Imagine being the 5th seed in the West half way through the season, trading away a good scoring guard, your best wing defender, and an unprotected 1st round pick in 2029 for an indecisive enigma of a player on a 3 month contract… with the goal being to make a playoff push… just to finish the year 7-17 and intentionally lose your last chance at a play-in spot to try and save a top 10 protected pick that you STILL owe from a trade you made over 4 years ago for a player that you have NOTHING to show for on this current roster…

Mavs should trade Luka for all star wing, defensive center, 4+ picks and sign Kyrie to be their tank commander.

What did Portland, Utah, Washington, Indiana do? Mavs trying to lose 2 games is the end of the world, even though the teams that have been doing it for longer gave up earlier, wasted the amount of time of more fans, damaged the product more and will reap greater benefits from it?
Literally look at what Portland did. They shut their entire team down in March, 3 games behind the play-in with 10 games to go.
They ran a line-up of John Butler Jr., Trendon Watford, Jeenathan Williams, Skylar Mays, Shaquille Harrison, Justin Minaya. Yes, those are real names.
They sat the following players: Lillard, Nurkic, Simons, Grant, Winslow, Nassir Little, Thybulle, Cam Reddish.
They even had to shut down Shaedon Sharpe, their 19-year-old rookie, because he was playing too well (mid-game, mind you).
Utah literally gave up on their season when they were in 9th place.
But somehow, amongst all of the teams blatantly tanking since the ASB or the beginning of the season, the Mavs are the most egregious?

The Mavs have always been a joke for a whole decade. Don’t know why it took this season to see that and don’t get me started on Luka (the best player in the NBA apparently, no rings, no mvps but yes the best thing since sliced bread.) Even if the Mavs made the playoffs they WEREN’T GONNA WIN ANYTHING! Can we please have Jalen Brunson back? Luka nd Kyrie's skill sets are too similar and instead of complimenting one another, they cancel each other out. Both players are best when they are playing in concert with teammates – Luka's lobs to Powell, for example. As it is now, when Kyrie has the ball Luka just stands there. When Kyrie has the ball, Luka just stands there.
That's what happens when you beat a team you weren't suppose to and reach a conference finals against all odds and then get overhyped by your fanbase and literally everyone else for the next 9 months.

I wouldn't call this tanking, losing this game was just a smart move because they get to keep their 1st round pick. Would you call it tanking if GSW intentionally got 6th seed to have a better chance in the 1st round playing against the Kings and avoid the Suns and Grizzlies , or Timberwolves intentionally losing in the play in against the Lakers and suspending Gobert to get the 8th seed for a better chance against the Nuggets? I know I shouldn't say Denver and Sacramento's teams are weaker than the others, but you can't say that Phoenix and Memphis don't have better potential either.
My opinion is that Cuban already compromised this team, getting Kyrie was a high risk bet that I think he lost and he's on a lose-lose situation with him. To sign him on a max contract would mean less cap space to actually build a contending team, and the best shot they got is the draft, so keeping this year's pick is a minimum they could salvage from the ruins.
I love how he says in the Mavs situation it was "technically the best move" to lose the game. No, it was clearly the best move to lose the game when they had pretty much been eliminated from the playoffs already. Had they made the playoffs they would have lost a draft pick which clearly, they need desperately.
