Obviously this trade doesn’t move the needle for us but:
1. DFS was a great defender for us for the vast majority of his tenure here
2. I think the Nets might want to offload him after how poorly he performed for them the past few months
3. I think our biggest target is a rim defending big so Maxi would be a less good redundancy
4. Luka loved DFS

No way the Nets will do that
And tbh , as much I liked dodo and how much I still disliked the trade. We should not make more of him than he was. He was a decent role player with great defensive effort, but his shooting wasn’t that reliable. We should move on and look for a better version of him.

Do we need another defensive wing? Absolutely yes. However, and let me stress this out, Maxi is our only average frontcourt player. Won’t even say above average or anything, but he is the only barely playable PF that we have.
Doe back would be amazing, but trading Maxi would leave us with a whole amount of zero frontcourt and interior defenders. Zero. Big fat 0. So trading Maxi, unless you can guarantee that we will roll with Hendricks, Lively and Capela after the draft and FA, is an enormous no-no (even if we did get all of those, I would still be very weary about trading Maxi).
