From the tape it looks like they are way way too focused on Butler and treating him like literally Michael Jordan. When the team we are actually playing has some of the best off-ball and on ball screen action sets in the league.

This is playing straight into their advantage and getting guys completely out of shape. Late close outs are the easiest situations to attack, we’re handing them out on a plate.

they are doubling a lot for seemingly no reason. because their doubles arent even effective. no ones really even getting beat off drives straight up 1:1

Literally only should double if Jimmy is dominating which he hasnt.

Were also trying to trap too much and it’s having a similar eeffect bc the heat guards dont turn the ball over under pressure like Garland did

Jesus. The worst of it is Randle’s low effort to get back on D several possessions. The Obi attempted double of Butler towards the end made me giggle…. bro just puts his arms up like 10 feet away from Jimmy like that was gonna do something 😆

Low effort Randle and knicks in general not sprinting back to get into position is what stands out. Absolutely disgusting effort

I had to stop watching it halfway. This team puts itself in precarious positions – with an inability to block out on shot attempts, having to scramble to shooters, and being late on close outs – because you’ve got a help defender keeping their eye on the ball handler for a moment too long and then losing their primary defensive assignment. You’re having guys show help (seemingly) for the sake of showing help and leaving shooters open one pass away. I’m seeing RJ Barrett get switched onto Bam Adebayo multiple possessions which puts the Heat in a better position to crash the offensive glass on three point shot attempts.

There’s been more than a handful of instances where we gambled like this during the season but teams were either not disciplined enough to move the ball like Miami or they didn’t hit open shots, but alas, the crows have come home to roost.

Not related to the original topic, but offensively, we’re not capable of taking advantage of mismatches. Brunson’s trying to get himself back into rhythm but struggles with Miami swarming the paint, we don’t have the shooting to make them have to adjust their defense, and even if you have a situation with Randle being guarded by Cody Martin, we’re not looking to really do anything with that.
