Former Warrior Matt Barnes responds to JJ: “Game 1 Fouls called on the Warriors 25. Fouls called on the kings 23. Game 2 Fouls called on the warriors 26. Fouls called on the kings 25. Kings have just wanted it more in these first two games. The kings are the reason they’re up 2-0 not the refs”

I love how basically the entire world minus the big media and Warriors fans are rooting for the Kings lol

    Get the job done fellas

  2. _Pho-Dac-Biet_

Why does the title say former Warrior but not former King as well?

  3. DrPagliacci

I haven’t watched this series so I don’t know who’s right or wrong here, but number of fouls isn’t the best way to analyze this. If the Kings were fouling twice as much and they ended up with the same number called, obviously that’s not good.

  4. ImeStopPlayingDennis

Matt Barnes played for the kings too and does commentary work for them as a big caveat

    But he’s right 100%

  5. MikeConleyIsLegend

never forget when matt barnes shot a half court game winner with 4 seconds left because he thought there was no time

  6. Aggressive-Ad-756

I’m not saying the kings are getting help, but there are certain fouls that change the outcome of a game. That’s not something you can measure by number of fouls

  7. ShoutOutTo_Caboose

Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is.

  8. SliMShady55222

Matt Barnes isnt employed by ESPN, so he’s cool

  9. RageOnGoneDo

CAN WE PLEASE STOP USING RAW FOUL NUMBERS TO TALK ABOUT REF FAIRNESS

  10. xpillindaass

matt barnes likes the kings more than the warriors even tho he won a chip with gs. you love to see it

I agree with Matt in a sense but foul totals don’t mean anything. You can call 4 fouls at the end of the game when the game is already over. It’s all about timing.

Like there should have been a foul call on Sabonis for pushing Looney in the back at the end of game 2.

Instead, no call and The Kings go up 3 points with less than a minute to go.

If anyone is more deserving of free throws, it’s Curry. Watch him and only him off ball for a few possessions in a row. Dude is absolutely mauled. And yet Trae Young gets a better whistle than him. And the fact that it’s been going on for years is crazy. And guys like Richard Jefferson (who played for The Cavs championship team) and JJ Redick can see it, sort of speaks volumes

While we’re sharing fun facts about Matt Barnes – he has a partnership with a local weed company out in Sac, and they’ve made pre-rolls called Light the Beam. Allegedly he’s handed some out on gameday to fans.

  15. -Hoopin-

The warriors can’t just hack the kings because they aren’t able to stay in front of them then blame the refs. Everyone in the game thread including warriors fans are commenting how the kings look faster then the warriors. When playing basketball and you can’t stay in front of your man you usually foul to prevent the play. It’s happening in front of our eyes. Saying the refs are the reason why your losing is just being a sore loser.

  16. ImpossibleCategory

the whole ‘team wanted it more’ is so dumb and cringe

the kings were just flat out better

  17. Gaius_Octavius_

Classic Seahawks method of “They can’t call a penalty on every play”.

How many fours are they NOT calling?

  18. Hrothgar822

Anyone pointing solely to fouls as to the reason why the Kings are winning so far haven’t watched the games. They’re outplaying and out hustling the warriors. I’m hoping the Dubs bounce back but the Kings have certainly looked like the better team through two games.

  19. Sartheking

Didn’t JJ reclarify his stance on the series. Either way Matt is absolutely right, I haven’t really noticed the refs at all in this series which is how it should be.

  20. Blackmalico32

Who the hell is this guy saying “stop lighting the beam?”

  21. scumbag_shovel

In game two, dubs couldn’t get an easy bucket compared to Kings. When kings was on offense, fox/monk just slice through the defense. The Kings wins are well deserved wins.

  22. czechm800

Okay I’ll bite and add some context to these stats. Warriors have been called for 51 fouls to the Kings’ 48, a 3 FT discrepancy.

Through the playoffs so far, the Kings are driving to the basket 54 times/game (good for 1st in the league). The Warriors are driving to the basket 30 times/game (the fewest drives per game in the playoffs). You would generally expect the team who drives to the rim more to get fouled more, and the Kings have driven the MOST in the postseason while the Warriors have driven the LEAST.

So far in the postseason the Warriors have taken 52.3% of their shots from 3, while the Kings take only 36.8% of their shots from 3. On average, players are fouled more commonly when driving to the rim/shooting in the midrange/scoring in the pain than they are when shooting 3s. The Warriors have shot significantly more 3s than the Kings, and so it makes sense that the Kings are getting fouled more.

Finally, looking at Free Throw stats from the regular season also provides context to the whopping 3 more fouls called against the Warriors. In the regular season , the Warriors committed the 3rd most personal fouls per game in the entire league, while Sacramento committed the 11th fewest per game. Additionally, the Kings shot 25.1 FTA per game, while the Warriors shot the fewest FTAs in the NBA (20.2).

When you actually look at it, it turns out that it’s much more logical that the Kings have taken more Free Throws since they attack the rim more and shoot less threes in the playoffs, and also fouled less and shot more FTA’s than the Warriors over a large 82 game sample size.

But please, continue telling me that the Kings are dirty and that the refs are calling things unfairly in our favor.

  23. fattyfondler

Thank you for highlighting “I coulda been your dad” lmao

  24. ATLKing123

“They want it more” is always used by dumbasses lmao

  25. fedaralala

Well Matt, JJ is talking about what the Kings are getting away with on top of the fouls called. But good shit being able to count the fouls of both teams.

  26. pabloescobarbecue

My biggest takeaway from this post is that there’s actually an analyst out there saying they shouldn’t light the beam.

  27. imprettyglonky

Just comparing the number of fouls seems a bit disingenuous.
The Kings committed one fewer foul but also shot 11 more FTs in game 2.

Regardless, he’s right. The refs aren’t losing the Warriors games. It’s the careless TOs and bricked 3s that are continually sinking them against a younger and faster Kings team.

  28. walito26

He’s also from the area. Barnes isn’t lame for defending his home team with an actual logical argument

  29. country2poplarbeef

Seriously, tho. Who tf was that clown?

  30. both former Clippers too lmao JJ > Barnes but Barnes got a point

  31. DirtyMoneyJesus

There’s no fuckery going on here, kings are just the better team

  32. DoeSeeDoe123

The Warriors are so unlikable and their fans are the usual bandwagon dick riders that love Bama, Pats w/ Brady/Chiefs, Astros etc.

  33. risingthermal

Golden State averaged the fewest FTs per game this season while Sacramento averaged the fifth most. Unless you’re one of those folks who think free throws are just who the refs personally prefer more, it’s pretty clear one of these teams is just much better at generating foul calls.

  34. redshorts9112

Warriors fans keep crying about fouls and fts but don’t realize that the kings have more shots up and took less threes in both games. They attacked the paint, that’s how you get fts

  35. MaizeNBlueWaffle

I hate the “this team had this many fouls and this team had this many fouls so therefore the officiating couldn’t have been bad” argument so much

  36. IndignantHoot

The people who have actually watched this series know that the refs have been pretty fair overall. Either side can cherry pick moments and point to uncalled fouls, but there’s been nothing really that egregious or momentum shifting aside from Draymond stomping on Sabonis’ chest, for which he was rightfully ejected.

Unfortunately, all this faux outrage is likely going to have an impact on tonight’s game. I’m expecting Sabonis to foul out and the Warriors to squeak by with a victory.

  37. TanTanMan

Hahaha that warriors guy is so mad about the beam lol

  38. Warriors just always have an excuse for everything or a double standard. Refs fault, Draymond is innocent, the Kings are too physical blah blah blah. 2 more games are this circus will be over.

  39. LukaDoncicfuturegoat

My love for Matt Barnes is growing, dunno why I’ve always like him in his Lakers days prolly due to 2k on mobile lol

  40. While the fouls are even, I would also like Barnes to point out where the Warriors got away with some calls- like JJ pointed out with the Kings. Having a close to equal free throw differential doesn’t necessarily mean the series is officiated fairly.

  41. sarmatron

you don’t have to post every single take you see. you can just scroll past sometimes.

  42. ObviousAnswerGuy

I remember when this sub had highlights on the front page

  43. algorithmresistant

Kings in the bonus 90 seconds into a quarter

Malik monk double the fta on half the shots compared to curry

If you watch the games the kings had the ref advantage first two games. Probably due to the home crowd

    No excuse tho
