Fireable Offense – Did Sean Marks mismanage the trade deadline for the Brooklyn Nets?

After getting swept by the 76ers in the first round, it’s time to start looking back at some things that happened during the season which might alter the Nets’ future. One of those comes from the recent report that GM Sean Marks might have turned down multiple first-round picks for Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale at the trade deadline. The guys discuss these potential moves and how they would have and could have altered the Nets’ season and also the future.

Would it be better to have gotten the draft capital back and tanked for a lottery pick, or did the team choose the right path when it was all said and done?

  1. Yes he did. This team was never a real playoff team…. he should've traded Joe Harris for picks. We had a ton of 3 and d wings… this team is completely unbalanced

  2. He missed the mark by a mile with the whole Ben Simmons thing .Bridges needs to stay because they have Noone else to put on the billboard to market this team.Bridges wasn't coming to a Lottery team because they don't control their picks.

  3. Damian Lillard is someone Brooklyn likes for a variety of reasons. First he's one of the best scorers in NBA history, he's a energy boost on offensive transitions and knows how to command an offense.

Second Damian Lillard has made it known he highly respects Mikal Bridges as a player and friend along with Cam Johnson and would want to play with them.

Third just like Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton Damian Lillard is a loyal player who wants to build a culture on the court and outside of it with the fanbase… Something the previous superstar era didn't have..

Fourth, a big four of Damian Lillard Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton could make some serious noise in the East and be a tough competitive team…

This is all dependent on Lillard being available for a trade and having Brooklyn as one of his options…

  4. But one of the biggest goals is getting a reliable backup center behind Nic Claxton. Naz Reid is someone who would greatly fit Brooklyn systems given his versatility on both offense and defense. More importantly he takes pride in being a good defender and getting rebounds…

If Brooklyn wants to go to another level they need a reliable backup center….

  5. @locked on, I heard Sean Marks would go to Joe Harris pertaining to trades. Do you guys think that holds weight ???

  6. Ultimately if the Brooklyn Nets want to make a big move offsetting some contacts for more draft picks can help with that cause.

Dorian Finney Smith whose a glue guy and strong defender could get Brooklyn two important first round draft picks.

The Memphis grizzlies who might not bring Dillion Brooks back will need a defender to take his place and might have some interest in Doe…

A possible package of two first round draft picks and backup center Brandon Clarke whose recovering from Achilles tendon surgery could be a good trade for Brooklyn long term especially since Clarke has some years of control under his contract and could be a reliable center behind Nic Claxton….

Regardless if Brooklyn trades Dorian Finney Smith it has to be for something that helps Brooklyn for it's future and present….

  7. Last year Dame played the same game with the Lakers. He was spotted with Lebron. I don't think Dame is going anywhere . He's to expenses and almost out of his prime but who knows. Anything is possible.

  8. Why is the head coach (JV) that was hired to mold this team that morphed into a mess it's presently in as a result of the GM's (Marks) trade decisions? (folly) They've turned into the worst decisions in the history of the league, yet he's getting less vitriolic comments from the Nets fan base, than JV, even though JV just got the job of head coach and Marks had 7 years, so far, to show some progress that hasn't happened? The answer should be obvious. Too much "in Marks we trust" bullsh*t.

  9. Nets should try and get Thomas Bryant as a back up center , and pray to the basketball gods for a good point guard the same way Knicks landed jailer Brunson.

  10. Yea keeping Curry is what makes me mad about this situation because the dude did nothing for us, just took up minutes from people who need it more. Keeping Curry allowed JV to keep playing the horrible Joe Harris + Seth Curry combo which I'm sure all Nets fans dislike. Would've liked to see Curry's minutes go to Cam T, Yuta, Edmond, hell maybe even David Duke or Dru Smith, anybody but Seth Curry.

  11. Finally a video that really tells the TRUTH, Sean Marks absolutely missed. Loved the episode

  12. Is LON questioning Sean Marks's trade deadline decisions? That sound like sacrilege. Whatever happen to "in Marks we trust?"

  13. 11:53 Royce O'Neale played sufficient backup minutes at the 3 to justify that trade, so keeping him is no problem.

    👍 to Marks

  14. 21:42

So, instead of DF-S and Royce, we're playing Yuta, Sumner, Joe, and Thomas more. 🤔

The record would've remained the same

  15. 25:12 Seth Curry was absolutely UNNECESSARY for any version of this team. I have a bad feeling Marks will sign him to a new contract 😕

  16. Based where our draft success has come from Im pretty spoiled with late first and 2nd rounders, sorry felllas. Not as caught up on draft capital with the Nets past success. Jkidd, Vince carter, even kd. But 1st in Nets history, it’s been what Keith Ban Horn, Kmart(which I love), Kerry kittles, cam thomas(which we don’t play, and brook lopez (that we traded too soon?)

  17. Should we try to move up in this years draft? Should we use this years picks as is or package them in a trade or to move up in the draft? We have so many options to consider.
