Personally, I do. But the way we treated him, I wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t want to come back. It was a huge mistake trading for Poeltl imo since we weren’t ever going to be contenders, we gave up a 1st for him, and because it relegated GTJ to the bench. Idk why the FO insisted on building around non-superstars in FVV and Pascal. If we could somehow work out a sign and trade for FVV and trade Siakam and re-sign Trent, I feel that would be what’s best for the franchise.

4/75 is probably the max I’d want them to offer.

  3. Maya-Inca-Boy

For cheap. Thank god everyone stopped hyping this guy up though.

  4. SkepticalHitchhiker

Assets are valuable. Acquire or keep them. Then make trades.

I have learned this from years of gaming, so it must be true

  5. Yes. If only to be able to trade him later. Don’t let assets go for nothing.

  6. AngryHelicopter

Yes, for a reasonable price, because I don’t want the team to lose him for nothing. I’ve never been that high on him, though, and his play this year didn’t change my mind. Character-wise, I was impressed by the way he handled getting moved to the bench.

  7. Hazelwood38

Depends on the price tag. Definately not a $20m per, or a 5/6 year deal.

  8. Honestly, I don’t see anything in GTJ game that suggests he is a star.

Fact is there was little interest for him at the trade deadline.

Teams see him as a high volume shooter with low FG% (43%) league average 3pt shooter, does not provide impact in playmaking or rebounding, his man to man def is avg at best, gambles on steals often which can/does create defensive holes that others have to cover.

Would rather not re-sign him but Raps do need shooting so can understand keeping him on a friendly deal.

It depends on a lot of factors. If this is a teardown rebuild then no. If we get Shaedon Sharpe in a trade/some other major shooting guard prospect then no. If he wants a giant contract then no. Otherwise yes I think he is a good player and valuable.

we dont have a choice tbh and I think Gary’s agent knows that too tbh. We have no other path towards improving and adding on to the team, maybe you can draft a guard and use him to replace Gary but that still doesn’t fix the depth and the fact that you will lose around 20-23 mill that you cant use anywhere else. He is also one of few shooters and creators on this team so if you lose him, you are getting worse

I used too then i realized he picks and chooses when he wants to perform well. Why the hell should he get paid? He was no where to be seen in the play in tournament. I’m over the GTJ experiment.

  12. peroper7

Yes he can play, I think it would be great if he took
    The player option

People seem to forget that his first contract with the raptors was expensive. He was a talented second rounder playing behind really good guards in Portland when the raptors grabbed him.

If he takes that player option it’s 18m, I don’t see anyone giving him any more than that in free agency tbh

  13. FlavourDavid

I would want him back for sure, I’m nervous about what kind of contract he could get but the guy’s a bucket. I guess it depends on if we plan on getting a bench playmaker/ getting him back into the starting lineup whether well just be waisting his skillset but I like him and his Chemistry with Scottie

  14. Ecstatic-Buy-2907

20M seems fair, as long as he doesn’t turn into Duncan Robinson it’ll be a deal that will make him a valuable trade asset later on

I wouldn’t mind a shorter deal for 25M/two years, as the smaller deal makes his contract more valuable to teams

Either way, we should try to keep him even if it means a slight overpay. Just nothing over 25M

  15. jjkiller26

I dont, but i dont think we have a choice

  16. wrinklyowl

For less than 20 mil/year sure. Anything over and he can go. Draft a SG regardless if he stays or goes

  17. gamer-at-heart-23

Assuming we keep Poetle, a sign and trade needs to happen with either Freddy or Trent.

  18. TreChomes

Honestly I don’t even care anymore. I don’t see him as a long term piece here but he could be an alright trade chip.

This guy hasn’t added anything into his game since he got here, to me that’s a red flag.

  19. Ok_Avocado8815

Remember when ppl here used to fawn over his defense because of his steal numbers. Good times

  20. AudiSlav

Saw him here in DC vs the wizards and he slaughtered them with mid range jumpers, I love the guy but he’s very inconsistent

  21. IcyOrdinary1

No, he is a 6th man at best on a title contending team. The front office backed themselves in a corner by not dealing him and FVV at the deadline. We’ll see what they do.

  22. drewtheblueduck

When Gary’s shot is going on I absolutely love him. When it isn’t, it’s a frustrating experience.

I know if he leaves, he’s going to go off somewhere else. I’d like to keep him if the price is right, he fits with our team timeline

  23. Live-Secretary-852

Rather resign him than Fred to be honest.

  24. If Fred goes then yes. Hopefully not for too much.

  25. redditistheworstapp

He seems checked out with the Raps probably takes a deal somewhere else. God I wanted him to be our deadly go get us a bucket guy so badly

  26. No_Fence

Let him walk. Rip someone off in a S&T if you can. But please, just get him out of here.

GTJ was a huge reason we were so terrible this year, but for some reason people want to give him 20M. Absurd. Let’s look at his resume:

    * His ORTG was second-worst among rotation players.
    * His DRTG was also the second-worst among rotation players.
    * His NetRTG was (you guessed it) worst among rotation players.
    * He was targeted HARD by the 76ers in the playoffs last year.
    * He doesn’t fit into vision 6’9.
    * His AST% is ridiculously low for an SG. It’s in the bottom 10% of all guards. The dude doesn’t pass, and was a big reason our offense was so stagnant all year.
    * Never cheers on his teammates, seems entirely self-absorbed. I don’t know what happened with our chemistry this year, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t _help_.
    * Lowest REB% in the rotation.
    * Doesn’t attack the basket or get FTs.
    * With all that, you’d think he could at least shoot efficiently, right? …nope, below-average TS% on the team despite never creating for anyone else.

Someone will be enamored with his shooting and “potential” and give him way, way more than he’s worth. I know we need shooting, but he’s _been_ that shooter and he’s still a net negative, somehow. Dude just doesn’t play winning basketball.

Cut losses and move on. Anything else would be a huge mistake.

  27. Rapsfan_98

At like 17 mil per year sure. Dude is not worth 20+ mil. Not even close

  28. KratosSmash

No. Too unreliable and is expecting a big pay day
