[Salman Ali] Woj: “James Harden’s future is very unclear in Philly…Houston is very much in play for him. And I think a lot may depend on [whether] they make a run and win and it’s easy to pay him long-term money, or he just wants to be him Houston… It’s dependent on the team’s success.”

Only way he stays in Philly is if they make it far in the playoffs but lose imo
If they somehow blow the Nets lead or win it all he leaves
Didn’t he say in a recent interview that his top priority is getting a ring?
Even if they don’t make it far in the playoffs this year, wouldn’t staying with the sixers still be his best chance at a ring? Why would he gamble again?
Rockets Sixers co-fandom in jeopardy
If he wants long-term money, then I’m out. I don’t really have any interest in giving Harden a 3-4 year max deal at ~$50 mil/yr.
If he’s willing to accept something below $40 mil/yr, then I think I’m a little more interested.
I love James but I’d rather not. Say bye bye to a motion offense with him running point. Plus it’s a lot for a physically diminished former star
Not news anymore. Woj is repeating this like once a month as if it’s groundbreaking new information.
It’s probably way more about being closer to his family than anything else. Plus the love the city gives him
Pass
I’d love him to come home but the asking price is the hurdle. Plus, I imagine teams closer to a chip will enter the fray for his services. Seems like low odds to me.
I’m not buying it. It’s probably Daryl playing that 4D chess again. I can see 76er’s owners not wanting or thinking Harden’s worth the max to stay, so Morey leaks that Harden could leave for nothing forcing ownership to Okay the max for Harden. Morey is more Harden’s agent as this point.
Because his scoring is what it was I don’t see Philly giving him the max. The way his game has aged makes him a perfect fit for Houston as they need a playmaker to elevate the young guys
He’s using this to get a max extension from Philly. He isn’t coming back. We shouldn’t really want him back either.
let him win a ring in philly first lol
I just don’t think we’re ready yet. I hope he leans into his option and then having either won or being frustrated with Philly, abecomes homesick and comes back to Houston the season after next or so, when we already have Vogel or Nurse or whoever’s system at least somewhat in tact and we put up a house money year that is at least somewhat attractive for a superstar.
I think it also means we would get him for less money since his contract would have been realized at that point and we maybe wouldn’t have to pay up to $36 milli.
One benefit for Houston is the over 38 rule. Their offer is going to be really similar to the Sixers.
Not a Rockets fan but came here when I saw the tweet about this. Why does this make sense for either side? Genuine question
