In Episode 1389, Sean Woodley is joined by Katie Heindl (DIME, Basketball Feelings, Gaming Society) to break down the sophomore season of budding Toronto Raptors star Scottie Barnes and take a look at what his future might hold. Off the top, Sean and Katie chat about their biggest positive takeaways from his season. Most impressively, he wore a bunch of different hats, and learned how to operate within his various different roles on the team very effectively after brief windows of adjustment. He’s a basketball sponge, a visionary passer, and still very much a player who has yet to be fully moulded — and that’s a good thing! Next, Sean and Katie dig into the negatives of Barnes’ second season, and how the front office and coaching staff’s lack of direction and role definition probably played into some negative impressions of Scottie’s season and his interactions with veteran teammates Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet. Are the on-court tensions between Scottie, Pascal and Fred fixable with a fresh set of eyes in the form of a new head coach? Plus, why Barnes’ conditioning is a massively important area of focus this summer as he looks to ditch the Fourth Quarter Scottie moniker and become Four Quarter Scottie. And some thoughts on how his mid-range touch could unlock the rest of his game. Lastly, Sean and Katie discuss why the Raptors’ off-season need for shooting is critical to Scottie’s development, whether it’s time to hand the keys to Barnes and make it his team going into Year 3.

Too young too soon to give him the keys
In my opinion I believe Masai should Trade Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet and bring in Zion Williamson right now it’s a great opportunity to landing a first rounder now that the pelican organization is kind of upset with is availability but we all know this kat could be a monster in the league in the raptors organization with the medical team and upscale lifestyle I guarantee success.
Being in a Zion Williamson long side Scottie Barnes and OG Anunoby OMG blockbuster Masai would be Jesus
I was frustrated with Nurse for the last two years, I think the bubble season changed his trajectory, and because of that we lost a few years of development seasons by benching our youth and not playing them. Yuta is a great example. Im quite hopeful now because of this change, we have many great pieces, we just needed better leadership and a chance to develop depth. the fish rots from the head down, and I think now that we have a new head, things will smell better
i always like katie’s honest takes..
Depends… are we going to prioritize mid talent over our ROTY?
rebuild around young players mainly scottie, og +2023 pick or suffer from years of play-in and first round exits, with an eventual forced rebuild with no assets as core players age, this is basically what a happened with bosh. Let that happen and you wont see playoff for 5 seasons.
Why is no one addressing Scottie's lack of shooting capability?
Right. Dude needs to work on his shot this off season. Like a lot…
