  1. So many spurs fans are out of state or international even. I think it's a different kind of love honestly, because when they aren't your home-state team, then your love of them is so much less conditional. It's a lot more…no strings. I understand home-state fans being scared or upset with the thought of the team moving though.

  2. I agree, as a none-Sanantonian Spurs fan, the location doesn't matter to me that much.
As long as we got the same players, uniforms, and most important, Pop, I will still
    be on board 100%.

  3. I think best to take into account is to lifelong San Antonionians it’s very tied to identity of city and many memories we have. Still we don’t know how people who live in another city or country feel and don’t have that. Still, if they left to Austin, my heart would be broken and don’t know if I could support same way. Some of earliest memories were watching spurs games and was in the building when we won 2007 and 2014

  4. I think people forget how many teams have switched places over time, for instance, Memphis
Grizzlies were called Vancouver Grizzlies before 2000, or the Nets moved from New Jersey to
Brooklyn…etc. There's a lot more in history, at the end of the day, earning matters the most,
    it's all about business.

  5. I think both teams, San Antonio Spurs and Austin Spurs, are not just interchangeable but I could see both teams actually growing too. I can see San Antonio being a G-League town better than an NBA town.

  6. If you listen how the previous Spurs players talk about the fan base here in San Antonio, they make a point that very few, VERY FEW, places have the support from fans that the Spurs receive. Not the amount of people but the deep gut appreciation. It's palpable. Also, a factor is the quality of personal character that they bring in here (with a few misanthropes thrown in for very short stays) is a big factor. I've been in San Antonio 40 plus years, and I've seen that the team ain't just a team, they are family, they our kids, our boys and it don't matter how old they are or where they go from here, they will always be San Antonio's favorite sons.

  7. You are completely unaware of the rivalry between SA and Austin. We even argue over breakfast tacos. And you've also never had your team abandon you

  8. One other point, where else in the world are you going to find a Demar DeRozan Mural on a building? I'll wait……

  9. The spurs moving to Austin would feel like a slap in the face of san antonio. That's a pretty good reason to not want to be a fan if they do that.

  10. Ain’t no one dealing with that Austin traffic if the Spurs move. Damn right we’re conditional fans, conditional on them being here and conditional on not dealing with that I-35 traffic.

  11. It’s getting annoying already that people say they’re gonna go to Austin, Red McComds said it before he passed that SA is here to stay along with Former CEO Peter Holt. Plus we’re building a half a BILLION dollar State of the Art Practice and Health Facility that’s going to be one of the best facilities in the world?? Yeah they’re sure moving to Austin alright💀😭

  12. I disagree. Are you going to support ex who cheated on you?
& I’m not sure you know the history of Austin and San Antonio

  13. Sorry Clan but you don't get it. Spurs and San Antonio are a family and if they move you rip the family apart.
There are generational fans here. The support is passed down to each generation.
We've been told they're not leaving so if they do and even if it's just to Austin then we were lied to.
Idk how you feel about being lied to, but it's a pretty big thing to me.
I don't have any hate for Austin but if the Spurs cease to be here in SA it would be hard for many Spurs fans to continue to support the team.
Don't know yet if I would support the team if they went to Austin.
But to say we're not real Spurs fans is pretty f*d up.

  14. Of course it’s conditional! They represent the region we live in! Clan, part of the reason people like the spurs here in South Texas is because they represent us. South Texas has nothing when it comes to professional sports. The Spurs are all we have. And the distance doesn’t matter! Austin is not part of the South Texas region which is why some people are pressed about it. The Spurs symbolize the culture of South Texas and for them to move to Austin would destroy that. You just won’t get it, unless you’re from the region. This is also why the organization is making efforts to incorporate much of South Texas and the RIo Grande Valley (including Mexico).

  15. Clan, the two cities are 72 miles apart. Easy driving distance from Austin for new fans to reach the AT&T Center. Of course we should recruit them.

These insecure fellow SA residents of mine are just overreacting because of lack of perspective. Spurs aren’t moving, so this is all a moot point.

With all these people moving here from California, we need more Austin fans, with deeper pockets filling those seats. Transplanted NBA fans are already taking over when the Lakers come to town, and sometimes at Warriors games. Sacramento maintains their success, they’ll be next to run us out of our own arena.

SA residents don’t want to have to worry about the Spurs moving? Buy more tickets, before someone from California beats you to it.

  16. You’re trying to compare Texas to Tennessee. Here in Texas we value loyalty. Moving away from San Antonio is disloyal to the fans in San Antonio

  17. Many of the same San Antonians who would say they would cease to be Spurs fans if the Spurs moved to Austin are huge Dallas Cowboys fans.

San Antonio and Austin are roughly an hour and 30 minutes apart. Moving to Austin would probably mean the Spurs having a bigger market and more people to buy game and season tickets especially since Austin is an overall wealthier city even if you account for its smaller population size.

  18. Great Stream CLAN 🩶 🤍 🖤 you're right, I'm in North Texas granted Austin is closer but there staying put in San Antonio .. they maybe the first team to split their home games between the 2 cities someday

  19. I typically agree w you on MOST takes, however. This falls down to the principle. San Antonio fan base have a deep emotional connection to this team. Which I think you’re failing to understand. It doesn’t matter if Austin is right down the road bro, you’re not from here so you don’t understand the culture, the energy, that there is here. It is indeed a terrible take. The spurs are the heart and soul of San Antonio. And FYI, it only takes 45mins-1 hr to get to Austin from San Antonio, again for those people not from here

  20. To say your fandom is unconditional while others is not is dumb. Of course their are conditions that would make you not be a fan. I think if they left it would suck but most fans would still cheer. The issue is Austin itself. And no it’s not politics or anything like that. It’s the culture that they would be leaving, working class, in order to accept the pretentious fakeness that is Austin. That’s the deal breaker. We’d route for Vegas or Seattle. We wouldn’t for Austin, and that’s what you don’t understand.
