Mike Budenholzer appreciation, plus Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece to meet USA at FIBA World Cup

The Bucks could be in for an offseason of change, which would bring an end of a really fun era of Milwaukee basketball. Kane and Camille get together to ask whether the Bucks era is at tipping point? Is the grass always greener on the other side when it comes to coaching? They also show some real appreciation for Mike Budenholzer and look ahead to the FIBA World Cup as Greece are drawn in the same group as Team USA.

  1. Half court offence in bud era is atrocious. Bucks rely on defence to get to transition game. The moment you don't get transition game (especially in playoffs teams have much better defence transition) the only way bucks win is if Giannis go nuclear or bucks hit 3pointers.
I like bud but I think his cycle closed

  2. Giannis to be happy he has to play in the wolrd cup. All the other wolrd thinks this competition is improtant

  3. Mike Budenholzer needs to be fired immediately ar least if you cant coach and you are at that position why dont you listen to your coaching staff why don't you take feedback from us the fans. Why don't you listen to your superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis did coach a team during the all-star break to beat Lebron and his team. Why didn't you ask him for advice when you were down 2 – 1. Mike Bud was very proud and felt he was a good coach and then failed even when Giannis wanted to play in Game 3 while the series was 1 – 1 he refused Giannis playing, refused to call timeouts, refused to make in-game adjustments. You can't make this up! Mike Bud has to be fired or we stand a risk of losing Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Dallas Mavericks this summer

  4. I think it’s a little wild when people say all these guys are better than Steve Kerr personally. He should be neck and neck with Popovich on peoples lists. He’s as good as it gets.

  5. If I was drinking water while listening to this pod, I would've uncontrollably spit it out of my mouth when I heard two very specific things said. The first is when Camille put Bud over Kerr as a coach and the second when I heard Kane say that Bud was a top 7 coach. I'm not sure if the Locked On network has mandatory drug testing, but if they don't, you two seriously need to get tested. 😂 Or maybe the pill that you did take was the blue pill so that you could stay inserted inside the Matrix so that you can believe what you want to believe. Everyone else out here in the real world knows what we know and has seen what we've seen from an incompetent Coach that makes Commandant Lassard from the Police Academy movies look like he's a genius!

Personal tragedy aside, and my condolences, what he should've done was step aside and let Charles Lee coach those games because he clearly wasn't fit for duty. When I was coaching and I had an unexpected death in the family, I stepped aside and gave over those duties to my assistant because I thought about my team first. Sorry about what happened, but he has to go. There's no way this team can move forward with him.

  6. I was stunned to hear about Bud’s brother. This may sound crass, I think he should have at least taken game 4 off, I think the team could have played better without him. Regardless of whether or not they knew beforehand, there were playing under the cloud that was over Bud’s head. If he is not there then the team may have galvanized to “win one for Bud”.

  7. Bud is a great REGULAR season coach but he is bordeline terrible in the postseason. We were all complaining in 2020 that main guys were playing low minutes in the postseason.Look this year.Even with Giannis out (which means khris, jrue, brook have to do more ) , they still played around 35min until game 5.Youre getting cooked by Jimmy Butler in game 4 and you let Jrue 1on1 late in the 4th.No double teams or anything to take the ball out of his hands. If winning a championship doesnt change some simple things , nothing will .

  8. As a bucks and Greece supporter. I really want to see Giannis compete for our national team. I think its a good opportunity for him to improve on his 3pt and FT game. Coach itoudis is a great coach and Giannis can learn from him. As for Bud i think this team need a fresh start on the coach position. I really hope Bucks will take their time with this matter though.

  9. Nick Nurse (or another replacement) isn’t a panacea. The Bucks have an offensive problem. Talent is inconsistent, and that’s not on poor Bud. 🥺Sure Bucks play great defense, but there are no consistent shotmakers (I do not include Giannis here), which means we can’t compete at the same level as other elite teams. It’s a factor that no one wants to face, which is why the mob loves the fire-Bud campaign. Also, most big teams now have a young roster or, at the very least, a young bench that can hit consistent shots. Fix our offense. We patch many holes that Bud’s blamed for though I am not saying he’s been perfect. Also, another non-Bud problem is that there are no PJ Tucker-level dogs to drive intensity. The team starts losing, and they instantly look sluggish and defeated. This league is tough. We need dogs that want it as badly as Giannis or that can infect the team with that hunger when the chips are down. I get the sense that some players on this roster lack Giannis’ desire for greatness. It could be injuries, or some might just be tapped out mentally; I don’t know.

  10. Jrue held us down for the past 2 years so if anyone has to go I think it would be Khris and Bud. The locker room need a a new voice and defense and offensive approach. Khris best year was the Championship year. Jrue was hooping all year and we won the leagues best record because of Jrue. When Khris came back Jrue stood down for Khris to fine his groove (He never found it and on D Khris is washed on rotation). Khris should be on the bench for bench points. What happened to Jevon and Jae, also what happened to Marjon and Green. Those questions make me look at why Bud needs to go. During the season we covered the 3 beautifully and leaned on the young players but when Khris, Joe, wes came back we didn't let the younger guys play at All. So my points are get younger with sprinkling some vets in with youth. I BELIEVE thats the real reason we home. We need younger players to Grow with Giannis and I don't know about Nick as a Coach but we need to figure it out in the next two years or I believe Giannis gone yall 😢😢😢😢. Let's go And RIP to your Brother Coach Bud.

  11. Who Cares?? I am sorry but it’s a hard pill to shallow how we ended our season. I kept saying bring Middleton from the bench. Mix things up. Nope Bud did things his way. Jrue Disappeared. We waisted one of Brook’s best years. There is no way we care about a FIBA game. Giannis should have at least 2 chips by now….come on.

  12. I hope giannis takes about 2 and a 1/2 months off to let his body rest and just do things like swimming light weights. he just needs to rest his body at this stage. In my opinion hopefully we'll have a new head coach By this stage we know buds MO Not a very good playoff coach strategy wise plays the wrong players don't play certain guys for whatever reason. For whatever reason doesn't want to change his defensive philosophy. I think they double jimmy seven times what the whole series make that make sense The 4th quarter' performance of the bucks in game 4# and 5# and in game 6# against the celtics the previous year unacceptable How you can have 2 time outs in your back pocket to end? That game is beyond me..PS All that being said the bucks make their free throws they win the game We must trade khris or jrue We have to get younger and more athletic. Mar-jon showed great promise but for some reason bud refuse to play him the last 3 months of the year. But I'see the sacramento kings playing a rookie in the playoffs

  13. If giannis doesn't take this off season to actually develop his game seriously then it's safe to say this is peak giannis and he will not improve any further

  14. Coach Bud has left this team fundamentally unprepared to play basketball. Every year he is thoroughly out coached, leaving the entire team rudderless. He runs a shooting game (around the world) for an offense. No passing, no player movement, no nothing. Just 5 guys standing still hoping thier defender just falls down for no reason. We're not gonna run into many coaches he can out coach in the post season.

  15. The colosseum blood thirsty crowd is demanding for the head of Bud. In my opinion, bringing another coach is not necessarily the solution but a temporary fix. There are other issues with this team that run deeper than what general public are aware off. Was it a coincidence that Mark Lasrly sold his stake of the Bucks?? Let's be honest folks, Giannis is not extending his contract…

  16. The Bucks are gonna be at most a sixth seed with Nick Nurse or anybody else. Bud is at least great in the regular season. You have no draft capital. No tradeable contracts. And your best perimeter defender is… Wesley Mathews LMAO.

  17. I want to fire bud and hire nick nurse OR promote Charles Lee to head coach if you want to kind of maintain a similar structure but have a new voice. I would honestly love having Charles Lee as coach.

  18. Why is giannis even playing for Greece, rest and learn to shoot FTS and rest his injuries.

  19. Again. Condolences to the Bud family. But when you suffer arguably the biggest first round upset in history. You're not going to get alot of appreciation thrown your way. It is what it is. Especially when the upset was largely due to bad coaching decisions

  20. Once I learned what happened with coach Bud's brother it was clear why the coaching was so lacking. I am even surprised they let a man literaly in post traumatic shock coach the team in a PO game. Apart from being a really bad idea for the outcome it is also very inhuman. What is the price for success in the NBA, makes you wonder…

  21. “Fire Budenholzer & hire Nick Nurse” is the new “replace Brook Lopez with Mo Bamba.” As a fellow Bud defender I appreciate the appreciation. I thought all his potentially fireable offenses came during games 4&5, and I don’t know how someone could be expected to fire on all cylinders given what he was going through. The positives Bud’s brought to Milwaukee far outweigh his lowest moments.

I do however think they need to take a long hard look at upgrading Horst & aim to build the same type of world class front office they have with the training staff. The new owner has deep pockets and the Bucks are limited on what they can spend on players, so open up the checkbook for the top executives in the game.

  22. 1) Bud no adjustments, bad game management, bad substitution decisions and patterns.
    2) Giannis let down everyone with sitting out 2 games. Their is hurt and there is injured. Giannis checked out fine with no injury. A low back/tailbone contusion is pain/discomfort. He was fine enough to sit on the bench on his contusion. But it was not surprising because the Bucks and Giannis take a conservative /casual approach all season…sitting out games. Against the Heat it was arrogance to think it would be ok to sit because the Heat couldn’t beat them.
Also where was Giannis’s focus and intensity for the playoffs. He decides a week before the playoffs..to bring up himself…that he almost retired in 2020?? And his reasons were mental health?? Please feeling pressure to perform and be paid 250million is an insult to people who do really suffer from mental health issues. But fans and some media are it up. But his focus obviously was not being locked in for playoffs. Then to prove it even more…right after they eliminated he gets defensive how season wasn’t a failure. What?? It was mind boggling that he really wanted to get that out…then give reasons. It’s like wow Giannis many fans support all year..for years and years and you reduce it to…it’s not that big of a deal. He did not show the killer competitor that you have to be.
So if it’s hard to understand ..insert Jordan in his place. If you think Giannis has a lot of off court businesses/endorsements/commitments to handle…not even close to what Jordan has. So do you think Jordan would have brought up some out of the blue news like almost retired a week before start of playoffs? Do you think Jordan would have never came back in Game 1 then sit Game 2/3 from back contusion? Before you defend Giannis being so hurt…this is the same team/same player who sits 15-20 games a year. He lost the benefit of the doubt.
Then after losing in 1sr round in biggest upset ever…would Jordan defend the season and argue passionately it wasn’t a failure.
Giannis is killing his legacy and I don’t even think he notices or cares.

  23. I was also a Bud defender (16:43 this is exactly what I'm always saying). At this point though for me, I don't mind if they keep him or replace him. I just want us to have a better offense than just being over reliant on getting hot from 3.

  24. it should not take a year to make changes to your game plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Something else is a miss psychologically with the team. God bless Bud and his family
