The 2023 NBA Draft looks to be one of the most talented classes in recent memory (on paper). Amidst a murky future, given some major looming contract decisions, who can the Toronto Raptors take a look at to steer them in the right direction moving forward? There’s one prospect around the range of where Toronto currently projects to be in the draft who could be a MAJOR game-changer for this team. Who would that be? Let’s talk basketball!

Would be perfect for Raps. Good choice. I wish Raps would have a second round pick there are some very good prospects even in the 40's or 50's.
Jrue is a great comp.
Imo I see him more of a Marcus Smart type of player. He's going to be a good defender but not a great playmaker or an elite 3-point shooter. I think the Raptors will draft Rayan Rupert!
Awesome JJ. Can't wait o look into Wallace more. Especially if Jrue is a decent comp for him. Intriguing to say the least. Hope you enjoyed your trip.
One answer no 💀
yes, him and nick smith jr is our top prospect. because we are in contention this year. it's time. this year and the next are make or break years.
Have you heard of the trade possibility.
If Pistons draft Scoot Henderson, they would ask for a small forward in exchange of Jaden Ivey
WE gotta make it this year.
Before we begin, some general outlines
0.1 Masai will prioritize defense and speed to combine with Pascal's new-found offensive output.
0.2 Pascal lives and thrives in the midrange, therefore an added threat will be detrimental to Pascal's offensive out put.
0.3 Fred 's play making load has increased. with his contract to be renewed, the play making capacity will be new-found priority in this upcoming draft.
0.4 the bench offense has no three point threat
Masai is likely to multiply his picks by chasing for 3pt shooters away from the lottery, even off of the first round, maybe.
0.5 Fred and OG shooting from 3pt range are the best complement to Pascal. Splash brothers, maybe ? the two untouchables of the raptors are Scottie and Pascal, both need 3pt outlets badly.
In the draft :
We are picking a guard it's a fact:
we need speed :
Anthony Black
Nick Smith
Cason Wallace
JalenHoodSchiffino
and we need defense :
Cason Wallace
Dariq Whitehead
Marcus Sasser
Jett Howard
Rayan Rupert
I’m a draft psycho and Raptors fan myself. I’m obsessed with Cason Wallace. Outside of his elite defensive skill, he is definition of “take what the defense gives you” on offense.
He doesn’t need ball screens like other guards in this draft to generate offense – he can do it himself. He may not be the most dynamic self-creator, but I guarantee his scoring ability will surprise everyone when it’s said and done. He’s got great touch around the rim with floaters, hard drives, and creative finishes around the rim. He probably has one of the most effective in-between games out of any guard outside of Scoot and Hood-Schifino. He doesn’t shy away from contact like Nick Smith. He’s a great catch and shoot threat which we could use more of and our democratic playmaking means he doesn’t necessarily need to be a fantastic off the dribble shooter. And he’s a really smart player which shows up defensively and in his improved playmaking as he quickly adjusted to being the lead guard when Wheeler went out for Kentucky.
Despite Scoot (who we’re probably not getting), guards like Nick Smith, Hood-Schifino, and Bufkin are assisted on at-the-rim and other 2pt attempts at around 20-30%. Cason is at 9%! His combination of not needing plays ran for him, his catch and shoot ability, improved playmaking, elite hands, elite defensive awareness and basketball intelligence is perfect for our team.
Not to mention, he has two basketball success intangibles working in his favor. One, he played up his whole life, his older brother is currently in the g league. Two, the Kentucky effect – need I say more.
I’m really excited about this guy and I think everything he does is truly scalable for the NBA. And if his skills are scalable, that opens up opportunities for him to develop a dynamic self-creation game that could make him our long-term solution at the point guard spot and hopefully and all star one day.
One player the Raptors should pursued in the draft is Oscar Tshiebwe
