woes would become even more pronounced.

I understand the fear of losing Murray, MPJ, 1sts and a good young player. I also think Luka has top 15 all time potential and typically you’d trade the proverbial farm for a chance at him.

If Jokic is the MVP we all know he is, then he would raise the level of all of our role players. Plus, Denver would be an extremely attractive FA destination for 3&D guys, which is exactly what we’d need.

I think if you have a chance to pair two of the best to ever do it, in their primes (granted Luka probably hasn’t reached his prime), then you have to try.

Iā€™m sorry but thatā€™s a terrible fit and that duo wouldnā€™t have any playoff success. Defense is king in the playoffs. Whatever co star is next to Jokic has to be an elite two way player, preferably one who can defend the rim.

From a basketball standpoint the Luka and Jokic pick and roll would be unstoppable. Surround them with shooters. Best nba offense. The defense would be rough. Malone would have to hammer Luka into playing defense. And have guys like KCP and Watson. I don’t see it happening tho.

How credible is the guy who tweeted this?

  15. gregorious54

As amazing as this would be offensively, I don’t think it makes a ton of sense. Jokic and Luka are both best used as offensive hubs – surrounding them with even decent players turns you into a solid offense. Having Luka and Jokic off ball substantially more, as would happen if they teamed up, isn’t a great idea for optimizing what you do, as they are both solid but not elite catch and shoot players, and some of their talent might be left on the table, while defense suffers.

Obviously it would be amazing to have him, but for the cost (everything imaginable) I have to imagine there would be a player that’s a better fit, particularly that would raise the defense.

That being said, a Luka-Jokic pick and roll in crunch time would be the greatest thing of all time, so what do I know

  16. SpliffsnKicks

Luka hasnā€™t even shown that he can play off, or even want to play off the ballā€¦ I donā€™t think this is the fit that people are making it out to be

  17. Captaincoolbeans

Look I love Jamal but unless the package we would have to give up is absurd, then Luka would be so worth it. I honestly dream about having those two together. I feel like a lot of people here are VERY severely over valuing Jamal

  18. YummyYumYumi

Doncic, Jokic, Watson, Braun, Kamagate lineup gonna be so hard

  19. Frankalicious47

I donā€™t want Doncic and donā€™t think he style goes well with Jokic at all

  20. WatersZephyr

In a scenario where we have Luka, Jokic, and MPJ (which is doubtful, but I would hope Booth can make a deal where he can keep him. If he could keep Gordon as well, even fucking better) I donā€™t see this teaming losing a championships.

You got playmakers/scorers in both Luka and Jokic. MPJ just needs to focus on being a consistent and deadly scoring threat. Then Gordon (if we keep him) and KCP (maybe Watson if he makes the jump, or Braun if we retain him and he makes the jump) as the defensive 2 guard.

    Thatā€™s nasty as hell.

  21. SongYoungbae

Ofcourse it could be possible, look at all the dudes that have been traded in the last few years. Some multiple times.

  22. Unl1ke_Br0adsterdam

What if Zeppelin and Floyd teamed up with Beatles and Stones, would that be the best rock supergroup? Is it realistic?

  23. Also just so weā€™re clear on this, Murray and MPJ canā€™t be traded away together due to both still being on max rookie contract extensions so that would make it that much harder to work out

  24. LACIRCA2044

I honestly think they would great for each other. Jokic would clearly be the big brother, calming Luka and teaching him to be a better teammate. And Lukaā€™s intensity would be good for Jokic. And they would naturally be competitive with eachother in a good way. But also this team has like a 30% chance to the win the title and restarting an entire new team around them would take time. Iā€™d rather just fire Malone and get Nick Nurse.

  25. SuperDoubleDecker

Luka and Jokic are too similar. You don’t ever need both. Joker is better than Luka from deep and in the passing game. So idk wtd Luka would be with Joker. He’s not an amazing scoring guard and doesn’t play D.
