@Toronto Raptors

Obviously Houston and Detroit were the ones that opened up immediately and then Toronto after that… honestly this is more attractive then the mid-level teams that have an established ceiling… I’d rather coach a young team up” – Udoka on the other jobs. (Esfandiar Baraheni on Twitter)

Good luck coaching Kevin Porter Jr. You will need it

  2. vaalbarag

You get way more of a leash coaching a young team; for a coach that can choose his options, that’s a big plus.

Slightly different topic but no chance Nurse goes to Detroit, with Casey moving into a front-office role there, right?

  3. EarlofSlammwich

It will take minimum 5 years before Houston will be competing in the West if everything goes right. They’re a 20 win team right now. Whose to say where we are in 5 years? We have Masai Ujiri don’t sleep

    >an established ceiling

Masai: First of all how dare you

  5. chrisPjelly

Kudos to the diehards who are still calling Vanvleet and Siakam “young”

  6. KratosSmash

Established ceiling? He assumes we keep pascal and Fred? Lol

  7. PlumCantaloupe

Damn Udoka, have you been reading this sub lol.

I hope this helps create a chip on the shoulders of the guys being called mid to bad by everyone, coaches and superstars alike. They need some energy to feed off of.

  8. shiftydnm

Watching his introduction rn, God I wish he was our coach🤦🏾‍♂️

  9. ABlushingGardener

Great, you don’t want a coach that writes off a team he barely knows. Doesn’t know them personally, their character or approach. Sounds like we dodged a bullet.

Essentially he looked at the Raptors situation from the players on the roster, to our lack of flexibility, draft capital and ability to compete and said yeah no this team isn’t it.

  11. UjiriWatcher

Everyone knows we’re in no mans land except Masai

  12. Hazelwood38

He should just be honest that he’s betting on Houston landing the Wemby pick more than anything else.

    UDOKA FROM THE TOP ROPES

  14. I just laugh at how many people are STILL trying to defend Masai and this horrible roster.

We’ve got analysts calling the team mid, we’ve got players shitting on us for being mid, we’ve got our former coach saying the team has no direction, and now the ***MOST*** saught after coach in the off season specifically saying he didn’t want to play for us because we are mid.

These mfers going to go to the grave defending Masai.

  15. I hope every player on this roster is seeing this and using it as motivation. The man chose to work for Tilman Fertitta and Rafael Stone over Masai and Larry.

  16. PriorityPoints

Not that I disagree about our ceiling, but he’s really making it sound like he controlled his destiny. Detroit has an even better shot at Wemby and has Cade. They have a much more promising young roster than whatever is going on in Houston right now lol

This front office has been washed up for a while. Ppl are just in denial. Get ready for some treadmill years

  18. n3moh0es

dude made the right choice. FO has some fantasies that this core could improve and become a great team while no one else believes it. hilarious at this point

  19. skgantz19

In all honesty, it’s just hollow talk he’s just talking up his new job. Houston’s selling point was the potential drafting of Victor. Same goes for Detroit it’s why it will be so funny when Charlotte or the Spurs get the first overall pick.

  20. CheatedOnOnce

Yeah I’m gonna log off after this one

  21. Slacker_75

Shoutout Udoka man. Hope our FO finally wakes up hearing this

  22. bryant-reeves

lol so happy we didn’t get him, other than Jabari Smith and Sengun, Green. Houston is trashhhh.

  23. Konfliction

I feel like this basically echoes my fear that Masai has no intention of tanking. I’m not one of those “believe in Masai” people, and I’m genuinely worried we’re gonna be a middling 7th to 9th seed type team for years.

  24. Ylissian

Udoka wasn’t dying to coach the untapped talents of Malachi Flynn and Dalano Banton? Lmao

  25. elarmthecity

Our FO have been awful since 2020 don’t @me

  26. 2Shizo2flow

Seems like everyone from the media, to actual NBA personal know the trajectory of this irritation of the Raptors.

What the hell does Masai and Bobby see?

  27. Responsible-Release7

The best coach available called us mid with no future and our former coach that won us a championship said “good luck with those guys”. Wonder what 6’9 doofus that can’t dribble or shoot we’re gonna draft this time.

  28. I didn’t think Udoka would come here cause we’d likely be rebuilding but wow he’s fine with a rebuilding team, just doesn’t sound like the raptors are :/

  29. Legitimate-Row7081

makes sense.. why would he pick a team built around two 29 year olds who cant even get out of the play in? especially, with low-ceiling young talent outside of barnes. Houston has young talent with high upside on top of getting a top 5 draft pick this year

  30. Green-Umpire2297

cant wait for Pat Mutombo to destroy Houston next year
