    There’s actually an interesting theory that James Naismith did in fact, NOT invent basketball. The theory is that it was invented a couple of years earlier by a 16 year old Lambert Will from New York who was a volunteer director at a local YMCA. The game caught on and spread throughout YMCA’s in the region until it reached Springfield and eventually James Naismith published the rules of the game in a Springfield college newspaper, gaining him credit for inventing the game.

    Lambert Will was an Austrian-American white guy so of course Jaylen Brown doesn’t care about this plausible theory. [There’s a book about it in case anyone’s interested](https://www.amazon.com/Nais-MYTH-Basketballs-Stolen-George-Fosty-ebook/dp/B09X69Z7B4).
