Time to trade the $60 million man.
No way we trade Dame.
Dame chose the Supermax contract on a mediocre team with an ownership that let his WCF team mates walk away, over a Max contract on a contending team. It had nothing to do with loyalty. The ownership, right or wrong, already chose not to build around Dame in 2019. The contention ship has already sailed and its time to trade Dame at his highest value.
There would have to be a three or four-way trade involving a contender and two or three projected deep lottery teams; perhaps, Dame to Milwaukee for Portis, filler and unprotected FRPs from Charlotte, San Antonio and/or Utah. What would Trader Bob do?
If Harden returns to Houston, sending Dame and Grant there for Jalen Green and Jabari Smith and their lottery pick this year…
I do think that given Dame's own statement at the end of the season, I think it is time to trade him. He doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild. He loves Portland, will always be a part of the city and his Hall of Fame plaque will have him in a Blazers uniform.
So it isn't a matter of doing right by him other than being honest with him about the process.
Now… because of the price tag…his contract will be a tough one to move.
But, there are a couple of teams that could match up on a trade. Like Atlanta. If the rumors are true and they want to move on from Trae Young, and we all know they have been wanting to trade their 4 for awhile now, the salaries could match up. So…
You get Young, Sharpe, Simmons to anchor the backcourt and you have a solid 4 and a draft pick that can be used for either a C or SF.
That allows for a rebuild, but one where you still are good enough to remain competitive as well.
it’s the smart decision, i don’t think we have enough ammo to trade to make a championship roster, if we trade dame and assuming we get young players and picks, our young core could win it all in the next few years
If you trade Dame then Jerami Grant will not be resigned. Trading him to Orlando would give you two lottery picks. Trading him to Indiana will not three picks.
