Do we now have to admit there was some merit to when Shaq and Barkley said the Raptors were in ‘No mans land’ – ?

We are but the FO doesn’t want to admit it

I disagree. We have pieces like Siakam who can get a young player and a couple of picks. Or OG (but I’d rather keep him). No mans land is when you have nothing, and no ability to change things. Like Brooklyn after the Boston trade and after letting KG and Pierce.

they said…”Good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to go anywhere”

they didnt lie. People were gassed up on siakam. he’s a solid player but he’s not THAT guy in the playoffs. He’s simply not. We can’t be blind to reality.

Good enough to make the playoffs means never realistically getting a slam dunk draft pick. This team relies so heavily on getting home runs in the draft and that’s a brutal way to have to build. Basketball is the hardest major sport to be the GM of for so many reasons and in Toronto you also have to deal with the brutal taxes, tough weather and being in a different country. I’ll never take the championship for granted, Masai truly did the impossible that year.

We aren’t even good enough to make the playoffs, so that was too generous

  6. Hopefully now that these guys said it, people will realize we need to rebuild and Masai is leading us down a path of mediocrity.

Considering the 8 seed that we could have been is beating the 1 seed I think the tank crowd can chill out. We had a legit shot at beating this bucks side. They look like the frauds we thought they may be. We know coach buddy boy real well.

If you didn’t recognize this 2 seasons ago you’re blind

Everyone but Masai and Bobby has known this forever. They maybe knew it too but just didn’t want to admit it publicly.

No Man’s Land in the NBA only exists for teams with bad front offices. The concept is built on the idea that you need to lose and get a high pick to get high quality talent through the door.

The Wizards aren’t in No Man’s Land because they refuse to trade Beal and tank. They are in No Man’s Land because in the last three drafts they picked Johnny Davis over Jalen Williams, Corey Kispert over Alperen Sengun and Deni Avdija over Tyrese Haliburton.

The Blazers aren’t in No Man’s Land because they refuse to trade Lillard and tank. They are in No Man’s Land because in the 2017 draft they had picks that could have been two of OG Anunoby, Jarrett Allen and/or John Collins, and instead of using them, they packaged them to trade up to the 10th pick. With the 10th pick, they passed on Donovan Mitchell and Bam Adebayo to take Zach Collins. The Blazers also traded two firsts for Roco, GTJ for Norm, then gave Roco and Norm away for Eric Bledsoe and Keon Johnson. They also traded a first round pick for Larry Nance, then used him as cap filler in the CJ McCollum trade less than a year later.

If you are a good front office, you build a contender with a 13th pick (Donovan Mitchell) and a 27th pick (Rudy Gobert). If you are a bad front office, you give up a mountain a firsts to put Gobert in a system that doesn’t fit, while giving the good front office the ability to build its next contender.

why would they think that, we have Pascal *and* Siakam.

The raptors seem to me to be alot like my Favourite Habs teams of the past decade until the recent high and then huge low.

The team is too good to secure a great draft pick and the prospects you get from said pick, but the team is also bad enough that when they manage to sneak into the playoffs, or play-ins, they don’t manage to get any real damage done and normally bow out in the first round.

It creates problems that can only be helped with Free Agent signings or with good trading. And everyone knows in the NBA, that players are reluctant to come north of the border.

Unfortunately there are some great young pieces on the team and at the same time, some fan favourites should be moved on from if they really want to make a push. BOS,MIL, PHI are three strong teams, ATL, NYK on the upswing and MIA will always be a problem. It’s time to either sell the old guys and get assets or young players or dig in heels and make a huge splash with either a big trade or big FA signing.

We’re at the edge of No Man’s Land but it’s not that hard for the team to pivot out of it

  14. iblastoff

lol no. quoting barkley or shaq as analysts is fucking hilarious.

  15. You can say that but tell me how any of these brick laying teams in the first round are any different than us with better chemistry? A star player here and there that we can’t get anyways? Hell the Bucks might be in no man’s land if they lose to Himmothy Buckets next game.

  16. jamiecballer

Personally, no. Everyone is focused on the team right now but I still remember what we thought Scottie might be 12 months ago and I’m holding on to that hope at least another year. If he’s a superstar next year everything changes.
