The Nets enter the off-season at something of a crossroads around what to do with Cam Thomas. He put up some monster numbers when given full run this season, but then was just as quickly buried in the rotation. Doug Norrie take a look at what Sean Marks and company should do where Thomas is concerned.
He examines the possibility of trading Cam but also of keeping him and giving Thomas a solid spot in the rotation. There’s also talk around the one thing they absolutely can’t do where Thomas is concerned.

Well fellow spectators and colleagues now we address the Cam Thomas issue..
Looking at his progress for the last few years he's taken leaps scoring more given that little 40+ consecutive run he had.
However his playing time disappeared again for very important reasons:
Without the ball Cam Thomas hasn't improved as a defensive player and Coach Vaughn hasn't seen an improvement in that part of the game.
Another big problem is Cam Thomas hasn't been a consistent playmaker helping his teammates get good scoring opportunities and that's led to a lack of flow and connectivity.
Now people can argue he's still young and learning. However Cam Thomas has shown he's not receptive to coach Vaughn and his staff style of playing and it might be best to potentially trade Cam Thomas for a first round draft pick and move forward….
Given Cam Thomas age and best strength being a 30+ scoring bucket lots of teams especially rebuilding ones would be willing to part with a first round draft pick for Thomas services…
Also given Brooklyn has an 18.1 million trade exception they could acquire a player and a draft pick back as well in a cam Thomas trade package…
Definitely a lot for Brooklyn to consider…
It depends on what we get. Since Vaughn loves veterans, how about something centered around Thomas for Jordan Clarkson?
Ultimately being a top NBA player is more then just scoring. Defense, playmaking accountability and improving ones weaknesses are important elements to becoming a better player in the league..
Unfortunately Cam Thomas just isn't there yet and might benefit from a change of scenery and Brooklyn could get a first round draft pick back to add to their asset chest…
Overall going into the offseason trading joe Harris patty Mills and cam Thomas seem like no brainers especially if Brooklyn is serious about getting bigger as a team. Plus with Cam Brooklyn gets a first round draft pick back where joe and patty could be used as salary matches in a possible big trade to add more solid role players to their core…
@lockedonnets Why hasnt cam Thomas play the James harden OKC sixth man role yet? Build his worth and make him a household name try to win sixth man of the year. Eventually packaging him for championship aspirations.
Hell no, we should’ve pushed him to the moon from his debut.
If Brooklyn tries to trade cam Thomas for draft compensation they could attach the 18.1 million trade exception to the package which also get Brooklyn a draft pick and a quality player on an expiring contract as well.
This goes back Brooklyn having to be strategic this off-season…
Not only should the Nets trade Cam Thomas, but Cam Thomas should DEMAND that the Nets trade him. Cam Thomas will surely become a perennial all star that will come back and torch the Brooklyn Nets for years to come.
promo sm 😅
I don't want to trade Cam Thomas but Jacque Vaughn isn't going to play him so we might as well get a player back that can help this team now. Package Cam Thomas + Ben Simmons for John Collins add picks if necessary.
Definitely can see both sides
Only if they can attach ben lol
If he wants to be traded they should do it. If I were Cam I would want out of there. JV ain’t the coach.
Yes
I wish you could get interviews with some of his previous coaches have to say about Cam. He has been successful at every level, every all star game etc. against the best available competition.
I hope he has a good agent. He should hire Nicole Lynn.
