Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time NCAA National Champion as head coach at the University of South Carolina Dawn Staley, sat down with Ryan, Fred and Channing for a rare and candid conversation touching on everything from her Philadelphia-upbringing to the Gamecocks recent run in March’s NCAA Tournament, to media criticisms, to impact on culture and women’s sports and also reveals her secret obsession.

One of the most decorated female athletes in women’s basketball, Staley took her passion for the sport and applied her point guard abilities to navigating life and helping young women follow their dreams. Often widely criticized for her outspoken approach, Staley is unapologetic in standing up for her players and the integrity of the game which is what makes her such an inspiration and rarity in coaching.

Staley shares how her passion for sports and competition stems from an early age growing up in North Philadelphia and helped set her on a path toward her wildly successful career. Only a few weeks removed from a tough loss in the final four, Staley is finding focus and peace in moving forward and the success her players are having as women off the court and the people they’ve become.

Channing asks how someone so dedicated has time for themselves and he asks her if there is a personal component to life or what she does for fun…and her guilty pleasure may shock you!

  1. Coach Staley is THE truth!! She's an ICON and an example for present and future coaches (of all sports) to learn from. Continued blessings, success and happiness💯🏀 P.S Champ is too cute!!

  2. This was good! I’ve been a fan since gold medal days!!! Black success in America has to be respected but it often not in any field. I sell steel and I guarantee if I was a white man I would make more money and get way more respect!!

  3. I swear black folks don’t know how to Benedict 🤣🤣we’ll close out church 10x before we finally end and I love that for us 😂😂😂.

  4. I really enjoyed this!! I played pickup games with dawn at UVA and had no idea who this girl was playing with the guys!! Emmitt St.Gym!! Now listening and seeing this I am so happy for her and all she helped! Even tho I'm a Tarheel!!

  5. It's time you guys sit down and figure out how to really monitize this product more. This is gold. No way you should have just 600k followers. You should be over 1mil. The mix of you three makes everyone comfortable in your space. GOLD!!

  6. Dawn is still herself. She don't five a damn about fame, from a ego standpoint, and THAT, above all else, makes her special.

  7. You said it Coach! They love you for a little while then realize you're black and even USC "fans" rather see the team fail because of the blackness of the team. You speak on things they don't wanna hear so they turn racism on you. Geno said what he said because it was the last straw for him. He couldn't lose to the black team AGAIN! Love this team and will miss the Freshies. Can't wait to see the squad coming

  8. LOVE the interviews of those I don't know much about. Those who come on this show really get to talk and tell their stories. Still waiting on My Pinnacle Laila Ali.

  9. Love Coach Staley, but she spent too much time blaming and talking about the officials. She's won 2 National Championships, and I bet she feels the officials did ok in those games. Complaining about the officials is a no gain proposition and a moot point. I guarantee you there are coaches from other schools and conferences that feel like when they play South Carolina or schools in the Power 5, they don't get the calls, especially in the NCAA tournament.

  10. I'M 56 AND A SPORTS FAN. PLEASE!! THE ICONIC WITH HANDLES DAWN STALEY. YOU KNOW I KNOW HER CATALOG. 😆😆😆😆!!!!

  11. She's absolutely right. Everybody who ignored the officiating in the semis with SC/Iowa all of a sudden were crying about the refs in the championship game. It's hypocritical. Great interview. 👍🏾

  12. She might have been speaking about Eric Bienemy. Has been one of the best offensive mindsets in the game, and still gets overlooked after he interviews. His resume and play calling skills should be enough to land him a job.

  13. Great RAW interview she definitely is setting the bar for coaching, mentoring and leading women's basketball and our youth!

  14. Great player now great coach who gets the best out her players love her passion for the game legendary

  15. Love her even more! She is authentic. When I think of ballers, she is definitely on my list.

  16. Anyone with a brain can look at the demographics of the players on the highest levels of pro basketball & football and see who the coaches & 'decision makers' are and know what it is. Those people will never give or share power..it must be taken somehow. It will take a group of well coordinated, incredibly smart & shrewd black coaches, business people, civic leaders and college administrators to change the power dynamics in the sports industry /business.

  17. God doesn't give out gifts and talents according to one's zip code. Dawn Staley has blessed us by using her gifts. I am so very proud of her! The media in Philadelphia should give her more coverage.

  18. This was great for me. Build your people up. I have lived with she thinks she is this or that. I say, "If not me, who will?"

  19. I ADMIRE HER!!! I have watcher her ball since her college day….continue success to you and your team Coach Staley!

  20. It is unfortunate that everything has to be looked at through the prism of racism.
