Small ball has a give and take. On the one hand, JaMychal Green means one more three point shooter, which spreads the floor. On the other hand, he shot .378 from three this season and he shot .500 last night. He's not the interior defender or rebounder that Looney is. The difference is this:
In the playoff history of the Curry/Thompson Golden State Warriors, they had made 20 threes in a game 5 times going into this matchup. They were 4-1 in those games. They've done it twice in two games in this series. In game one they shot .396 from three. In game two they shot .500 from three. The Warriors, as a team, shot .385 from three this season. Lakers opponents shot .344 from three this season. Also, in game one the Lakers shot 25 threes and in game two they shot 34 threes. In game one the Lakers shot 29 free throws and in game two they shot 17 free throws.
And I don't like doubling Stephen Curry. Whether the idea is that he'll turn the ball over or you don't want him penetrating or shooting, you're making the game easier for them. The Warriors have 4 players who shoot over .380 from three. If the Lakers stick to their identity, what they do well offensively, and stop giving Curry the obvious play, I believe the law of averages will play out and they'll win the series.
