Agreed! The only path is to tear down and start fresh. Maybe get something for Demar from Portland or any team desperate enough. Then trade Zach for a decent haul/combo of picks and young guys. Re sign Coby and let him and some young ins development more and see where your pick lands since 24 is one of the few years in recent memory we have the pick. Then I’m 24 off-season you reassess with cap space and build out the roster. Fans won’t like the step back but it’s the only way. So suck it up, let the kids play and pray Patrick William develops

I would rather watch a young team grow rather then this current team almost make the play offs…

    Good article imo.

Obviously running it back isn’t great, Bulls would be in basically the same position from roster perspective but with older stars and more $$ on the books, and that’s assuming we can even retain the talent we want to keep. Vuc, Javonte, Drummond can just walk, unless they like the opera too

Improving the roster is also going to be tough…Bulls have one first to give and basically no seconds so if you’re going all-in on the short term that means probably moving Pat / Dalen just to maybe max out as like a 6 seed. Maybe some are interested in that route but I’d find it pretty depressing tbh

Retooling makes sense in the abstract, but where I think this sub is mistaken is in thinking that means trading guys like DeMar or Caruso and building from there. DeRozan, an aging expiring contract with a proven incapacity to deliver in the playoffs isn’t fetching much of a return, and Caruso is the lynchpin keeping this team afloat – without him, we’re basically guaranteed to miss the play-in. Vuc, by the way, isn’t going to get us anything of significance back as a current FA. Imagining a better short-run team around Zach is a difficult exercise.

So if Bulls are going to maximize the value on their current assets, it probably means moving on from Zach as well and focusing exclusively on roster development until Lonzo’s deal is off the books. Selling on everyone else just leaves us in a worse position than we were in when AK took over…why even keep Zach around just to win 20 games a season? We can sell now while Zach’s in his prime, or we can risk him getting injured or forcing a trade at which point the return is going to be even worse.

It’s time for management to set their pride aside and do what’s best for the team, unless their objective is truly just to sell tickets in which case I guess just run it back and take a vacation this summer lol
