  1. Brightest spot we’ve got in our stable of young guys. Has been solid from the early months of his rookie season and that breakout game at MSG.

First thing I noticed about him was his knack of being at the right place at the right time. This was before the “he’s such a great cutter!” stuff. He’d make the hustle plays, get a loose ball here, grab a rebound there, finish a 3-point play.

His shot is still notably flat but it still goes in enough. He identified his weakness with defending fast players after his rookie season, asked to play in summer league, and spent time guarding quick guys trying to be better. That’s the kind of players you love.

Seems like the thing he may be trying to add to his game is the ability to pump fake at the 3 and when the second defender comes to stop the drive, to get past them too, with a better handle.

I need a few things from him. Be more selective with 3s. The last few weeks of the season he was kind of testing out if he could just jack 3s over double-teams and with little set-up time. And it was largely unsuccessful. Everybody wants him to just shoot shot shoot more, but I don’t think that’s his game when he already has to expend energy on defense because if you have Beal/Kuz/KP/Delon for example on the floor, you’re goin right at Kispert. Anybody would. I would. So he’s not going to have the energy left to just shoot volume 3s and have them go in unless he hits a steph level of training in the offseason.

I also hope he maintains his bounce and gets a little bit more fluid with the finishes. But I can’t like, the last 10, 20 games he was showing us something new every other game and doing things we didn’t know he had. But he needs to get a little sauce, a little wiggle, a little nasty, you know what I mean? It’s hard as hell to guard guys who just throw you off with hesitation moves, weird looking dribble combos (that are quick and effective, not intricate).

    J. Crew Jesus will continue to get underestimated by everybody that faces him. I want to see him put up a 30 ball. I want to see him be more vocal as a 3rd-year player who is still just 24. He’s already shown flashes of that.

    One reply states:

“The starting lineup next year should be

    Anthony Black
    Johnny Davis
    Corey Kispert
    Deni Avdija
    Kristaps Porzingis

Youth and leader and vet in Porzingis who’s only 27. Ship Beal to Brooklyn and Kuzma to Dallas/Sacramento/Memphis”

This is a W take imo, hopefully in this perfect world scenario, JD can get some reps in over the summer and fill in the gap at Starting SG with Beal gone. And also Deni needs to learn how to shoot a three pointer. It’s time to start over with whatever youth from the draft in recent years we have. Keep KP for veteran experience, who can help Gaf potentially develop a mid-range game(?) Roll with the complementary youth in the Starting Five with having solid assets off the bench like Goody, Monte, Gaf, and try to get Quinton Jackson some PT.
