Mavs fans were divided last night with one side hoping to win and get closer to the playoffs & the other side hoping to lose and get closer to that 10th draft pick. RJ did a draft study to evaluate the 10th pick & whether it’s worth tanking for it.

  1. Dallas CAN'T keep punting on the draft because at this time it's clear they can't attract free agents and trades require value from both sides. This organization is going to have to prioritize developing home grown talent. Brunson and Hardy are 2nd round picks, so it's clear that legitimate talent can be found anywhere in the draft if you take it seriously. Building around Luka and Kyrie is the goal and there are plenty of solid upperclassmen with high basketball IQs in the late 1st and 2nd round. They become some of the best role players in the league.

  2. Mark Cuban needs to sell the team. He is a cheap and a phony. This is shark tank.

  3. Mavericks can't attract big time Free Agents. So the Draft is the key to rebuilding for them. (Not to mention, their trades have been below average)

  4. I'm with RJ. The NBA like soccer is pretty much a waste of time. The playoffs are marginally better. I have hockey so I really never miss the NBA.

  5. If they are a top 10 they have a substantially higher chance to move up in the draft and they need to get younger with more talent. Y’all realize outside of KP, Kyrie & Josh Green those are the only guys Luka has ever played with that were 1st round picks the rest have been 2nd round picks and undrafted players. You gotta build through the draft it’s so dam dumb to think you can just ignore the draft it’s what’s gotten them here in this spot right now and jumping the gun on stupid ass trades. This team would’ve been way better off if they didn’t trade for KP and Kyrie instead drafted a player every year since 2018 that’s 8 players they could’ve drafted and 2 more this season.

  6. How you got a guy talking about basketball when he clearly said he don’t like basketball 🏀 pure comedy 🤣🤣

  7. This is such a simplistic way to look at it. You should have taken a look at available players between 10th and 15th, or even 10th and 30th. If you do that, you have these players from the last 20 years.

    2004 – no one good
    2005: Andrew Bynum, Danny Granger
2006: Rajon Rondo, Kyle Lowry, JJ Reddick
2007: Thad Young (what a terrible class, LOL)
    2008: Brook Lopez, Serge Ibaka
    2009: Jrue Holiday
    2010: Paul George
2011: Klay, Kawhi, Vucevic, Tobias Harris, Jimmy Butler (crazy class)
2012: Draymond, Kris Middleton (yes, they were 2nd round picks)
2013: Steven Adams, Giannis (Donnie begged Cuban to draft him)
    Gobert
    2014: Zach LaVine
    2015: Miles Turner, Devin Booker
2016: Domas Sabonis, Malik Beasley, Pascal Siakam
2017: Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo (at 13th and 14th, crazy!), Jarrett Allen
    2018: Shai, MPJ, Huerter
    2019: Cam Johnson, Herro
2020: Haliburton, Josh Green (decent season, will turn out to be a good pick), Quickley, who's gonna win 6th man, Desmond Bane
2021 and onward: young guys still developing, we don't know much yet.

So, that's 10 players who are either already been All-Stars or could be one one day, then 14 future hall of famers, who I DID NOT COUNT as all-stars. So that's 19 all-star or hall of famer selected in the range that the Mavs could be picking, looking at 17 drafts (because we don't know much about the 2021, 2022 ones yet). That's more than 1 guy per year on average who is either an All-Star or even a future hall of famer. And even if you say well some of those hall of fame prospects (like 3-time all-star Sabonis, or young budding superstar Shai will not make the HOF), well, they still gonna count as All-Stars, so that average does not change. AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN TALKED ABOUT THE 13 SUPER ROLE PLAYERS FROM THE LIST. Conclusion, a 10 to 30 range draft pick is extremely valuable, and you almost always have the chance to draft a future All-Star, and surprisingly often to even draft a future hall of famer.

  8. I don't understand meathead RJ's point here. So Dallas should absolutely give up on a 10% chance at getting a Paul George or CJ so they can get bounced in the 1st round?

Seriously, this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. "We've only got a limited time with Luka so we should waste ANY chance at making the team better for him". What kind of logic is that?
