The road to the finals from the East went through LeBron from '07 to '18. It was either LeBron that went to the finals or the team that beat him. And no one knew that better than the Raptors. So I understand them feeling that it was their time once LeBron left the conference.
But Kawhi had one of the greatest post season runs of all time that year. He played at a level that DeMar never has and likely never will. And Toronto weren't the only team that looked to capitalize on LeBron leaving the conference. That was the year Jimmy was with the Sixers and they had a starting five of Jimmy, Simmons, JJ Redick, Tobias Harris and Embiid. Giannis won his first MVP that year. Celtics were coming off a year where they took LeBron 7 games without Kyrie.
Not only did Kawhi have to outplay Giannis, Embiid, Jimmy and Steph, coach Nurse was the first to build the "Giannis wall" and stop him while Kawhi was guarding him. He was the one to contain Steph with the box and 1 and triangle and 2 defence.
