[Jon Krawczynski] Rudy Gobert says he’s undecided about playing for France in the World Cup. Says he wants to “come back like I want to have the best year of my career next season. I know that this summer I’m going to put myself in position that I’ve never put myself in before.”

[Jon Krawczynski] Gobert says he will take the next couple of days to reflect before making a decision on the World Cup.

There’s no decision to be made. Commit to the team that pays you $50 million annually. He clearly was fatigued from playing all summer last year and let it negatively effect his play here. I get that playing for France is a big deal to him but if he goes to the world cup it’ll be a massive mistake. He needs to be better next season.

    …. Rudy I’d rather you didn’t

  4. GenShanx

His performance at the beginning of the season was unprofessional and something a man as proud as Rudy should have been ashamed of. He was stealing money until post-All Star

  5. Probably the best for everyone he didn’t play. Wolves want him to come in refreshed and it’s time for him to pass the torch to Wemby

  6. TheNotoriousJN

The fact is, and Rudy should realise, he came to the Wolves late, banged up and tired because he was determined to play FIBA.

It meant he had no chemistry with the players. No game fitness. No understanding of the way we played and ultimately meant he played like shit trying to catch up

If he plays in the World Cup he should really recognise that it will be a detriment to the team now. This is serious shit. His name has been dragged through the mud. His reputation is in the bin. I understand he loves playing for France. But France doesnt give him generational wealth

Thats fair. Wolves pay him 50 million and he gave his body up last summer and clearly started the season bad because of it.

As a frenchman and a Wolves fan since KG I’d rather he didn’t. International ball is a huge point of pride for a lot of players, but he clearly needs the rest/offseason to practice properly with his wolves teammates.

Also lets Victor gets some reps in with the NT.

  9. Ordinary-Hopeful

Don’t do it, Rudy. Use that time to rest up, practice with your teammates, and read books about vaccinations.

Can he just spend this summer learning how to do a post hook/fade and build some post moves. Also free throw improvement would be a miracle too

  11. we already have kyle going to china, we can’t risk rudy

  12. Holy-Crap-Uncle

They have webenyama, why would they need him? Honestly he should play, because he’ll be on the second unit most of the time.

  13. SportzWrap

Would’ve been nice if he had that attitude last year. Oh well, not like he’s being paid the GDP of a small pacific island nation or anything

We need Rudy to sleep in a pool of stem cells and rebuilding goo undisturbed till the start of training camp in October. Think the Matrix in those embryo bods.

It’s pretty clear that Rudy came into the season a diminished player because of the energy he expended playing for France — the team actively chose to rest him during a crucial time of building synergy.

It honestly felt like he was playing at somewhere between 60-80% for the vast majority of the season. He just didn’t have the pop that he used to. Some of that is age, but you’d also see it a lot more after extended breaks and it was way more present after the all-star break (although some of that was also swapping out D’Lo for Conley).

And he just accrued a number of wear-and-tear injuries. Sore knees, pulled groin, tight back. Again, some of that is age, but you have to assume him not getting real rest played a role.

I really do think that an off-season away from the national team and with his current teammates would do A LOT in terms of making him start to look more like the Utah Rudy.

Out of any player on the team, I think Rudy would benefit staying put and developing on court and off court relationships with the players. Rudy is unique as a basketball player, and seems to be as a person too. Let the team soak in who he is as an individual more.

  17. Throebach

Dude needs to stay home and rest. He’s going to break down if he keeps this up. He already played last summer.. I get representing your country, but your country ain’t the one paying you..

As a Wolves fan, I believe it’s absolutely the right thing to do…

on the other hand as a fan coming from Serbia, if Jokic doesn’t play for Serbia, I’ll hate him forever.

International basketball is the biggest scam side of collegiate sports. Enormous revenues earned on the back of charity under the guise of patriotism. At some point in the future, I expect players to wise up and stop letting themselves be used.

How about instead. A summer long wolves training camp!
