Warriors adjustments vs. Lakers, Jokic dominates Suns, Celtics in danger | Hoops Tonight x Nerd Sesh

Jason Timpf is joined by Carson Breber and Logan Camden, from The Volume’s newest podcast, ‘Nerd Sesh,’ to break down the biggest questions ahead in the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Will Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and the Golden State Warriors get revenge in Game 2 against LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Los Angeles Lakers? Later, the trio debates if the Nuggets-Suns series is already over, whether Joel Embiid’s return will help lift the 76ers past the Celtics, and who their current favorite is in Knicks-Heat.

  1. I love this channel so much true and passionate discussions, no legacy talks and toxicity 24/7 like every other media.

  2. AD played 44 minutes. Bron 40. All GS has to do is go small and crank the pace up. Lakers wont be able to keep up.

  3. Carson is so much better than Jason. Jason is a wing nut hugger. Glad Carson put him in his place regarding joker.

  4. Lebron has to shoot. He has to spread the floor no matter what we say about him he has to shoot

  5. Last year warriors had more size. Bjelica, Otto Porter Jr and they both could shoot and play good d. Last year warriors would beat this Lakers

  6. These young guys don't know what they're saying, LeBron has been shooting 3's better and better each year, he just has struggled this year, so saying it's not a good shot at this point of his career is not actually correct

  7. All 3 of you know how to communicate and have a proper conversation… nobody talks over the other…this quality is lacking by most in humanity… great job!

  8. Am I the only one who thinks that if Reaves and Caruso had a baby, it's this Logan guy on this show?

  9. “Jokic post season limitations” was always lunacy! He was one of the best playoff performers ever before this playoffs and is again this year.

Coming into this year he’s AVERAGED the following in the PLAYOFFS

    26
    12
    6
    2 stocks
    52/40/83

He came in going to WCSF in 3 of previous 4 years and now 4/5 including WCF in 2020 beating title favorite Kawhi PG clippers up 3-1!

That’s with last 2 years missing his best teammate Murray and last year MPjr as well!

He also has NEVER played with a teammate who was All NBA, All NBA defense, All Star, or All Rookie which no other MVP all time can say!

Carson knows his ish and gets it. I’ve been going to 40-60 NBA games yearly since 87-88 center court row 9-13 and Jokic is one of the best bigs I’ve ever seen period!

As Carson mentioned Embiid is the one who has shrunk in playoffs (injuries a part of that for sure but his per game stats all go down especially his efficiency).

Jokic has some Duncan Kareem Bill Russell to him in that it’s not sexy at all, they’re all still elite (he’s more like that on offense vs defense obv).

The trophy thing Jason talks about is so dumb. Hakeem Jerry West MJ Eligin Baylor LeBron Oscar Robertson Wilt Shaq Dr J Durant just to name a few were also awesome before they ever won a title and took all of them 7-10 years or didn’t do it all like Elgin Baylor!

Jason knows his basketball, but his weakness is you can tell who he loves or doesn’t like.

Steph Curry & Magic most of their careers were not good either defensively, but they won titles bc their ORGANIZATIONS had great defenders around them via drafting/trades as well as Top3-6 GOAT coaches! Bird was underrated defender actually making 3 all NBA defense and averaged 2spg 1bpg in his prime with solid on ball angles defense.

You can only win TITLES when you have great stuff around you to make TEAM great and cover up for super star weakness.

MJ was God tier his first 6 years but was 24-29 in playoffs (6-18 in games + 0-5 in series Vs Celtics & Pistons who won it all or made finals just like Jokic lost to Lakers title, Suns up 2-0 in finals, and Warriors title the last 2 missing best teammate and both best teammates) never making a finals! That doesn’t mean MJ wasn’t already elite/great just like it doesn’t mean Joker isn’t great!

  10. Klay gotta take his head out of his ass and play better try to help out curry

  11. One more thought about Timpf's (to me) silly argument. Basketball is a team game. Completely. The very way he framed a part of his argument was telling. He talked about Jokic potentially 'going through Durant and then either Steph or LeBron' as a way to prove his greatness in some apparently sacred and sanctified tradition is nonsensical. These match ups are between teams. Curry has rings because he played with hall of fame team mates. LeBron's championships were won with HOF guys. Jokic has never played with a team mate that even came close to making an all star team. This kind of fixation on super stars–as if they play in a vacuum–strikes me as the kind of thing an adolescent casual would believe.

  12. Alright more nerds!! I love these deep dives. Jason’s already my go to after Laker games and just nba in general. Seeing these 2 now, it just adds more content to my sports talk rotation and I’m really happy about that. Thank you guys and keep up the great work!

  13. One last shot at Timpf's faulty thinking. It's clear he's a man with a theory that in the current NBA nobody can win a title w/out elite wings, so no centers need apply. That's not analysis. That's having a pet theory. Let's imagine Jokic (like Durant) playing with Curry, Thompson and Draymond with strong role players. How many games do you think that team would have won in the regular season. I'm guessing 75. I'm also guessing they would have gone 16-1 in the playoffs while cruising to a title. A little flexible thinking that focuses on teams rather than a silly adolescent fixation on individual great players is something I've learned is a better way to evaluate.

  14. The one thing that worries me about the Warriors Lakers series is the way Draymond and Looney get under Anthony Davis when he goes up for a shot. Especially Draymond, when he contests a shot he almost bends backwards with his feet under ad which worries me of Davis getting injured. Here's to good health for every team for the rest of these playoffs!

  15. Professor X be reading the coach adjustments in their minds live on the podcast.

  16. The lakers must find a way to beat that 3-2 zone to score more against the golden state. Lakers had problems scoring against the 3-2 zone.

  17. Denver impressed me as being on a mission to get Joker that real nugget — the chip. Joker’s fate is in his hands whether he faces AD, Embid or great defenses like a Miami, Warriors or Celtics. Beat somebody, and I’m definitely not saying the Joker is less than anybody else. Did he earn those 2 MVP’s — I say arguably big yes. Win it, dogg. Now, all that being said: I would love to see the Joker going against AD in West championship. Fingers crossed.

  18. Please more of these guys. They are not personalities like Colin or SAS or Skip but these guys actually 'analyze' the game. Love them!

  19. 10:20 I don't think this Lakers team is better than the Celtics last year. Did you not see how they got took to 6 games with a shorthanded Grizzlies team?

Also, this current Warriors team is worse than last year. In terms of the roster, they've never found a true replacement for Otto who played huge minutes for them in the playoffs. You can incluxe Bjelica in that too. In terms of chemistry, we all know the vibes have been off since before the season even started.

  20. Jason your surname has at least two too many letters. Condolences, brosef

  21. Max Christie? Anyone? I feel like that's a defensive body for on-ball pressure for 4-5 minutes a night. And he's fearless on 3s!

  22. LFG Celtics. Tatum had a bad game but the bench was amazing. Wow. What a game. Cs looking solid. Blowout of Sixers coming. Heat and Knicks going to beat each other up.

  23. Celtics have an amazing opportunity this season to win the Finals. Bucks out and Sixers not playing their best. This is the Cs finals to lose. I don't see how the West can touch them.

  24. Warriors "can't solve the AD problem." Who the f is this 🤡?? Seriously.
    AD's weakness is his durability.
Go at him on layups rather than avoiding contact.
    Body him up on defense.
Increase the pace and tire him out.
    Etc.

  25. yee my issue w jokic is rim protection. i need to see him handle a team with elite rim pressure in the playoffs b4 id be good choosing him over guys like steph giannis tatum kd ad jimmy

wolves n suns dont get to the rim crazy (esp w ant banged up)

  26. celtics are good enough to win the chip not playing at their best. they have semi-regular off nights and still favorites… they almost did it last yr bc they played one solid playoff series last yr n still got to game 6 of the finals.

those guys are young compared to the age stars typically start winning (27/28)

  27. So Joker is nice but the NBA is rigged so Denver gonna win this yr they making Jokic the new thing remember this post mark 25:13 – 25-18 just listen to this after they win

  28. I hate these stupid Bias takes! You realise you the Volume crew that these 3 guys especially the bearded guy, he talked about the Lakers Warriors series and he went on for 10 fuk minutes, about how the WARRIORS can beat the Lakers!??? Not 1 damn word about how the Lakers can do anything against them? even if they won the first game ! WHY???????? i dont understand why all these media channels are against the Lakers! ??? always making excuses for their opponents when they lose, and trashing them when the Lakers lose a game, when they never were favourites in the first place..???? WHY VOLUME?

  29. Just like you said, Lebron was roaming the perimeter against Wiggins and they barely went to Lebron in the post. Bron didn’t play that well, but They didn’t need him to, which is good. Lebron turns it on now only as a closer in the fourth, very interesting.

Warriors should be worried because they have their hands full with AD, DLo and Reaves, then Bron makes an off ball cut on the weak side and he’s dunking on you. We’ll see tho.

  30. The Warriors do NOT need to solve the AD problem, particularly on offense. Attack him more on defense, esp. in the paint. Play with more force and physicality. It was apparent after watching game 1 that the Dubs are the more talented team. If they match or exceed the Lakers with physicality (without fouling too much), they win in 6.

P.S. I too long for more Steph high pick and rolls. Here is a reality check for all of us: Kerr won't do it unless he has to in the 4th quarter. And guess what? He'll be right.

  31. I think the Warriors are going to wear down these Lakers, asking AD to play 40+ minutes is a lot.
