FIRST THINGS FIRST | Nick Wright reacts to Giannis: “I believes the last 5 years, I’ve been MVP”

  1. I love how media is trna dismiss Kobe and the reason why the league would never consider him MVP when he CLEARLY was the best player from 03-2010. If ur old enough u remember what was going on. He got one and shouldve gotten 4 more. The list had Tim Duncan as the league best from 02-07 which COMPLETE BULLSHIT. NOBODY….NOT ONE PERSON BACK THEN EVER SAID TIM WAS THE BEST….why is media trna change and rewrite history….Every player including Lebron said Kobe was the best person and MOST CLUTCH. GTFO

  2. Man look the best player on the best team should always get it….Nick trna give out sympathy trophies and shit

  3. Giannis is considered the best player in the game not only because of his regular season dominance, but he’s proven it in the playoffs. That’s why MVP and “best player” are 2 different things. While I agree Giannis is better than Embiid, THIS REGULAR SEASON, Joel Embiid was the singularly best player in the sport. MVP is a regular season award and Joel was the best player this year. If he does the same thing in the playoffs, and then advances deep etc etc then maybe best player, but he had the best regular season this year.

  4. The man only won 2!! He deserves to speak up and advocate for himself after the media has continually ignored him all season, and last season. He deserves a 3rd at least with iconic numbers this year!

  5. It's insane to think that it should get harder each time a player is up for MVP.

First, it's only a measure of that season. That's its purpose. That should be what goes into the voting. It. Is. Not. A. Measure. Against. Previous. Seasons. That's what awards like most improved player are for.

Second, let's say a player avgs 30 12 9 & wins their first MVP. In the next following four seasons, they avg the same. Each season, no one puts up better numbers. But, one player each season increases their avgs each season from 20 7 7 to 27 10 8 over the same period. And, assume that the first player's advanced metric are overall better than the second player, but does not mean they win out every single category. Just the majority overall. Under the guidance of Nick & Brou, they'd likely vote for the second player over the first player at some point over those five years even if the second player never surpasses the first player because they are making it harder for the clearly better player to win the award each time. Sure, the first player never increased their numbers, but they were still putting up the best numbers each of those seasons. It doesn't make sense at all.

When Jokic fell off a bit at the end of the season, Giannis should've become the front runner for MVP. His team has the best record in the NBA. He led them to that missing out on a healthy Middleton for a lot of it. And, he has been consistently great. I don't think the award should just be given to the best player on the best team. But, it should mean something. And Giannis's numbers are great.

  6. "Voter fatigue" is invented by fanboys of MJ and LeBron, who both won the correct number of MVPs.
In 1993, Barkley moved to the Suns and propelled them to the best record in the league. Bulls dropped from league best 67 wins to 57, three fewer than the Knicks. Barkley deserved the MVP in 93.
In 1997, MJ arguably deserved the MVP over Malone, but in 1998 Malone (27/10.3/3.9, .530 FG%, 16.4 WS, 16 net RTG) had better numbers than MJ (28.7/5.8/3.5, .465 FG%, 15.8 WS, 14 net RTG), and the Jazz finished with the same record as the Bulls, but they gave the MVP to MJ (compensation for having given it to Malone the year before?)
LeBron also won the correct number of MVPs.
In 2011, LeBron goes from Cavs to Heat, who improve to 58-24 from 47-35 the year before. Whereas Rose was 20.8 / 6 / 3.8 in 2010 when Bulls were 41-41, but in 2011 improved to 25 / 7.7 / 4.1 , most points and assists on the team, and the Bulls had the best record in the league. LeBron (26.7 PPG) was playing with Wade (25.5 PPG) and Bosh (18.7 PPG). Second and third scorers on the Bulls were Carlos Boozer (17.5 PPG) and Luol Deng (17.4 PPG). No offense to LeBron, but Rose was clearly the MVP.
Similar story in 2018. Harden was the best player on the best team, he deserved the MVP.

  7. MVP voting is broken. Narratives and who hasn’t won or who’s won two in an row… none of that should matter. It should simply be who had the best regular season. That’s it.

  8. I kind of agree with Nick..if Rose for example didn’t win the 2011 MVP the story of the league changes slightly 😭

  9. Mvp is best player with the top numbers on the best team in the league. Simple!!!! I feel giannis on that

  10. Embiid is not the MVP period, Giannis is. What bc hes averaged the most ppg?? Hes finished 3rd in his own conference, he has more talent around him than Giannis. Lastly all the crying hes done about not winning MVP should automatically turn voters off from him. Shouldnt you be more concernced with getti g past the 2nd round of the playoffs than in a TEAM sport than winning a regular season individual award???

  11. So..give out MVPs to other players…essentially to spread the love….so mvp participation trophies

  12. I do agree it should be harder as you stack them up , but maybe After Gianni's 3rd MVP if he didn't win a chip. he's proven himself , plays better than his 2 previous MVP campaigns and the team record is at the top. Maybe not 5 but the man definitely should have his 3rd MVP by now

  13. It's not clear cut that Giannis is the best player in the nba. Outside of that one run what has really done? Let's be honest now.

  14. GIANNIS WAS THE MOST CONSISTENT THIS YEAR AND KEPT UP WITH BOTH OF THEM ALL YEAR (JOKIC AND EMBIid) WHEN JOKIC WAS IMPRESSING HALF THE SEASON GIANNIS WAS GETTING 50 POINT GAMES AND 20 REBOUND GAMES. EMBIID CANT TOUCH GIANNIS ON DEFENSE. MY PICK IS GIANNIS BC JOKIC LET THE MEDIA GET TO HIS HEAD AND FELL OUT THE RACE WHILE EMBIID DUCKED SMOKE BY HIS OWN BOWING OUT OR DOCS DECISION. GIANNIS IS THE REAL MVP AND HE WILL WIN IT ..BRU DOESNT KNOW SHIT HE HAS NO CREDIBILITY ANY MORE HE WAS COOL 15 YEARS AGO

  15. Kobe got no love at all. Imagine mentioning MJ and Bron without including Kobe. I watched Kobe, and I know he should be up there

  16. It felt like MJ and LBJ should have won like 5 or 6 straight. Giannis? He great , but he has not dominated league at that level

  17. Giannis should have 3 MVPs and jokic 1 but they robbed Giannis of 1 now they are going to give Embiid a Pity MVP, Embiid is 3rd in the East . GIANNIS HAS THE BEST RECORD IN THE NBA

  18. MJ and Shaq should have won 5 map straight real talk..They given these white boys multiple MVPS

  19. MVP has almost always been given to the player the league wants to up-lift. Do you seriously think MJ was not the MVP every year he played? Of course he was but the league felt sorry for the lower tier. Same ole stuff today. . .

  20. M.j was the best player in 87(maybe), 88, 89, 90…but his team was bad. He had a strong m.v.p. case

  21. Wiles says he would give it to the best player, the "issue" with that is that could be about 7 or 8 guys. It shouldn't even be limited to three. So giving it to the best player doesn't make it any easier to choose.

  22. He lucky KD foot was on the line in brroklyn ✌️✌️✌️

  23. NBA MVP voting discussions are a JOKE! Mike Trout has won multiple MVP awards, never won a damn thing. Aaron Rodgers wins 2 MVPs even though he hasn't won a championship since 2010. Voter fatigue is stupid–if the best player is the best player 5 years in a row, then he should win it 5 years in a row. Previous playoff success is idiotic–because the MVP is a regular season award. Give it to the best player in the regular season, and anybody who whines that they should get it (looking at you Joel Embiid) is just plain soft.
