Thank the basketball gods!
That is great news
At 140%, as an extension, that’s $29M the first year. The 120% extension he turned down would have been $25M the first year.
Grant’s cap hold is $31M, for a new contract. Limited UFA Bird rights should be up to 175%, or $37M the first year.
He’s got nine years of service now, so he qualifies for up to a full 35% of cap max, $47M. A team would have to have $37M+ of cap room, to pay him more than POR the first year. A new team could only offer four years, POR can offer five.
With 8% max raises:
Max Cap Team: $47M, $51M, $55M, $60M = $213M.
Max POR Offer: $37M, $40M, $43M, $47M, $50M = $217M.
Nobody can “out bid” POR for more total guaranteed money.
Good. Losing him for nothing would have been a disaster
I was hesitant to want to get Grant last season because I knew they would have to pay him. Nothing I saw last year makes really changed my mind.
He’s nice, but I don’t know if he’s with what he’s about to get paid
Chance Comanche is so below radar he didn’t have a Basketball Reference page
A “big 3” of Dame, and any combination of nurk, grant, Simons, and/or Sharpe, is not an actual contender. This is either incompetence or willful ignorance to suggest otherwise.
