Pistons Coaching Candidates After Dwane Casey Moves To Front Office Role

Pistons coach Dwane Casey is done as coach of the organization and will be moving to the front office, he announced Sunday after the team’s 103-81 loss to Chicago. The loss finishes the Pistons’ season with a record of 17-65, their second-most losses in a season in franchise history. Casey compiled a 121-263 record with Detroit. Since their last playoff appearance in 2018-19 — Casey’s first with the Pistons — Detroit has the NBA’s worst winning percentage (.266). Prior to Detroit, Casey won Coach of the Year with the Raptors in 2017-18 and led Toronto to led three straight 50-win seasons.

  1. No to Mark Jackson. Not an X’s & O’s type of coach. I saw him 1st hand in the Bay. Great motivator, not an X’s & O’s. Def not Ime Udoka. Dude has no integrity, morals or values. He is the worst guy to lead a young team full of great character. I say go for Warriors assistant Kenny Atkins or my guy Jerry Stackhouse. If not then, try for Jay Wright. If not him, go for the Bucks assistant coach.

  2. Charles Lee makes a lot of sense. But he just got promoted to Associate Head Coach before the season.

If Budenholzer steps down. He is next up.

The Grizzlies Assistant Coach (I think McClure is his name) would be a good fit too.

  3. If we don’t hire Udoka that would just be a huge disappointment. Udoka is the ONLY candidate that would be the best fit for this young core. Pistons MUST make that happen.

  4. Jay Wright would be a phenomenal head coach. If he wants to coach again he should the front runner

  5. The Pistons are a very young Team with a lot of 1,2,3 year kids on the roster. A 1st yr Coach won’t be a good idea with this core group. Ime is the Best Fit because he has Coaching experience as a Head Coach with a proven record

  6. Please let it be udoka. He made a mistake yes but he's a coach who's respected by players when it comes to x's and o's. We need our guys to truly believe in their coaches choices. And i know they'd agree with the choice Udoka makes with x's and o's

  7. I figure the next Pistons Coach will be familiar with the SYSTEM Coach Casey installed. Ought to be anyway. Rex Kalamian, our G League Coach, or Sean Sweeney.
I'll bet the Pistons have a very short list of familiar names.

  8. the only two coaches i would want coaching the pistons is jerry stackhouse or rasheed wallace.. i think you give the restoration more credence and give the culture a boost with a former piston coaching the team i think stackhouse has proven he can coach young players.. jerry loves the city of detroit im sure if he got a phone call from tom, jerry would clear is schedule to meet with him. jerry will get the team to the play-in his first season as coach i feel it

  9. Ex players do not always make good coaches. Hire the person who is a good fit within the organizational/team structure.
