Have the Pelicans mishandled the messaging around Zion Williamson’s injury? What is going on?

With a new report that Zion Williamson is “not even close” to playing for the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Playoffs, Jake Madison asks if the Pels have mishandled this whole situation around Zion’s injured hamstring. Why are these leaks suddenly happening now? And does Zion need to speak to the media and fans or would that make things worse?

  1. If Zion wants to play and for the second straight year the Pels hold him out of the post season I wouldn’t be angry at him for asking for a trade.

  2. Done with Zion. Until he actually plays a season two. They showed him dunking which if he is hurt he shouldn't be doing. he's good but good ain't good enough if your hurt all the time.

  3. Bro sorry the fact that they were reevaluating him every two weeks led to the expectations….wasn't a fan thing

  4. Jake, this is like a bad dream. I hope the leak isn't true. They have created a real 💩 storm…maybe the medical staff needs to be replaced 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

  5. I understand the reason why but man I wish he could start and get some post season time. Zion is a 1 in a million talent you have to treat him that way and be cautious

  6. I feel like it's a lose lose scenario if Zion comes out and talks about this situation – if he says he isn't ready you'll have fans whining saying he's fat, unmotivated, lazy, using the Pelicans for a check and wanting his booty traded, if he says he's ready it'll cause more of a rift and discomfort within the fanbase and franchise further making this org look incompetent. I just wished the fans would focus on the bigger issues at bay playoff basketball, and i wished the Pelicans would finally get lucky with injuries

  7. at this point man it feels like the only way we get Zion in the playoffs is if we dont let him play in the regular season

  8. People are already calling him names. Who gives a ****. How much worse can the situation get. He’s already viewed in a certain light for missing this much time. An interview wouldn’t make people view him any differently than they already do

  9. I think they protecting their investment at this point.. The max contract don’t kick until the off-season.. The organization don’t want him to get hurt before all that money kick in.. Just my thought

  10. Come on. It’s an athlete’s responsibility to stay in condition to be able to perform to an elite level when he gets paid like an elite performer. Over the past few years the most obvious examples of highly paid pro athletes athletes getting paid then refusing to condition themselves to get onto the field or court with relatively minor phantom injuries, or simply refusing to play, are Anthony Davis, Michael Thomas, Ben Simmons and Zion Williamson. Three of the top four in the Malingers Hall of Fame are home grown in the Big Easy. My guess is we will have another Michael Thomas sighting and a few cryptic tweets this fall, but it will be fleeting before he packs it in with yet another bobo while the organization spits up more BS to cover for their mistake. Same with Zion. To feel shame you first have to believe in accountability. That comes from the top down.

  11. Jake, just a few weeks ago, I heard Antonio Daniels say (on another podcast) Zion was working his tail off to get back on the court. That everything he saw indicated Zion was doing everything possible to stay in shape and get back to playing ball. I know unforeseen things can happen, but was AD not telling the truth? Somebody/some people are not telling the truth and it’s annoying!

  12. Honestly, I couldn't agree more. The fanbase has been so toxic lately because of all the uncertainty and these new leaks have just been throwing more gas on an inferno. I don't see much of way this gets resolved cleanly unless we just win out in Play-In, win the first round, and then Zion gets back by the second round 😅

Iss gonna be ugly for a long while, and it sucks.

  13. This stuff about when he'll play is created by people outside of the room. It doesn't sound like Zion has medical clearance. That's what continuing rehab sounds like to me. When he gets medical clearance, Zion and the coaching staff + management will agree on his readiness to play. Then, I'm sure he'll play.

  14. So I don't think I have heard, was it a grade 1,2,3 on the hamstring injury? Did he really tear a muscle? I didn't think so. It has been plenty of time to have healed. He supposed had the best docs. This should have been done with this. If he was so bad, he should have had surgery to be out this long. I figured the Pels didn't want to pay him till next year with the prices going up and parking doubling. I work in surgery, if he was that bad to be out so long, he should've had surgery.

  15. I think it's annoying mostly because we're getting constant contradictory statements that don't really add up. We've heard AD say that he's been working really hard in his rehab, I believe it was Chris Haynes who said he had a rigorous workout where his explosiveness was looking there, and weeks later he's somehow not even close? So far away from being conditioned enough that we don't even know if he'll play IF we make it to the first round? I'm pretty sure we've seen him play in worse physical shape than he is in right now. The conditioning part really doesn't make much sense to me. If it was still just the hamstring, it'd be frustrating, but I'd understand, but this is just so confusing. Just come out clean with it at this point. Is it him not feeling ready, is the hamstring not healed yet, is his conditioning really THAT bad, or is the team just being overly cautious? Maybe it's all of them who knows lol

  16. I agreee Jake, but at the same time you have to take into account we have been getting 2-4 weeks of updates about Zion since January-_-. Thats is a unusually long time for a hamstring injury to heal. Everyone body heals in different ways but why would you let Zion work out on court pregame before the Nuggets game. Why tease us ? What gain are they getting out of this ?

  17. Zion needs to speak his truth,a man should be able to make his own choices and not have other people make choices for him because they feel like he's there property
