[Thompson] Before Game 7, Steph Curry assured the team he would deliver victory if they all bought in. Anyone who was ready for their vacation, he told them not to get on the bus. But if they got on the bus, he promised he’d deliver. Wiggins: “It gave me chills. No. 30, he’s different, man.”

> And they were together because Curry made sure of it. With what a few of his teammates called the greatest speech of his career.

> “It gave me chills,” Andrew Wiggins said. “No. 30, he’s different, man.”

> According to multiple sources in the private session, Curry told the team he believed in them, that they had enough to win. He asked for their trust in return. He assured them he could deliver victory if they all bought in. He implored them to put all of their feelings aside — which sources with knowledge of the locker room felt was messaging directed at Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and other guys who might’ve been unhappy for reasons such as playing time and role — and lock in to the unified mission. Anyone who wanted to remain in their emotions, he told them to stay home. Anyone who was ready for their vacation, he told them not to get on the bus for Sacramento. But anyone who did get on the bus, Curry took that as a signature of approval, a binding agreement to be on board with the mission. And if they did that, if they got on the bus, he promised he’d deliver. With his game, his faith, their solidarity, they’d win.

> Because of who he is, and how rarely he does this, it hit home in a way only Curry could pull off. He saved the Warriors’ season before Game 7 even began.

> “You’re in this space where you’re gon’ fold or you gon’ rise up,” Green said, his voice raising with excitement as he relived the speech. “Once he did that, you have no choice but to rise up. He f—ing got everybody locked in. ‘If you’re getting on this bus, you’re making a commitment to this team. No matter if you play zero minutes or 40 minutes. You’re making a commitment to do whatever it takes. Prepare your mind and body for this opportunity we have. We got embarrassed the other night and we never f—ing going out like that.’”

Guy has to be a parent to his teammates while also having 3 kids.

If I’m the Kings, I’m ecstatic I took the warriors to 7 games. They are an all time dynasty. The Kings had a great season and Mike Brown deserves respect.

Deserves to be in the top 5. Push Duncan and Kobe out if needed. Shaq stays.

  4. Objectitan

The Kings pushed Curry and he responded like a champion. What a series.

Curry promising everyone ice cream if they get on the team bus. And one of the assistant coaches definitely had to prevent Klay from accidentally getting on the Kings bus

I smell a new copy pasta.

    > Before supper, Kelvin Benjamin assured the team he would deliver pizza if they all brought bread sticks. Anyone who was ready for the bed, he told them not to sit at the table. But if they sat at the table, he promised he’d deliver. Newton: “It gave me heartburns. 30 slices, he’s different, man.”

sounds like stuff a bus driver would say

Y’all. We are about to get Lebron vs Steph. This shit about to be crazy.

    > Kevon Looney — who had his own career night, grabbing 20 or more rebounds for the third time this series — said he knew it was over when Curry, early in the game, waved off a screen. He wanted to go iso. That usually means his aggression is at max levels, that he sees a weakness and wants to attack it.

Winning a game 7 like they did is sure to give them a boost of confidence as a team after being so-so all year, especially doing it on the road. I wouldn’t want to play them this year. Their defense looks much improved over anything I saw I the regular season.

And what a way to come through with your promise. 50/8/6 with only 1 TO. And it wasn’t a particularly insane shooting night from 3, Steph worked his ass off for most those points. Hard carried that shit

    Curry ain’t fan of Cancun

I don’t blame the young dudes for being in their feelings with playing time etc, but they are gonna get that ultimate reality check about life in the NBA after Curry retires lmaooo.

Kuminga and Moody have only known winning a title and making a playoff run this year sheesh

Steph’s had some great games this series, but I was waiting for the “Steph puts the team on his back and decides to win the game no matter what” performance. Didn’t have to wait all that long.

The funniest part is that after that speech his teammates basically all still shat the bed (other than Looney), and he had to bail them out himself.

We gon see whose legendary drive to win will overcome the other’s between Steph and LeBron.

These quotes is why I wish we had something like All or Nothing in the NBA. I wanna see these speeches so bad.

If anything, this shows how good the Kings really were for their first time in the playoffs. They weren’t just fucking around and getting lucky winning 3 of 7 against the defending champs. It took an all-time great Game 7 performance by Curry to knock ‘em out.

And of course, it reinforces how great Curry is

bro is jesus christ -andre iguodala

  22. KazaamFan

Klay 4/19 from field, damn, Steph literally won this game by himself. Looney was a boost also.

  23. tonylouis1337

Basically, “stop bitching and do your job”, but of course if he said it like that it would be harder for people to buy in. Well played Chef

  24. doordaesh

you know that’s great because in years passed we’ve read about him being more passive, Draymond being more of the vocal leadership for the team, I’m not sure if I’ve ever read about something like this from him. but goddamn he sure played like “we aren’t fucking going out like that”

  25. This might legitimately be the turning point of their season.

Imagine someone just going “fuck it, I’m just gonna stay and chill”
